Search Engine Optimization – Getting Started

Search Engine Optimization - Getting Started

Many people want to know more about the subject. Are you one of them? If so, you might find the following article helpful in your search for information. We hope you find some useful pointers.

Crucial Tips To Help You Get Started On Your SEO Quest

Ad Space

If you are hoping to achieve more traffic to your website, you must increase your search engine ranking. This can be achieved through search engine optimization (SEO). When it comes to this concept, there are many things you must know. Continue reading to learn a few great ideas to help you get started.

Blogger

First, ensure you post great content. Although you may be doing everything else right when it comes to search engine optimization, if your content is not up to par, you will not be successful. Search engines are more advanced than they were several years ago; therefore, they will quickly recognize when your content is poor. This will result in your website being pulled down the search engine results or yanked off altogether.

Carpeting

Posting great content requires several steps. First, you must ensure your content is actually relevant to the topic of your website. Do not post about sports products if you are promoting music. Second, your content should be updated on a regular basis. Your readers do not want to read information that is outdated, and the search engines will recognize this. Aim to post updated information on a weekly basis. If possible, updating daily is best. Finally, avoid stuffing your text full of keywords because this makes your text read unnaturally. Incorporate keywords, but ensure your text still reads naturally. >
SEE ALSO  Engine Optimization Techniques - What You Should Know

In addition to great content, you should obtain inbound links from other websites. This means that another website links to you. When this occurs, you are more likely to be ranked higher on the search engines because search engine crawlers will view your website more favorably. Keep in mind the quote “quality over quantity.” Focus on obtaining links from a few high-quality websites rather than a bunch of lower quality ones.

Engine

You need to have solid keywords. These keywords are what Internet users search for whenever they type them into the search engines. You should do a lot of keyword research based on your niche. Understand the difference between short-tail and long-tail keywords, and know how to correctly utilize them. Unfortunately, you cannot succeed by just throwing a bunch of keywords together. This requires careful thought and a lot of research.

Followers

Utilize meta description tags. These tags are short descriptions of your website that appear in the search engine results. Whenever you search for certain keywords, the meta description tags are what appear underneath the website links that let you preview a portion of the website. It is important that you properly use keywords in them because search engine crawlers will be looking through these tags very thoroughly.

Marketing Campaign

Finally, incorporate a site map on your website. This device literally maps out all of your website’s pages into an easy-to-read map. This makes it easy for the search engines to index your website, helping you achieve a higher ranking.

Money

These are just a few great ideas you should incorporate into your SEO efforts. Be sure you utilize them; however, understand that there is still so much to know about search engine optimization. You are going to have to spend a lot of time researching and learning all you can about this concept if you wish to succeed.

Is Submitting To Directories Good For Search Engine Ranking? Hi there,

I have been submitting my website to directories, search engines, etc and have seen my link popularity inch up to 416 which I know still isn’t good, but can you give me an idea of how many links I need before I get some sort of web presence? Also, how important is submitting to relevent directories? Thank you !

Submitting to relevant directories is very important for SEO. Make sure you are always linking in the exact same way (i.e. http://www.yoursite.com and http://yoursite.com) If your linking is inconsistent you may end up splitting your link juice and therfore your page rank.

Make sure that whenever possible your link’s anchor text is a search where you’d like to see yourself in the search engines. Do a little research with the google keyword tool and find a search with some traffic.

If you are not showing up on any searches right now either you are in an extremely competitive market or googlebot is probably having trouble with your site due to title or meta tag issues.

I suggest you to try some Dofollow blog commenting to get good Backlinks. I found a good dofollow blog commenting service. Not many but just 30 links you can buy from them. But all will be good quality backlinks to your site. I think the price is not too high.

If you can figure out how to have SEO build your network and your networking snowball your SEO efforts that is probably the best strategy. I would say pick the industry you feel you have the most skills to offer in and then use the other industry, whether that be networking or SEO, to build your influence.

      Hi dear,

There is no best book on internet for mastering SEO. Because SEO is an ongoing process. Strategies change day by day.

Best way of learning SEO is research and googling. Ask questions and discover answers from forums like seochat.com.

seomoz.com is also a good place for this purpose.

Search engine optimization, or "SEO" for short, is a process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via natural (organic) search results. Typically, the earlier a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines. This is what offers a web site it's web presence.

Search Engine Optimization considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.

Because effective SEO may require changes to the HTML source code of a site, SEO tactics may be incorporated into web site development and design. The term "search engine friendly" may be used to describe web site designs, menus, content management systems and shopping carts that are easy to optimize.

What Is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)? How It Is Done?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a method to increase your ‘page ranking’ so that your website appears at the top of search engine lists when users search for specific keywords.

There are many aspects to this and it is more of an art than a science.
Some important things to consider for SEO (in order of importance)

      1.Domain name
These should contain key words if possible. e.g. if I were selling flowers I'd want something like:
      http://www.buy-london-flowers.com or http://www.online-flowers-delivery.com
This is the single biggest factor in SEO and it really helps to have keywords contained within your domain name.
      2.Standards compliant Markup
If your website is standards compliant (http://www.w3.org/) then search engines will be able to read the code more efficiently.
      3.Incoming links
Your page ranking increases depending on the amount and quality of websites that link to yours.
Quality is very important, if nefarious sites (such as paid referral sites etc) link to your website then the opposite effect occurs and your page ranking decreases.
There are some well known directories where you can 'post' your business website. The best directories are stringently maintained and well regarded with search engines.
However, it can be difficult and time-consuming to get your website accepted by them.
http://www.dmoz.org/ is probably one of the most well known and best regarded directories.
There are plenty of quick and free directories available, although you should be very careful which directories you submit to.
      4.Page titles
Pretty self explanatory. Use different titles for every different page.
      Use keywords within your titles.
      5.Placement of content within code
Search engines judge content to be more important the higher up it is within the website code.
View the source code of your site, is the 'main content' near the top of the code or the bottom?
If it is near the bottom then it is badly designed and will negatively impact your SEO.
      6.Use of correct semantic markup
In HTML certain tags (when used correctly) can give content more 'weight' and can benefit your SEO.
      e.g.

      Plant Machinery Sales

      = Content header
(There are of course many different tags)
      7.META Tags
Meta tags are now depreciated, most search engines ignore them completely and they have no effect whatsoever on your page ranking.
Some smaller search engines however do still use them, so it's best to include standards compliant meta tags just in case.

There are of course many other aspects to SEO but that is a very brief overview.

You can also set up 'paid' search engine links such as Google Adwords (www.google.co.uk/adwords) and Microsoft AdCenter (https://adcenter.microsoft.com/) although these can get expensive.

      Localization
For advertising in different countries the same SEO tips apply (see above)
Also to take into consideration are:
      1.Localized domain names.
e.g. http://www.flowers.co.uk - ranked higher on UK search engines
http://www.flowers.ru - ranked higher on russian search engines
      2.Location of website servers
e.g. a UK IP address will be listed on google.co.uk and a russian IP address will be listed on google.ru
      3.Website content Language
English ranked higher on UK websites, Russian ranked higher on Russian websites.

      Phew!
      I hope this helps ?

What Exactly Is Search Engine Optimisation And What Is The Job Of SEO?

    View Comment
    1. Reply

Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is getting the website into the Free/Organic listings of search engines.SEO has been there since the beginning of the Internet. The primary advantage of SEO is that it can be done entirely free, without any cash outlay.

The Job of an SEO is to make the website reach the listings and achive a good page rank through many factors like link popularity, page rank, improving content(i,e) making rich content wrt to search engines.

SEO specialists would have to "guess" and adapt to ever-changing strategies and tactics to either maintain their positions or improve their rank. One month could mean you're out of the top ten with no warning.

SEO is slower in terms of ranking your site on a lot of chosen keywords. You would have to make numerous link requests, multiple pages, press release, etc. Also, it takes a lot more time for search engines to index new sites' domain names (it can take months).

Search engine practitioners believe that SEO is a necessary requirement to enable quality web sites to achieve good search engine rankings. The compromise seems to be that search engine operators define some SEO activities as “white hat SEO”(Good) and other SEO activities as “blackhat SEO”(bad) Search engine operators attempt to manually or automatically penalize “blackhat SEO” when they find it or when it is reported to them.

Here are some official guidelines from search engine operators regarding search engine optimization:

      o Google’s Webmaster Guidelines – Google.com/support/webmasters
o MSN Search Guidelines for Webmasters & Resources – Webmaster.live.com
      o Yahoo’s search engine ranking tips & Resources – Help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/search/webmaster/webmaster-01
As Internet Marketing becomes essential need for each and every online business now, there is lot of marketing firms grown up globally. There is really lot of evaluation needed to find good firms to outsource the online marketing campaigns.
