The Advantages Of Social Media Marketing

by Deja Tweet

If you would like to make more money on the Internet, or perhaps generate more sales for your regular business, social media really is the way to go. Back in the day when Google was the primary focus of the Internet, where information was King, everything has changed with the advent of social networking. Facebook has become the dominating force in this area, and social media marketing is definitely where you want to be. By using certain techniques on Facebook and other social media sites, you will be able to boost your business sales and revenue like never before because you are able to interconnect with so many millions of people. In this article, we will talk about ways that you can use social media marketing to your advantage in order to improve your overall business.

Most people today have a Facebook account. It is something that is as common as having a cell phone, or having a car to drive. Social networking is something that has made a huge change in the way that we not only interact with each other, but in the way that we do business online and off-line. One of the benefits to social media is that there is a trust factor involved, especially with individuals that have so much in common. Many people will join groups online through social media so that they can interact with like-minded people that will talk about the same things. You can use this to boost the amount of sales that you make with your business, but you have to do this in a certain way.

For instance, you can’t simply join a group on a social media network, post links to your products and services, and hope that you will make a lot of money. People are there to socialize, and by doing this, it is not any different than sending spam to someone’s email account. Therefore, you have to participate, as you would in a forum, getting people to know you, before you start marketing any products. The trust that you build with individuals in the group will eventually lead to additional sales. Unfortunately, this is a little slow. There is actually a better way.

Larger social media sites allow you to advertise. On Facebook, you can actually purchase what are called “Likes”. This means that people will come to your Facebook page and “like” it if they find it interesting. By doing this, you’re actually socializing and interacting with hundreds, if not thousands of different people, who may become potential customers. If they actually like what you have to offer, and actually follow you, these people may become potential clients. By using their built-in advertising, you can build a following very quickly, and eventually sell to them once trust is established.

Hopefully these tips on social media marketing will help you make additional sales by tapping into the millions of people that are interconnected online through social media. It is a marketplace that is wide open, and using these strategies, you will hopefully begin to profit in the near future.

A MUST read for business and organizational leaders who need to understand social (aka everyone), February 19, 2014
    D. Stanley (Wisconsin) –

This review is from: Social Media Explained: Untangling the World’s Most Misunderstood Business Trend (Paperback)
Once again, Mark Schaefer hits a home run!

Full disclosure to start. I have used Mark Schaefer’s books with both my business clients and with my university students for the past 3 years (I teach social media marketing courses at the University of Wisconsin-Madison) . I’m a big fan of his work and of him.

Why am a such a big fan?

I believe the purpose of education isn’t knowledge, it’s action. And reading Mark’s books, it’s clear he subscribes to this philosophy as well. While you will learn from his books, he pushes you to act on what you learn. He helps readers get up to speed quickly by cutting out the clutter and focusing on core “need to know” information.

Just like with the Tao of Twitter, it’s clear when you read Social Media Explained, that Mark is both an acclaimed educator and practitioner. Mark is able to distill research and theory into easy-to-understand and ACTIONABLE advice. He knows those in leadership positions don’t have time to experiment with social media. So he gives advice and tips that are perfect for busy leaders, executives, professionals and practitioners who need to understand what social means for business and what to do with social. And, in Social Media Explained, he guides you, step-by-step through the process of moving forward with confidence.

Regarding this book, what I find particularly valuable is the structure. Like you, I’m business and I appreciate a clear, easy-to-follow outline.

Social Media Explained is divided into 4 sections. The first sections cover how social media works in business and which questions and objections you might face when putting together social media initiatives. Then Mark shares a case study that shows his concepts in action. For those readers who feel like they need a social media 101, he provides great, practical descriptions of the major social media platforms in use today.

One other feature I really appreciate about the book is each chapter ends with “Questions leaders need to consider”. I love this. It’s like having Mark sitting with you and asking you the KEY questions that need to be answered as you move forward.

Will this book make you a social media expert? No, there isn’t one book that can do that. But what this book can do better than any other book on the market is help you get up to speed quickly so you can get your organization and team moving forward with confidence.

The FIRST book you need to read about Social Media tools if you run part or all of a business…, March 11, 2014

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Social Media Explained: Untangling the World’s Most Misunderstood Business Trend (Paperback)
This book is a short, illustrative, and to the point primer that answers all of the first few questions almost every business owner, manager, or executive has before they use social media to help grow their business.

What is the ROI of social media (hint: That’s the wrong question)? It’s covered in detail in section 2. What media tools do I start with? In section 3, all different types of social media tools are covered.

It is NOT written for a social media consultant.

It IS written directly for managers, executives, business owners etc… and it is the first book I would recommend you read on the topic of considering social media.
