Typical Website

Typical Website

When it comes to becoming an expert, there are many hurdles to overcome before you get there. That said, learning from your mentors allows you to avoid the mistakes they have made throughout their careers. This article was written to show you many common errors made by those in the know and how to avoid them, so read on.

Business Cards

Launch pages are so 1998. If you check the statistics on sites which use these pages today, and there are thankfully very few, most people click the “Skip” button. There is no reason to have a launch page on your site – people want to find the content, not a flashy animation or video. The less steps it takes to get to the good stuff, the more likely it is that your website will retain visitors.

CmWeb Designs

Background music is also so 1998. No one wants to listen to music which is forced upon them unless the website is for a band. Playing a music file eats up your bandwidth, causes the page to load slower and annoys users who can’t turn off their speakers. If you aren’t Metallica, you don’t need music in the background, so skip it and instead spend your time focusing on creating intelligent content.

Creating A Website

Pop-up ads became irrelevant a decade ago. Why? Most browsers don’t even allow pop-up windows anymore! If they do, users install pop-up blockers so they don’t see those windows at all. What does that mean? Your pop-up window will never appear, so why bother creating one? Instead, keep your content on the page itself, even creating automatic pop-up text within the page itself. That will get through to the user and allow you to get your message across.

Easiest Thing

Flash was neat and can be used in fun ways, but isn’t useful on a typical website, especially on the front page. Moving text is all well and good, but only stands to make your website look flashy and potentially untrustworthy. Unless you can use Flash for something necessary, such as providing an interactive video or game, there is no point in using it at all. Any feature which actually irritates those who visit your website is a no-no.

Easy On The Eyes

A confusing website will never be popular. It has to be clear what your website stands to offer within a few seconds of landing on any page. That means you have to grab the attention of the viewer and cause them to continue reading. Provide the information they need at the top of the page, such as the name of your site or company and what you do. Under that, provide links to all of the sections of your site, including off-site content like social media pages or YouTube videos.

Fonts

As long as you understand the mistakes you can make, you are better prepared to find success instead. These tips will help guide you through the process of creating a website the right way the first time. Use them as you continue designing sites and finding great success.

Is A Solo Violin Good Background Music? I was asked by a neighbor to play violin as background music for their parent’s anniversary party. I haven’t accepted or refused yet, I told them that I would think about it. I personally do not think that a solo violin is good background music. What do you guys think? If you think that this could work, do you know any advanced pieces for the violin that would be good for background music?

Violin plays best with an orchestra or another instrument.
But if it’s just a simple party, who cares. Probably the noise of the party will cover your violin sound anyways. I remember once in a birthday party, someone had a string quartet playing some background music. Everyone was so busy chatting and laughing and no one bothered to listen.

FlashKit has a lot of user-created royalty free sound effects and loops that you can download for free. Hopefully you find something there that would suit your needs.

      http://www.flashkit.com/

You can download the sounds in .wav and mp3. Of course, you can convert them once you download them if you need another format for a specific reason.

Website Where You Can Find The Background Music To Various TV Shows? I’ve already found websites that tell you what music is in the TV shows, but I want to know the background music–you know, the tracks that add mood to the show/movie. I would like to find a website like this because I want to know the name of the ending background music to The Walking Dead: When The Dead Comes Knocking. It’s at the very end when the Governor is hugging Andrea, and it has a cool vibe to it. Any help?

I doubt there is any specific websites for what you’re looking for because that sort of music is created by the composer who provides music for each particular show. The best thing I can recommend to you is to just look up each TV show on imdb.com and find out who does the music. As for the piece you’re talking about for that episode, there won’t be a name for it. It’s like you said…just background music.

Those types of music aren’t actually ‘songs’, and don’t always have a name.

They are commonly referred to as either stock, generic, or corporate music,
and are often written / produced by ‘music house’ companies for advertising
agencies, corporate videos, & background music for TV/film documentaries.

It is a long-shot, but maybe you’ll find that piece of music on a site like this:
      http://www.audiomicro.com

      ?

P.S.: Thanks for rekindling my interest & love for Gordon Ramsay and K.N.

While many enjoy streaming Internet Audio and recording songs they like over the Internet, these songs cannot legally be used in a podcast.

Podsafe music refers to music specifically for podcasters or video producers. The music is licensed in such a way that podcasters can purchase a license to include the music in a podcast without incurring additional fees or expenses. In order to use traditional music that is heard on the radio in a podcast, podcasters may have to pay royalties for each time the song is played. Some music files licensed under public domain or creative commons are exempt from royalties and these songs are available for use in a podcast, but generally when searching for music to include in a podcast it is probably best to stick with music that is specifically designated as “podsafe”.

Cool Background Music? What are some places to download good intro/background music?
    or
What are some songs that have really cool instrumentals I could cut out in a 10-20 second clip?

Google “Instrumentals” or “Background Music” and you’ll find a lot of stuff out there. Try to look for some music that is Royalty Free as well. That should help you out.

Using WebSite Tonight To Build A Website, Why Does It Copy My Code On My Homepage To All Of The Other Pages? And how do I get it to not do that?

    View Comment
    1. Reply

I can't be certain without looking at your Website Tonight to see what code is being copied to every page, but you are most likely referring to a "share" block. You can tell if the block is shared when you are in the designer because the dashed line around it will be green instead of light gray (both highlight red when you hover over them).

Shared blocks are used to make updates easier. For example, a typical website will have the same footer on every page. In the event that you want to update information in the footer its easier if you only need to make the change once and it automatically copies to all the other pages. It also prevents you from updating 4 out of 5 pages, for example, without realizing it.

If you would like to unshare a block that is currently shared then follow these steps...

1.From the designer click on the box so that it goes into edit mode.
2.At the top center of the design screen you will now see several icons under the "options" tab. Click the icon that says, "share". This will cause a window to pop up.
3.On the left side there will be an "unshared block" button. Click it.

That's it. Now the content block works independently of other pages.

If this is not the answer that you were looking for then please email yahooanswers@prositetonight.com. We will review your site and post the correct answer here, without revealing any of your personal information (i.e. domain name).

Are Your Typical Small Business Website(s) Ready To Jump Into HTML5? I’m wondering if I should use XHTML for a job or boldly use HTML5, but since I’m not sure, its more reckless than bold really. Are you using HMTL5 for your everyday projects?

HTML5 is a long way from done. At this point I don’t see any compelling reason to use it for business websites.

Guitar Background Music? I have to play background music with my classical guitar for an art exhibit but im not sure what to play. I have some latin music by lauro, piazzolla, ponce, and some european by tarrega, sor, aguado, bach, but what is the standard background music repertoir? is there like specific pieces that are considered “background” music?? names of the pieces and composers will be greatly appreciated i have no problem with learning new music either tab or standard notation, difficulty of the pieces are no problem either
well i do have those arrangements by bach and i have jesus joy in my arsenal as well. About atonal music i didnt mention any brouwer or villalobos so i dont know why you brought it up. Its not my first gig either. The art exhibit is about latin art as well as renaissance, i guess i should have mentioned that before, thats why i mentioned latin composers and some european and again the baroque bach, i also have some fantasias by mylan and narvahez.

You mentioned Bach, but not any specific pieces. If you don’t already have them I’d suggest:

      Air (for a G String)
      Bouree
You can hear guitar versions of those two at:
      http://www.premiumbeat.com/royalty_free_music/royalty_free_bach.php

Another Bach piece that’s wonderful on classical guitar is
      Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desiring
The premiumbeat site has that piece as well but arranged for a string quartet.

What Are The Components Of A Typical Shopping Website? I just need to know the technical names of some of the software applications that are used to set up a website

      If it’s Windows-based: ASP.Net or C#.Net and SQL Server
If it’s Linux-based: PHP and MySQL

Both would use HTML and some transaction processing service.

There are of course many options, but these are the most common if you are building from scratch.
