Excessive Bandwidth

The internet has become the one stop shop for people around the world looking to communicate with others, educate and entertain themselves as well as purchase their daily necessities. The problem arises when we realize there is steep competition for our sites no matter what purpose they hold. This article will tell you how you can make your site more appealing to the masses and hopefully place your page at the top of the list in your chosen niche. Continue reading to learn more and generate the web site traffic and ranking you long for and deserve.

Animated Graphics

First, you need to learn who your audience is and cater your content to them as well as base your SEO on their needs via way of specific keywords. You simply cannot base your site around an entire topic like weight loss as the competition is numerous and you will be a small fish in a large pond. You have to define your site and narrow down the audience you seek to a specific niche. You do this by using tools like AdWords to narrow down your keywords to fit a specific audience with the least amount of competition and the largest amount of keyword searches. These tools will define your site and allow you to generate the audience you are seeking to reach.

One of the biggest issues with designing websites is that the pages often become sloppy in appearance and difficult to navigate through. Use high quality content but maintain a simple layout with a navigational panel that is easy to see and access. Horizontal bars are not a good sign when you design your page. It means you have way to much on the site, too many dead areas or entirely too much content. People do not want to scroll up and down as well as left to right to view a page. Make sure the page you design fits all screen resolutions with only the need to scroll vertically.

Dead Areas

Try to remember that adding audio and flashing or animated graphics to your site uses excessive bandwidth and causes the site to load slowly. This is a huge turn off to visitors and will actually harm traffic to your site. We often fail to consider what the visitor is having to go through when loading a page and adding items like these to your site only leads to disappointment and people who are too impatient to wait for it to load completely before they can navigate to the section of the site they came to visit.

Designing Websites

Always test drive your site on multiple platforms before going live to ensure that visitors will not have any issues when they access your page. This means you need to check out the site on different browsers, operating systems and portable devices ensuring that you are not losing a portion of your niche due to incompatibility issues.

Excessive

Following these suggestions will allow your efforts to not only be accessible to a larger audience but also make it more appealing and user friendly. We simply want visitors to enjoy what they see with the least amount of issues as possible and in return we reap the rewards of an effective web site design.

Here are highly recommended dot com places to promote website free on websites with good traffic (google it and choose the appropriate category to submit your advertisement):-
      Biggest Classifieds,
      Best Online Classifieds,
      Largest Classifieds,
      Free Classifieds Directory,
      Free Community Classifieds,

You should also conduct a search and look out for Huge List of Free Classified Websites or Sites Like Craigslist,
etc. They are easily available in the search engine.

Search engines would pick up your website when your website links are placed in those good site traffic websites as mentioned.

A reminder: Search engines want websites to have natural links built slowly over time.
This means, do not spam with exact duplicates.

The web links that have good site traffic are in the source as per your question and needs.

1.Offer free, original, and quality content on your site. This is the most effective means for increasing traffic to a website; offering people something that they cannot obtain elsewhere, or at least, not to the level of quality that you are offering it. Ways in which to ensure that your content is of higher quality than competitors or is unique include:
Creating content that is helpful and useful. Simply cobbling together information from another website will not generate traffic. You need to offer visitors the information they need to achieve a goal, solve a problem, be entertained, find out quality news or have a good laugh.
Keep it fresh. For repeat visits, it is crucial to provide regular updates to the website, especially in frequently viewed zones. Add fresh content every few days if possible; at a minimum, weekly.
Outsource article writing. If you hate the thought of generating content yourself, or your team is not writing-savvy, consider outsourcing this end of the task. Depending on the length, content, specialization and quality required, prices can start as low as US$5 per article. However, don’t neglect attempting to write your own work – who better than you knows your own business, hobby or club and can express precisely what needs to be said? Just sit down and start writing an article. You may be impressed when you’re done!
Add video to your landing pages (VLP – Video Landing Page) that is informative and relevant to your site. Respected studies show that good video can improve conversions and page ranking more than most any other item you can add to your pages.
Use landing pages for fast fulfillment of your PPC advertisement.
2.Trying to get more backlinks on your website this may help to increase the traffic.
Get a proofreader. Poor spelling and grammar reflect badly on the services and information being provided; avoid unwarranted negative judgments by getting the writing in order prior to publication online.
Avoid content generators. While these were once the delight of a fledgling web industry, they are no longer useful. Putting your own team’s creativity online is what is useful.
Never copy and paste from another website – Google, Yahoo, MSN and other search engines are too smart for this nowadays and will detect copied and unoriginal content, sending you to the bottom of the pile.
3.Improve your search engine ranking by focusing your content on keywords related to your topic. This is called search engine optimization and will help people find your website when they’re searching the Web. Make sure the keywords flow naturally with the text and when you are brainstorming for good words, ask around for words that come naturally to people of all ages when looking for your type of site. To help you understand better, realize that the keywords not only go into headings and page names but also into “meta tags”. “Meta tags” are the software code that website visitors do not see but search engines do. Finally, don’t overdo the keywords; over-stuffing keywords will result in a very low search ranking for your website. Also, be very careful not to place key text inside graphics; search engines cannot pick up graphics.

How Much Money Can We Demand For Advertising A Banner In Our Web Site? Well, If our web site will be successful as we think it will, we don’t know how much money to demand for advertising, especially for banners.

How much it cost to advertise a banner in Y!A or in yahoo?
How we can know we are not asking too much or the price is too low or too high?

    View Comment
    1. Reply

If you haven’t even started your website, you can’t even compare your rates with that of established websites such as Yahoo. The difference is so wide that it’s almost night and day.

Big sites can command rates that are $50 per CPM (cost per impressions), while some I see even goes for $150 CPM (meaning you pay $150 for every 1,000 visitors that see the banner ads). That means that if you buy 100,000 impressions, you will have to pay the site $15,000!

Small sites with no brand name, little to no traffic would be pleased to get rates of $0.15 CPM to $1 CPM. I even see some offering rates as low as $0.05 CPM – which is like scrapping the barrel.

Note that advertisers are looking for:

      1. Number of pageviews and unique visitors
      2. Who are your traffic and whether your traffic is who they are looking for.
      3. How are you measuring the effectiveness of their campaign – do you have a real time statistics that can show them whether their campaigns are being seen and getting clicks
      4. How comparable/realistic are your rates compared to similar websites

More than the traffic numbers, #2 or who your audiences are is the key to attracting advertisers. That is what you need to focus on and think of how to get that information. You can run a survey on your site that will allow you to learn who your core audiences are.

In my website which is an information site targeting small and home based entrepreneurs, advertisers often ask us what percentage of our visitors are just thinking of starting a business and what percentage are already running their business. This information cannot be given by any website traffic statistics software. You have to do surveys.

Prepare a media kit containing information about your audience, your advertising packages, rates, and arguments why it is best to advertise on your website

Learning Web DESIGN ,is There Any Importance Knowing All Codes And Did All Web Designer Imput Off Head? I am learning web site design online, now I wanted to ask if one will have to cram or know those code off head. Or better still when I open a browser and view the source of the page I saw many codes , I wanted to ask if these are all the codes to be imput before one can Develop a website ?

Mostly, yes (otherwise, you spend more time returning to your books than writing the code!)
Viewing the “source” of a site will ONLY show you HTML and some javascript: that is only 1/100 of the REAL coding
If you only know HTML and javascript, you know nothing and cannot develop any kind of “reasonnable” website: there is much, much, much more to it than that…
To be a good developer, you need to learn a lot, and that can’t be done in a few days…
      Sorry!

Web-Design is a term used in reference to the design, build, and testing of a website. That means anything from simple html and graphics to a full e-commerce website like verizon.com, or even sites like google and wikipedia.

      It usually involves several steps:
      1. Site Plan
      – a detailed workout of each page, what it does, and how they all link together.
      2. Graphic Design
      – apearance and layout of the site
      3. Data-Design
      – design and build of the data-structures, usually complex databases like SQL.
      4. Programming.
      – building the behind the scenes code (usually ASP, or Perl, or some such.)
      5. Testing
      6. Go Live and fix the bugs.

Getting into a job doing the layout and graphic design will require a good knowledge of Graphic Design, HTML, and CSS. will probably start at around 26k – 32k a year.

Doing the programming requires either a Bachelors in CS, and some experience, OR alot of experience in web-coding. WIll usually pay between 36k – 50k a year depending on how good you are. (that means fast, effiecient, bug-free coding)

Doing the Data-Design requires some classes and at least a certification as a DBA (data-base administrator), with some schooling and experience under you belt, you can make as much as 60 -80k.

In the end, all lof these jobs have to be able to work iwth and understand each of the others, so knowledge and experience with all aspects of web-design will make you more useful and valuable.

“If you build it, they will come” is not necessarily true on the Web. Putting a website up is one thing, but getting visitors to come to your site is another. The process becomes even more difficult if you have limited resources to market your business.

Here are some shoestring marketing ideas that can help you get the visitors you need at the least cost possible:

      1. Create the best content you can with the best products you can possibly offer. Your content is your best advertisement – if visitors love your content, then they will go back and spread the word to others.

      2. Make it easy for users to recommend your site. Viral marketing is very important — and easy to tap on the Web. But give your users the tools. Get a Recommend this Site script from websites such as cgiscripts.com and similar directories of scripts. Some even go as far as giving incentives to those who recommend the site to their friends. If only 10 people go to your site, but these 10 people invite 10 more – that’s additional traffic that you get for FREE!

      Recommend Site Scripts (various) http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
Big Nose Bird Recommend this Site http://bignosebird.com/carchive/birdcast.shtml
      CGI Resource Index http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Website_Promotion/Recommend_Site/
      Hostscripts http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Site_Recommendation/index.html

      3. Rank well in the search engines (organic search results, not the pay per click). SEs can be a big source of traffic. The key is to create the best content in your niche. If you have good content, other websites will gladly link to you and offer your site as a resource to their audience. Check the on-page factors and be sure to get linked from authority sites in your topic area.

If you are going to read only one piece on search engine optimization, I suggest you read Brett Tabke of WebmasterWorld.com’s “Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone: 26 steps to 15k a day.” http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/2010.htm

      4. Send out press releases. While outfits charge as much as $650 per release, there are free press release submission places on the Web. Press releases allow you to (a) attract media attention; (b) get more back links to your website without sending each website an email request; and (c) get more visibility especially if your press release gets in Google News or Yahoo News.

      5. Submit articles. Write articles and submit them to websites accepting author submissions. You get exposure for your business; establishes you as an authority in your field, and allows you to get backlinks for your website. If 50 websites publish your article and it contains a link back to your website, then you easily get 50 links from a single article. The more links you have, the greater your chances for increasing your search engine rankings.

Here is a comprehensive list of where to submit your articles http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=AhzreGmnCUicOoyedqypscUjzKIX?qid=1006022407481

      6. Improve your conversion. Getting visitors is one thing; getting them to buy your products is a whole different story. Read the article “10 Ways to Convert Visitors to Buyers” http://www.powerhomebiz.com/072005/conversion.htm for tips on how to improve your conversion rates.

      7. Post a link to your site for free where it is allowed (always read the Terms of Use). Examples are:

      Craigslist http://www.craigslist.com
      Google Base http://base.google.com
      Classifieds for Free http://www.classifiedsforfree.com/

      Recycler.com http://www.recycler.com/
      Yahoo Classifieds http://classifieds.yahoo.com/
      US Free Ads http://www.usfreeads.com/

      8. Use pay per click advertising such as Google Adwords http://www.google.com/adwords or Yahoo Search Marketing http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com . The key is to keep a close eye on the ROI of the various keywords you use

Here are a few generic design guides and tutorials aimed at teaching you how to lay pages out and how to optimise the page for the users best usage and enjoyment. Basically If you go to a site which claims to teach web design and the first page you see leaves you feeling lost or sick then it’s best to go no further ?

      http://www.bedfordstmartins.com/markel_tutorial/
      http://www.webreference.com/authoring/design/tutorials.html
      http://www.entheosweb.com/website_design/default.asp

This one hasn’t been mentioned yet and is a cracking site that gives you a lot more than HTML should you be wanting to add more to your site and make it more dynamic, each different language is seperate and easy to identify so you won’t be overloaded by confusing terms if all you want is HTML

      http://www.devguru.com/

this next site supplies a n excelent set of tutorials for all the different aspects of HTML

      http://www.htmlcodetutorial.com/

And lastly a few links to some goodies and extras relating to HTML

      http://www.htmlgoodies.com/
      http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
      http://bignosebird.com/html.shtml
      http://www.tips-tricks.com/
      http://www.web-source.net/html_tips.htm
      http://www.allgraphicdesign.com/swish.html

Finally you mention that you want this site to be private. By this do you mean that it contains information that you don’t want to share with anyone else on the web unless you give them access? If so then you will need to have some form of login and password protection, to achieve this you would need to use a wed design languange like .NET or JSP to do it properly, and that will take a lot more learning, and you will also need to find a host site that supports this.

Better for you might be to search for a personal web space provider that supplies templates and photo sharing facilities that you you can customise the look and feel of, but only share with friends and family.

If you have a knack for it and are willing to work hard you can come up to speed with PHP fairly quickly. There are numerous templates and classes availible that make even something as complex as a dating site bearable.

For now, I would suggest patching problems on the current site and evaluating what you want to do.

Some considerations. Hosting on LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL and PHP) is going to give you more power, fewer security problems, and better performance. The user base of support cannot be beaten. There are so many good PHP programers out there that you can almost always find help with a problem in a very short time. MySQL runs some of the busiest websites in the world including Slashdot which is also hosted on Linux using Apache. The term to be slashdotted is a term to mean swamped by sudden traffic and that is a testiment to the huge amount of traffic that LAMP can handle.

Most importantly is it’s free. So that makes your endeavor more profitable. So I strong recomend moving to LAMP if you are not using it. However build it and test it BEFORE you move. You want to preserve continuety, especially with a site like a dating site.

There are many ways a dating site will fail or suceed. Primarily you want to get people talking to people. The more this happens the better your service will be viewed. You also want to able create filters to prevent people from wasting too much time with people they KNOW they don’t want to meet. Weight being a huge one. Smoking, drinking, religion, ethnicity, height and age are big filters that you should support. If a person hates smoking so much that they will not date a smoker, why even have them show up in smoker’s searchs? Contact from smokers are unwelcome contact for these people. So you want to set things up where they do not normally contact each other but have the capability to do so if they are a friend of a friend kind of thing.

Then you have powerfull things that you can create to encourage meeting. Remember your site will be judged on the quanity and quality of the people that it’s members meet. If there are too few contacts people lose interest. If the people who they are meeting are completely wrong they will try somewhere else. I have quite a few ideas on this topic and would be happy to explain in detail.

As for taking over being webmaster, that is probably a bad idea initially. You can find free or inexpensive help. You can learn from them, but marketing is probably going to eat up all your time. Depending on your server costs this can be a substantial figure and you don’t want it eating up your financial resources. There are some ways to market for dirt cheap. They are time consuming however. Something that if you really want this to succeed you need to. Put the effort in and stick with it for a time and you can easily climb to the top of the hill. So many dating sites today are fly by nights or so wrapped up in past success that they throttle thier own future success. I am talking from experience. I met my ex-fiance on a dating site. One that I cannot even log into anymore because it doesn’t support my browser/OS. I was a paid member there for six months about 5 years ago. Most of the other sites I tried around that time no longer exist.

Please do contact me. I think I can be of help with this endeavor in many ways.

Absolutely, that’s exactly how I do ASP.NET sites: Get the design together in DreamWeaver, do the code in VS.

If you are going to use master pages / themes, there will be some reconstruction of the proper files between the two programs, but it works fine.

Web Site That Gives Traffic Volumes? I am seeking a web site that gives traffic volumes for specific roads & cities, at various times of the day. Google Maps shows ‘real’ time but I want to know what traffic volumes are at 8 AM and 4 PM during the week on specific roads in Suwanee GA. Thanks.

To see what traffic is like around Suwanee at 8 AM and 4 PM, you should check out the mapquest.com page and click on “traffic” at the top right of the webpage to see what conditions are like at those times.

If you have an iPhone, INRIX (a leading traffic data company) makes it traffic data available for free on major roads throughout the country - more details at the 2nd link below.

      Good luck and safe travels!

I don’t know how much competition you have in Ohio, but here are some tips.

First improve your keyword meta-tags on your site. Your description is short and can be improved as well. Titles are key as well. You need to put more keywords that are relevant, but take away from what you have now as well. You can go to this website to analyze your meta tags to make sure they are in range and what the relevancy to your page content is. And use this analyzer to make sure you don’t use to many word.

      http://www.submitexpress.com/analyzer/

Submit to search engines once a month and build back links from directories and other sites. That is how you get ranking. It’s not easy in our industry because our competition knows this stuff, so study up if you are going to rely on the internet.

The best way while you wait for your site to get ranking is by hitting the pavement and networking. Bring them to you in person, get referrals, and do good work.

I could re-write your tags for you and get them good for you, but I can’t do it for free my friend. Although this advice is for free and I hope you the best in your endeavors.

Plus it is better you learn yourself. It worked for me! ?

I recommend you to hire independent contractors rather than looking for a company to create you some cool looking sites. It is a smart way to save cost especially for a start up. All you need to do is look for the right person that fits for the job. Here's a list https://www.staff.com/skill/web+design of talented web designers and https://www.staff.com/skill/web+development awesome web developers you could screen and see who has the skills and experience for the job.

Which ISPs DO NOT Have Excessive Bandwidth Usage Policies? I want an ISP that will allow me to use an unlimited amount of bandwidth. Or, one that will at least let me use more than 250GB which is what I have with Comcast.

I want to give up cable TV and use internet streaming sites (like Hulu) and Netflix streaming to my TV. Last month (before we even turned on Netflix streaming) we used 239GB in a month. So we need a higher limit than 250GB. I tried asking Qwest and I COULD NOT get a straight answer form them. Any other ideas?

I know not all cable providers are available in all areas, but I figured I’d at least ask. I’m in Utah if that helps.
Yeah well I’m not trying to pay less for more. I want to know where I can go to pay more to get more. I am probably looking in the wrong spot on Comcast’s website but I can’t find ANYTHING that mentions the bandwidth limitations for the business plans etc.

You can buy as much bandwidth from any provider as you like – the 250GB/month is just the limit on the package you’re paying for. Call Comcast and ask how much a 1TB/month package is. (You might have to speak to someone above a sales droid.) A provider will sell you as much bandwidth – within or without reason – as you’re willing to pay for. Need 10 million petabytes per month? You pay for it, they’ll provide it. (That much would cost you the total annual budget of some small nations, but they won’t refuse to take your money.) I’m with a provider that doesn’t limit usage (but will warn you if you use what they consider to be too much), but I have a paid-for limit of 25TB/month at this location (in the upload direction, since this is a server farm). That means that I have my own fiber from here to the backbone. I paid for it, I got it.

Unlimited for the amount you’re paying now? Of course not. Why should I pay the same for 1 gallon of gas that you pay for 10 gallons? The more you use the more it’s going to cost you.

Web Design Classes?? My school just came out with a new class that is called web design… is that where you learn and make your own website???? cause it seems like an ineresting class…

Web Design is a very general term. There are many aspects involved in designing web sites, and I suggest researching what your school is offering.

For example, some of the most common types of code used to create websites are HTML, XHTML, ASP, PHP, JavaScript, Flash, XML, and ColdFusion. Now, don’t let that deter you from wanting to learn. Not every web designer knows all of these languages, and it isnt necessary either.

Each type of language has its own method’s for doing things. HTML is the most basic. You can use this alone to create a website. However, advanced features (pull down menus, forms, etc.) require knowledge beyond basic HTML. Does your school offer this in this class?

Secondly, web design also requires graphics. There are places you can go and pay someone to make them for you, or you can learn them yourself. Granted, they are not a necessity, but make web-pages more aesthetically pleasing.

How Can I Get Traffic To My Web Site Besides Trying To Rank Higher On Google?

    View Comment
    1. Reply

Getting traffic is a combination of a lot of things. The key to success is to create great content that visitors want to use, search engines will love and other websites will naturally link to. Of course, it’s easier said than done.

You can use pay per click advertising in the search engines to reach audiences looking for your products. You can use Google Adwords http://www.google.com/adwords or Yahoo http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com

      6. Post a link to your site for free where it is allowed (always read the Terms of Use). Examples are:

      Craigslist http://www.craigslist.com
      Google Base http://base.google.com

You probably need a basic content management system or cms. These allow you to log in and update pages yourself. However you will need hosting on a server and if you want to promote a professional image i would recommend using a web design company. Feel free to check out our hosting and design services.
