Community Colleges

Community Colleges

If you just started with web design then you’re going to find the below ideas to be helpful. You’ll get all of the things you must know about web design if you’re just wanting to get started. Keep reading and you’re going to learn a lot more!

Colleges

Figure out what HTML is. HTML is basically the language that a webpage speaks to the browser to tell it what to display. There are so many things that go into HTML, that it would be impossible to tell you everything right now. The best way to learn about it would be to read up on it and then try to find a way to do sample websites on your own. If you just read about it and don’t put anything into practice, it’s going to be difficult to see how it works because it’s easier to memorize something after you’ve used it a few times.

CommunitWeb Designy

You may want to think about taking some classes on web design so that you can learn how to get into it faster. There’s a lot that goes into finding the right school, however. You really need to go up there and visit with someone to get a tour of the school. It may be a good idea to have a chat with the teacher you may be working with to see if they vibe well with you and know what they’re talking about. A lot of community colleges are just there for the money, so be careful.

Community Colleges

Think over if you’d want to make web design your career. This is something that a lot of people do, and you can even do your web design from home since it’s based on the Internet. You may end up working for a big client doing a lot of work, or you will be a freelancer doing whatever jobs you can find. Whatever the case may be, it’s a good idea to get yourself online by making your own site so you can show off your skills.

Decades

Try creating a site that works like your business card if you really want to get people to want to pay you to do work online for them making their websites. If you just tell people you can make a website, then that’s not the same as showing them. You need to come up with a price as well. Just act like you’re interested in getting a website from someone and ask them how much they charge. By going to your competition, you can come up with pricing that’s fair and that is competitive. Never charge too little or too much, find the sweet spot.

Friends And Family

Now it shouldn’t be a problem for you to start with web design since you know some of the basics. It’s not going to be easy at first, but after you get it down a little bit, there will be no problems. Good luck to you and hope you do your best!

Need a good site to go and share tech blogs with others. Ones that are quite popular and could even help generate traffic to my site.

Community Colleges No Longer Transfering To 4 Year Universities? I heard from an adult ( I am 16 but I am trying my best to be College ready) I heard that California Community Colleges will stop transfering to 4 year Universities. I hope to God that’s not true and that’s just silly nonesense. Is it true? Thanks.

That’s not true. The news, posted 11/15, is that many students at CA community colleges never meet their goals of transferring to a four year college; not that “community colleges are no longer transferring” to four year schools. I’ll link you to the article:

      http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2009/11/15/Community-colleges-may-not-lead-to-degrees/UPI-99951258302807/

Actually, the public unis in CA – the UCs and the Cal States – give preference in the transfer process to community college students. But the process there is a bit complex, as discussed in this article:

Are All California Community Colleges About The Same? I see that there are 112 community colleges in California, but most are not called “Community Colleges.” Are they all the same, give or take, or are some more technical and others more geared toward transfer to four-year colleges? How can one tell?

Each community college has its own strengths in terms of the programs (majors/degrees) that are offered and the transfer courses that are offered. Two things I suggest doing…

      1. Use the CCC Apply site to explore colleges/search and compare http://home.cccapply.org/colleges

      2. Once you’ve narrowed your focus to a few colleges, look at each individual campus Website. You want to look at the college catalog (where you find course descriptions), department pages (eg. psychology dept. – where you may find degree requirements or a list of transfer courses). You also want to look for the Transfer Center and its Website to get an idea about the transfer services and opportunities on that campus.
      Examples of Transfer Centers:
      http://www.shastacollege.edu/Student%20Services/Enrollment%20Services/Transfer/pages/15599.aspx
      http://alameda.peralta.edu/transfer-program/

If you are interested in transferring to a CSU or UC campus the ASSIST site is very useful!

What Are The Best Graphic And Web Design Companies To Visit Near Seattle Center? I am part of a Graphic Design Club at a Washington State community college. We are currently planning a trip to Seattle in early June 2011, and we want to tour several graphic and web design companies while we are there! We will be touring on June 3rd, 2011.

Can anyone recommend places we should tour? Anyone out there actually work for one of the companies? We will be staying at a hotel in Seattle Center and will need the companies to be within walking distance, or be able to use public transportation to get there. Thanks for the help!

Google companies, see who you like or looks good and contact them. Many web design companies will not allow visitors without appointments and also many may be much smaller than they look online. You’ll want to visit them based on the type of projects they complete so looking at their own websites will be the first thing to do. Then see if they are based near your hostel.

What Is The Easiest Web Design Software? I don’t have experience in web design, but I want to learn to build professional web pages. I know some html, but not much. Is there a cheap, easy to use and professional web design software that I could use easily without paying a lot? Am I asking for too much? Thank you!

I have been coding HTML for about 6 years. Started with Notepad as my editing program. Have recently decided to take some formal instructions in coding HTML and CSS. Notepad is the ONLY editing program permitted for the class. So it is back to Notepad.

However, years ago after doing 2 web sites I finally started using HTML-Kit, a free program from http://www.htmlkit.com/ It will require that you know something about HTML tags and code structure.

There is no software that will produce for you professional appearing web designs right out of the box. It will become necessary for you to learn HTML, CSS, Javascript, php and perhaps more.

Can I Finish 2 Years At Community College In ONE Year And Then Transfer To A University? I’m planning to join the Howard Community college in Maryland and then transfer into the University of Maryland College Park as a Junior. Is it possible to complete the 2 years (60 credits total) at the community college in ONE year (30 credits per semester) and join the university of Maryland? Or is that not possible? Please do explain how you know whether it’s possible or not. Also, can I transfer into ANY university in the US or only to the University of Maryland?

Many colleges have maximum credit load limits of 18-20 credits per semester. Even if your college does not, it is not recommended that you take more than 15 or so credits per semester, until you get a feel for what college classes are like and you know you are capable of taking additional classes.

College is not like high school; most of college level work is done OUTSIDE the classroom. You can expect at least two or three hours of classwork for each hour spent in the classroom, so 15 credits per semester is the equivalent of 45 to 60 hour per week of work (attendance plus school work). That’s already the equivalent of a full-time job or more.

Doubling this is unreasonable. You need to keep your grades up if you expect to transfer into the University of Maryland. Maryland requires a 3.0 GPA for transfers from its agreement community colleges, and I don’t think Howard is one of them: (http://www.admissions.umd.edu/requirements/MarylandTransferAdvantageProgram.php).

You may transfer to any university from your community college, but look to see which universities have an articulation agreement with your school, to determine which classes will transfer.

How Would Going To A Community College Affect My Chances Of Becoming A Doctor? My overall goal goal is to become a psychiatrist. If I go to community college for one year how would that affect my chances of getting accepted into med school? What about two years?

Also, I’ve heard I shouldn’t take any science classes at community colleges if my play is to become a doctor. What else should I not take there? Would it be okay to take math and English? Foreign language?

Any other advice is appreciated, thanks ?
Yes, I realize I need more than community college… obviously. I am asking about after a year of cc. From that point forward.

It rarely matters what kind of school you went to, as long as the school is Regionally accredited by an organization such as Middle States (you can check on collegeboard.com to see if the college you want to go to is accredited by using the College Finder). Further than that, there’s no shame or setback in going to a community college. Speaking as someone working in Academic Advisement, I can tell you that more of what matters is how you do in your coursework. So do what works best for you and apply yourself to your work. In 99% of cases, where you go doesn’t matter; how you do at that school does.

And that idea of not taking sciences at a community college is total hooey. In fact, if you’re looking to go to med school eventually, it’s not a bad idea to take some prep courses at a community college where it’s cheaper, then doing the more intensive stuff at a four-year college. The previous poster is correct that you will, eventually, need a four-year degree (a Bachelor’s) to write your MCATS and go to med school, but you can definitely take some prep courses at a Community college first then transfer to a four year school.

Classes For Web Design? I need to know what classes i need to take for web design. like which math classes would help or science classes.

A responsible and insightful web designer will take in information from many disciplines, because web design in general is a multidisciplinary field where culture, art, and science meet.

      In general…
Art and design classes will give you the aesthetic eye to make appealing visuals that will draw in users. Media studies and humanities will teach you to be mindful of your users, which is of the utmost importance since no one will use a site if it’s not geared for them to use. Sciences will teach you how to be inquisitive. Math will help you to think in steps and algorithms which is important in the scripting of websites.

      Specifically…
The most important classes I took in High School were art where I learned about the elements and principles of design; computer science where I began to learn how to program; and algebra, geometry, and precalculus where I learned a lot of equations I use now to make interactive and animated sites.

      Keep learning.
      Learn about everything.
You WILL be able to apply it to web design.

      Good Luck!

Is There A College For Web Design In PSD But No Programming? I want to attend an online college for Web design ONLY, meaning just the Photoshop part of it , not Programming or at least no programming beyond HTML. Programming jobs are monotonous because one agency wants joombla, css, ajax, whatever, I can’t remember all that. I don’t want to do nor really learn the programming part and there are lots of jobs out there that will pay you good money just to DESIGN PSD, NOT code! even if it’s just an associates degree, does anyone know of an online college, New Horizons? it must be accredited.Thanks.

Web design requires at least HTML and css since css is how most of the design is layed out if u mean just draw what website should look like think ur more thinking of a illustrator (Work pretty much non existent) ,

in this day and age Web design basicly means HTML5 , javascript and css must usually you are also expected to know how the servers works and write basic back end stuff depending on the size of project you may be expected to do it all you dont hire a separate server scripter to write a basic email script and few update time labels in phpjava.netruby the other half dozen on + side you dont need know um all basics of 2 or 3 usally enough very few servers on earth that dont allow all to behonest so you can just take ur pick of 1 your most comfortable with the reason why you need to know since if you don’t know how the back end works how can you design the web pages if you dont know its limitations

      bk to non script bit
for example a job to design a 15 page website working with a few simple scripts would be about ?500-?1000 depending on what you wanted deadline 3-4 days , to draw 15 pages deadline 6 hours ?40 in my experience. you wont make much for the layout and majority of people that want websites have roughly 80% mapped out in there head what they want it to look like etc so why pay some one to draw it and another person to make it, u may make money from actual design off banners and logo’s for web pages but like i said there illustrators dont have WEB anywhere in there name

      http://www.sessions.edu/certificate-programs/digital-arts
is a paid course does photo shop illustrator and many others and Accredited online design school
note it says digital arts not web
      there web design course requires
“ourse topics in the Professional Certificate program include coding in HTML5 and CSS3, developing Web sites with Adobe Dreamweaver, creating Web site mood boards, designing Web graphics, and building interactivity with JavaScript and jQuery. Advanced Certificate students take these skills to the next level with advanced Web courses, Flash design, or other concentrations with topics in ActionScript 3.0, e-commerce design, Internet marketing, and more.”

like i said if you dont no css html and javascript your not a web designer your a illustrator

on + side tho means you can draw logo’s banners etc for websites but also do drawings for games tv shows newspapers magazines etc your not limited to websites which is a good thing

Difference Between Community College And A University? Hi, I was wondering what exactly is the difference between a community college and a University? Is community college cheaper? Does a community college offer dorms? I’m looking in to a community college in California or the University of Oklahoma (if I can get in.) Obviously this economy sucks so would community college be better financially? Thank you!

PS I want to go to be a pharmacist if that makes any difference:)

Community colleges generally offer general education and lower division classes only. It is cheaper, but many don’t offer on campus housing (which is part of the reason why it costs less to go there) Universities have both lower division and upper division classes and it is generally more expensive.

In order to be a pharmacist, you have to graduate from pharmacy school (which is a graduate school). There are specific classes that you will need to take before you apply to pharmacy school, but you can fill most of them in community college already. Also, you need to have a bachelors degree as part of the application requirement. Then you have to get licensed by the government, which means there is an licensing exam to pass. Community college would make sense if you already graduated from an university with a bachelors degree. If you didn’t then you still need to go to the university and graduate with a bachelors degree first. This would mean that you will have to transfer from the community college.

Community colleges are generally 2 year colleges that many people attend to knock off the first two years of their degree and save some money at the same time. the classes are usually the same quality as a college (although private college classes are usually better but more expensive). community colleges are basically a backdoor into college. for example the local community college offers classes for about 71 bucks a class. the local college/university offers the same class for about 300 bucks. I don’t know how good the community colleges are where you live but where I live they are as good as the colleges nearby. plus thanks to an agreement a community college near me made with a university we can take all our classes for 4 years at our community college and earn a degree from the university our cc made a agreement with. so basically community colleges are a cheaper form of college where you don’t live on campus. colleges offer the same education but at a higher price so a lot of people will knock off the first two years at a cc. whats better really depends on you. some people do better starting off at a cc and then transferring to a college or university and some do better starting off immediately at a college or university. also with community colleges you dont have to take SAT’s you just register online or on campus take a school placement test, meet with a guidance officer, and then pay your fees and buy your books and then you are good to go.

Reputable Degree Programs For Web Design? Any reputable degree programs, both online or in person, for Web Design?

    View Comment
    1. Reply

Hey there. Web Design itself is not a degree field. It is a diploma/certificate field. If you do wish to obtain a degree, there are two options:

      Computer Science degree
Software Development degree (added as a more specific branch from the computer science program in recent years.)

For a reputable place to pursue any of the above, including web design, that entirely depends on your location. As for a reputable online program, they may be accepted by some employers, however, I don’t think any would be considered “reputable”.

I should also mention that there are also more specialized areas one can study that are related to the web design field such as: Network Administration, Database Design and Administration, among others.

You should be able to find something locally that would offer any of the above and, as long as it is from an accredited school, would be perfectly acceptable.

What Is Easier To Learn By Yourself? Graphic Design Or Web Design? I was thinking of majoring in Web Design and on my free time or elective classes learn graphic design.

    View Comment
    1. Reply

Actually Web Design and Graphic Design aren’t THAT different. People often get Graphic Design confused with drawing when in reality, it is so much more. There are computer programs that you will have to lear how to use, such as: Photoshop, Illustrator, QuarkXpress and FreeHand. It’s more than just drawing a picture, it’s drawing attention, a focal point that everything else in the work adhears to.

Web Design you also have to learn a programs such as DreamWeaver and Flash. You have to learn at least basic HTML scripting. Again it’s going to be something that people will want to look at, not something that looks like it was thrown together in 5 minutes.

I went to College for Graphic Design Managment, they touched base on basic Web Design. Graphic Design may be easier to learn on your own, but either way their are tutorials all over the web on just about anything that you could possibly want to learn.

Web design is where you make a page on the internet to look the way you want it to look.Usually by using HTML Coding which is very tricky. So you might want to study up on it before you try to design a website
Web development is the growth and creation of web sites and other web functions. The advancements and new inventions made throughout the web, or internet, is considered web development.
Computer Programming is a way of creating computer programs. There are different languages which can be sorted basically into two different groups: High Level, or those that are almost English, and Low Level, which are machine code, and may not resemble English. Computer programming is often called “coding”. It is the adaptation of a computer language (code) as instructions that the computer can read and follow.

An example of Programming language follows:
Dim starsign1 As String Dim prediction As String
Private Sub cmdcalculate_Click() Call getvalue Call calculate Call display End Sub
      Sub getvalue() starsign1 = lststarsign.Text End Sub
