Search Engine Spiders – Improving Results
The frequency and depth of crawl by the SE bots is a function of how important they consider the page (website) to be. For example a site that ranks in the top ten for very popular search terms might be visited at least every day but a site that ranks only for very uncompetitive terms might be visited only once a month. Normally the higher the PageRank value of the page the more frequent the visits.

Pandak is completely wrong about the Revisit META tag. There is such a tag but Search Engines take absolutely no notice of it whatsoever as anyone who has a website and looks in their server logs can tell you.

The closest you can get to controlling the behaviour of a search engine bot is with the Googlebot and Google SiteMaps…

Search Engine Spiders – Improving Results
1. Before a search engine can tell you where a file or document is, it must be found. To find information on the hundreds of millions of Web pages that exist, a search engine employs special software robots, called spiders, to build lists of the words found on Web sites. When a spider is building its lists, the process is called Web crawling

2. Meta tag in html is not a required tag when you’re creating your web pages; many pages don’t use the tag at all. . To put it briefly, the meta tag is used by search engines to allow them to more accurately list your site in their indexes. If you simply produce your home page and register the URL with a search engine, or a number of search engines, their spider programes will (eventually) toddle along to your site to index it. Now, each of the search engines does this slightly differently.

3. The main boolean operators are AND, OR, NOT, and XOR (exclusive or) In programming, you often use symbols to represent these instead of writing out the words. OR is ||, not is !, and AND is &&. Example: If you put in “Bob” AND “Smith” you would get results that have both Bob and Smith in them (say 150 results). If you put in “Bob” OR “Smith” you would get any result with Bob or Smith (say 3000 results). If you put in “Bob” NOT “Smith” you would get Bob Jones, but not Bob Smith. Not all search engines use these. And some use other terms for them.

4. This one is difficult as I am not familiar with it, and not too many results came up when I searched. But, it looks as though this one is:

5. Metasearch engines enable users to enter search criteria once and access several search engines simultaneously. (i.e One search, results from everyone like Yahoo, Google, Bing, etc) and The advantage is that you are getting an archive (in a sense) of ALL search engines and not relying on the results of just one.

6. Unfamiliar with Sponsor matches…looks very similar to like Google ad words. But, they are paid listings that appear on Yahoo! Search results pages, within selected Directory categories, and on thousands of webpages throughout the Yahoo! network. Sponsor Results only appear when they’re relevant to the search terms you used. For example, if you search for digital cameras, you’ll see advertisements for websites that provide information about or sell digital cameras.

I hope this helps!

Search Engine Spiders – Improving Results
Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is getting the website into the Free/Organic listings of search engines.SEO has been there since the beginning of the Internet. The primary advantage of SEO is that it can be done entirely free, without any cash outlay.

The Job of an SEO is to make the website reach the listings and achive a good page rank through many factors like link popularity, page rank, improving content(i,e) making rich content wrt to search engines.

SEO specialists would have to “guess” and adapt to ever-changing strategies and tactics to either maintain their positions or improve their rank. One month could mean you’re out of the top ten with no warning.

SEO is slower in terms of ranking your site on a lot of chosen keywords. You would have to make numerous link requests, multiple pages, press release, etc. Also, it takes a lot more time for search engines to index new sites’ domain names (it can take months).

Search Engine Optimization
A search engine is a service provided by some company (Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, etc.) which will search through millions of web pages for keywords that a person types into a field. For instance, if I type “Puppy” into a search box on Google’s web site, there are currently 40,800,000 matches available. If the search provider has a good search algorithm in their software, then the most relevant pages should be listed first. In my case, I’m a happy searcher, because after the Google Image samples, the first result listed is the Puppy Linux website, which is the only Puppy I would ever be searching for online. Most search providers keep track of what websites people will actually visit after doing a search. They then use the results to make sure those pages are closer to the top of the list for the next time someone searches for the same keyword(s).

Image search optimization is about using images on your website to draw more “click-throughs” from the search provider, thereby raising your rank in the search list. This, in turn, helps to ensure that you keep getting more visits to your site. A neat article I just found by typing “image search optimization” into Google Search is linked below.
