So many questions…!

There is a big difference between web development and web design. “Design” is simpler and creates static webpages with images or blog posts, etc. “Developer” is more complex and involves accessing data on a server and/or allowing people to securely login to websites with username / password information. Most large companies need developers, not designers and developers usually get paid more. Developers make web applications, designers make webpages.

If you want to do web development, you need to choose one of two main directions: php or Php is a “free” language, meaning you can download several programs that allow you to make php web applications for free. is a Microsoft product, so you have to buy Visual Studio to program in it. Visual Studio isn’t cheap. It’s tough to say which language is best… large industrial-sized companies lean towards because they trust Microsoft products and are wary of “free” things like php. They probably also use SQL Server (a database language) to house their data and SQL Server integrates best with Smaller companies may trend towards php because it is free and integrates easily with MySQL, which is also free. There is a “free” version of Visual Studio called “Visual Studio Express,” but it has some limitations and big differences compared to the paid version, and most large companies use the full paid version. “Express” might be OK to start learning on, though and it IS free…

If you want to go the “big” business route, you should start by getting Visual Studio and trying some FREE online resources to make sure this is what you want to do with your life:

Don’t pay for a course (they’re usually not cheap) until you’re sure you want to learn “Microsoft Certified” doesn’t really mean anything except that you pay more and get a pretty certificate when you complete the course. Some businesses will like that you took Microsoft Certified courses, but you won’t be “certified” by MS in until you take many, MANY courses AND pass their certification tests (also not cheap!). Overall, a programmer with good examples of their work and non-MS certified courses under their belt could easily do better in the job market than someone who took MS certified courses but sucks at programming. is also further divided into Visual Basic and C#. Visual Basic is a more “conversational” language and therefor a little easier to learn. C# is supposed to be more powerful, but for web development, you won’t notice much difference between the two. And just so you don’t sound silly doing all this stuff, C# is pronounced see-sharp and SQL is generally pronounced see-quell.

To be a well-rounded web developer, you’ll need, SQL Server, CSS, HTML, XML, JavaScript and AJAX. You can learn everything you need to know about CSS, HTML and JavaScript for free with various online tutorials. IIS is used on web servers to host or “serve” web applications, and you probably won’t need to know too much about it – there will usually be someone else at most large companies who actually does server management for the programmers. And don’t confuse with “classic” asp, which is not the same. Plain ol’ classic asp is on the way out and nowadays most classic asp jobs involve converting asp applications to

Flash and Photoshop aren’t that important to developers at most large companies. Designers who specialize in those will be brought-in to handle that stuff. VSS is a program that works with Visual Studio to maintain code and do subversions, or “back-ups” of the source code (a big “undo” button). .Net Nuke is a bunch of pre-made .net components, and isn’t used by most large companies. Dreamweaver is a joke to most web developers because it sucks at making server/database connections, the code it creates is garbled and too long and it’s really only good for making “pretty” webpages for blogs, etc.

Try to get as much free help as you can to start and only pay for courses once you know for sure this is your direction in life. That’s a lot of info, but this is not easy stuff, so good luck!

Yes of course. With web advertising and designing there is no IT field. May be i’l say that these two are the back bone for current IT trend.

Web design is the skill of creating presentations of content (usually hypertext or hypermedia) that is delivered to an end-user through the World Wide Web, by way of a Web browser or other Web-enabled software like Internet television clients, microblogging clients and RSS readers.

The intent of web design,is to create a web site—a collection of electronic files that reside on a web server/servers and present content and interactive features/interfaces to the end user in form of Web pages once requested. Such elements as text, bit-mapped images (GIFs, JPEGs), forms can be placed on the page using HTML/XHTML/XML tags. Displaying more complex media (vector graphics, animations, videos, sounds) requires plug-ins such as Flash, QuickTime, Java run-time environment, etc. Plug-ins are also embedded into web page by using HTML/XHTML tags.

Improvements in browsers’ compliance with W3C standards prompted a widespread acceptance and usage of XHTML/XML in conjunction with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to position and manipulate web page elements and objects. Latest standards and proposals aim at leading to browsers’ ability to deliver a wide variety of media and accessibility options to the client possibly without employing plug-ins.

Typically web pages are classified as static or dynamic.

Static pages don’t change content and layout with every request unless a human (web master/programmer) manually updates the page.

Dynamic pages adapt their content and/or appearance depending on end-user’s input/interaction or changes in the computing environment (user, time, database modifications, etc.) Content can be changed on the client side (end-user’s computer) by using client-side scripting languages (JavaScript, JScript, Actionscript, etc.) to alter DOM elements (DHTML). Dynamic content is often compiled on the server utilizing server-side scripting languages (Perl, PHP, ASP, JSP, ColdFusion, etc.). Both approaches are usually used in complex applications.

With growing specialization in the information technology field there is a strong tendency to draw a clear line between web design and web development.

Web design is a kind of graphic design intended for development and styling of objects of the Internet’s information environment to provide them with high-end consumer features and aesthetic qualities. The offered definition separates web design from web programming, emphasizing the functional features of a web site, as well as positioning web design as a kind of graphic design.[2]

The process of designing web pages, web sites, web applications or multimedia for the Web may utilize multiple disciplines, such as animation, authoring, communication design, corporate identity, graphic design, human-computer interaction, information architecture, interaction design, marketing, photography, search engine optimization and typography.

* Markup languages (such as HTML, XHTML and XML)
* Style sheet languages (such as CSS and XSL)
* Client-side scripting (such as JavaScript)
* Server-side scripting (such as PHP and ASP)
* Database technologies (such as MySQL and PostgreSQL)
* Multimedia technologies (such as Flash and Silverlight)

Web pages and web sites can be static pages, or can be programmed to be dynamic pages that automatically adapt content or visual appearance depending on a variety of factors, such as input from the end-user, input from the Webmaster or changes in the computing environment (such as the site’s associated database having been modified).

With growing specialization within communication design and information technology fields, there is a strong tendency to draw a clear line between web design specifically for web pages and web development for the overall logistics of all web-based services.

You are a web designer and you are looking for web design for mobile phones as you said there are jobs for web developers for mobile phones.

First of all check with yourself that you are good with standard website design (for desktops, PCs); if you are good then you move to mobile web design. W3C has set of web design standards for mobile websites and you need to adhere to those. Some useful links I found are:

A Roundup of 15 Mobile Web Design Tutorials

Also, you can search in Google “mobile website design tutorial” and you can find good links to resources on the web.

Here is a list of good web design schools which is a good start for you

When you enroll in a web design program, you will learn about graphics, multimedia applications and web design. The three main aspects of web development are content, programming and design. Depending on your field of focus, you can learn computer languages like HTML, SQL and PHP. You may also choose to learn how to use software such as Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Another growing trend worthy of study is web video technology. Video is now a major part of almost all leading websites.

Due to the rate of change and innovation in the field of technology, it’s not realistic to think you can learn it all. A good web design program however will provide you a solid foundation you can build upon when learning new skills long after you have received your degree. Web design is a very dynamic field and the learning process will continue as long as you are active in the profession.

Search Engine Optimization
A search engine is a service provided by some company (Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, etc.) which will search through millions of web pages for keywords that a person types into a field. For instance, if I type “Puppy” into a search box on Google’s web site, there are currently 40,800,000 matches available. If the search provider has a good search algorithm in their software, then the most relevant pages should be listed first. In my case, I’m a happy searcher, because after the Google Image samples, the first result listed is the Puppy Linux website, which is the only Puppy I would ever be searching for online. Most search providers keep track of what websites people will actually visit after doing a search. They then use the results to make sure those pages are closer to the top of the list for the next time someone searches for the same keyword(s).

Image search optimization is about using images on your website to draw more “click-throughs” from the search provider, thereby raising your rank in the search list. This, in turn, helps to ensure that you keep getting more visits to your site. A neat article I just found by typing “image search optimization” into Google Search is linked below.
