What Is The Most User-friendly, Easiest Software To Use To Create My Own Web Site? I want to create a Web site that chronicles my life…but not a blog. I’d use words, lots of photos, documents, etc. I’m looking for either a Web hosting company that has very easy software to build a site or purchasable software that I can use and then load onto an existing hosting firm. I have no Web site design or HTML experience. This isn’t for day-to-day postings but a general document (hence, not a blog) I also want to ensure that the Web site can stay up indefinitely and not go down because the hosting company is sold or goes out of business. What is my best option?

What Is The Best Web Site Design Program? I currently use Microsoft Frontpage but you can only make boxy web sites with it, no curves or rounded corners to the boxes. Thanks for the input.

No web design program will create curves for you. That is graphic design work done with Photoshop or similar software. The images are then positioned and duplicated by CSS as necessary to give the illusion of curved design elements. Learn how to use the Slice feature in Photoshop/ImageReady and learn a bit of CSS.

Programs Best For Web Site Design? I need to compare two programming software from two different types of programming languages (scripting, object-oriented) and which would be better for web site design and why?

As far as website design. I recommend Microsoft Expression. It’s preview displays more accurately than Dreamweaver, it can upload to a site via FTP or Frontpage Extensions (Dreamweaver does FTP only) and its cheaper.

As far as the programming software, what languages are you testing? I can refine my answer if you let us know the languages.

I Don’t Know Much About Web Site Design.? Like I said I don’t know much about web site design. What I would like to know is how much does it usually cost to have one made?

The answer is that it varies a lot. A website can cost as little as free and as much as thousands of dollars and up.

      Free or Cheap:
If you want to make the website yourself try out services like
      Google Sites: http://sites.google.com/
      WordPress: http://www.wordpress.com/
      Wix: http://www.wix.com/

You can also find templates which are websites that are already designed. Templates range from free to hundreds of dollars. They are a popular way to get a cheap website. Keep in mind using a template you will need to pay a monthly hosting fee as opposed to the free options above. Keep in mind that setting up your template will require some learning curve if you’re not already used to HTML, FTP, etc (or whatever the requirements of your template is).
      http://www.freecsstemplates.org/
      http://www.templatemonster.com/

      Professional web design:
Getting your website designed professionally is the right choice for businesses (or individuals) that want a professional image / brand presented online. Or they want something that is not possible with a free or template website. Professionals will charge based on the time it will take them to complete the website and how complicated the website is. The important thing is to review the portfolio and references before hiring anyone. Like you would do with any other contractor, compare several web designers and make your decision based on cost and quality.

Web Design ? What exactly is web design and how much does it pay? Also how do you go about getting in this sort of work?

Web-Design is a term used in reference to the design, build, and testing of a website. That means anything from simple html and graphics to a full e-commerce website like verizon.com, or even sites like google and wikipedia.

      It usually involves several steps:
      1. Site Plan
      – a detailed workout of each page, what it does, and how they all link together.
      2. Graphic Design
      – apearance and layout of the site
      3. Data-Design
      – design and build of the data-structures, usually complex databases like SQL.
      4. Programming.
      – building the behind the scenes code (usually ASP, or Perl, or some such.)
      5. Testing
      6. Go Live and fix the bugs.

Getting into a job doing the layout and graphic design will require a good knowledge of Graphic Design, HTML, and CSS. will probably start at around 26k – 32k a year.

Doing the programming requires either a Bachelors in CS, and some experience, OR alot of experience in web-coding. WIll usually pay between 36k – 50k a year depending on how good you are. (that means fast, effiecient, bug-free coding)

Doing the Data-Design requires some classes and at least a certification as a DBA (data-base administrator), with some schooling and experience under you belt, you can make as much as 60 -80k.

In the end, all lof these jobs have to be able to work iwth and understand each of the others, so knowledge and experience with all aspects of web-design will make you more useful and valuable.

I Need To Know How To Design A Dating Web Site? I have just aqired a dating web site that is insuficent for our customers needs, it is very primitive. i need to know a reliable web master, also is it possible to get the apropriate software and design it myself? how hard would it be? please only serious answers.
does anyone know of a good reliable webmaster that can design and maintain the site!

If you have a knack for it and are willing to work hard you can come up to speed with PHP fairly quickly. There are numerous templates and classes availible that make even something as complex as a dating site bearable.

For now, I would suggest patching problems on the current site and evaluating what you want to do.

Some considerations. Hosting on LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL and PHP) is going to give you more power, fewer security problems, and better performance. The user base of support cannot be beaten. There are so many good PHP programers out there that you can almost always find help with a problem in a very short time. MySQL runs some of the busiest websites in the world including Slashdot which is also hosted on Linux using Apache. The term to be slashdotted is a term to mean swamped by sudden traffic and that is a testiment to the huge amount of traffic that LAMP can handle.

Most importantly is it’s free. So that makes your endeavor more profitable. So I strong recomend moving to LAMP if you are not using it. However build it and test it BEFORE you move. You want to preserve continuety, especially with a site like a dating site.

There are many ways a dating site will fail or suceed. Primarily you want to get people talking to people. The more this happens the better your service will be viewed. You also want to able create filters to prevent people from wasting too much time with people they KNOW they don’t want to meet. Weight being a huge one. Smoking, drinking, religion, ethnicity, height and age are big filters that you should support. If a person hates smoking so much that they will not date a smoker, why even have them show up in smoker’s searchs? Contact from smokers are unwelcome contact for these people. So you want to set things up where they do not normally contact each other but have the capability to do so if they are a friend of a friend kind of thing.

Then you have powerfull things that you can create to encourage meeting. Remember your site will be judged on the quanity and quality of the people that it’s members meet. If there are too few contacts people lose interest. If the people who they are meeting are completely wrong they will try somewhere else. I have quite a few ideas on this topic and would be happy to explain in detail.

As for taking over being webmaster, that is probably a bad idea initially. You can find free or inexpensive help. You can learn from them, but marketing is probably going to eat up all your time. Depending on your server costs this can be a substantial figure and you don’t want it eating up your financial resources. There are some ways to market for dirt cheap. They are time consuming however. Something that if you really want this to succeed you need to. Put the effort in and stick with it for a time and you can easily climb to the top of the hill. So many dating sites today are fly by nights or so wrapped up in past success that they throttle thier own future success. I am talking from experience. I met my ex-fiance on a dating site. One that I cannot even log into anymore because it doesn’t support my browser/OS. I was a paid member there for six months about 5 years ago. Most of the other sites I tried around that time no longer exist.

Please do contact me. I think I can be of help with this endeavor in many ways.

Web Site And Design Advice? I am looking into building a website to link to online travel sites. I have a domain, just need a host and design. Was thinking about using godaddy’s design service or Site Build, can anyone suggest a decent looking site builder for a beginner?

    Thanks!

As a regular GoDaddy customer, I have to say… (a) good for domain names, (b) not so hot for web hosting.

Even the “free” web hosting you get with a domain name isn’t as good as some free hosting you can get that has NO ADS…

      http://HesitantRhino.com/free-web-hosting

If you’re looking to “build” a site interactively online, instead of using web design software, then look for a host that has something called Fantastico, that you can use to install a content management system like Drupal or Joomla…. with Fantastic you can have everything setup and running with just a few mouse clicks. After that, it’s just a matter of picking a theme and writing your web pages… which isn’t much more difficult than posting a question on Yahoo Answers…

One small trick you can use for checking such doubts is enter that word or phrase in googe, yahoo, msn search boxes which will then display a recommendation at the top along with the search results, which may clear your doubts

      website
A computer connected to the internet that maintains a series of web pages on the World Wide Web

“website” and “web site” both seem to be in use.
Only Google recommends “website” when we use web site

      web design
Designing content for the a website

all the three recommend “web design” when we use “webdesign”

Web Design? Is it possible to design a web site in Dreamweaver and write coding in Visudio Studio 2005? I perfer to use Dreamweaver for design as I am comfortable with it. For me, VS 2005 is a perfect tool to code a program. Can I design a site in Dreamweaver and import them to Visual Studio? Is there any problem if I develope web site that way? Thank you for your help.

Absolutely, that’s exactly how I do ASP.NET sites: Get the design together in DreamWeaver, do the code in VS.

If you are going to use master pages / themes, there will be some reconstruction of the proper files between the two programs, but it works fine.
