Important Elements In Effective SEO Techniques
If you have ever wondered how search engines know which websites to rank highly, you have come to the right place to find out. Search engine optimization, or SEO, is the key to a high position in search results. A website needs more than just great content. It needs great content that must be optimized. This article will explain to you what that means and what you can do to have a well-optimized website.
SEO is all about making a website relevant to a set of keywords. Keywords are search words and phrases that web users input into a search engine to find information. Anyone who has browsed the web has done this at one time or another. Search engine crawlers crawl through all the web content published on the Internet and index word along the way. Using a complex algorithm, it indexes, compares and ranks websites against words or sets of words. That is how a list of search results is produced when someone types in some search words into a search engine.
As the owner of a website, you have the job of incorporating keywords into your web content. The keywords that are important to you would the words that people would use to find information related to your website. However, you cannot just stuff your page with keywords thinking that the more times these words appear in your website, the higher your rank will be. On the contrary, search engines treat this tactic as keyword stuffing, and your website can be penalized for using it.
Keywords should be used in relevant parts of your website. The meta tags in your HTML code that are for your page’s title and description are good places to include keywords. Paragraph headings coded with a H1 or H2 tags are also effective places for keywords. This is basically how you tell search engines what your content is all about. These are tags on which search engine crawlers assign more weight in terms of relevance.
Your content must be well-written. Not only is it important for search engines, but it is important, and more so, for the human readers. The whole point of SEO is to drive more visitors to your website. If your have poorly written content, it does not matter if a lot of people land on your website because they will quickly leave once they realize that your content is not helpful. Nothing can replace high-quality content when you want to bring in more visitors.
Do not forget about the images. Image file types cannot be read and indexed by search engines, but the text that you put into the image tag’s ALT attribute is indexed. Therefore, you should include keywords there as well.
This is just a few of the many tips on SEO. There is a lot more you can learn. Try to incorporate these techniques, and you will gradually see a boost in your web traffic. As you gain more experience, you will find the right combination of techniques that works best for you.

View CommentDoing SEO with software is not good. Vitalizing SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the key factor in getting optimized high ranking in search engines. In order to get high ranking in such areas as google, yahoo, or msn you must utilize SEO effectively. You can do this by submitting high content articles to many article submitting sites like EZINE and GOARTICLES, and creating back links to your website. In order to use Search Engine Optimization effectively you must hone in on the techniques of spreading tons of content to many different websites while keeping that target niche in mind. After on-page optimization, you can go build your back links to your site. With backlinks, search engines will directly index your websites after finding the links. No need to submit your website to the search engines themselves. Your backlinks will do the work for you.

Which SEO Technique Is Most Important? There are so many SEO techniques. If you were to pick one SEO technique that generates the most results, which would it be?
Is link building the most important? How much more important is link building compared to the second most important SEO technique?
View CommentBuilding authoritative, relevant content is key to success on the web. Just look at the social media revolution; dozens of sites that are now used as a part of SEO strategy (Digg, YouTube, Facebook) were all built by fresh, interesting user-generated content.
The success of web 2.0 rests partly on the staggering amount of users generating content, which helped cement their place in the search engines.
Link building offer a metric for measuring how popular, relevant, or authoritative content is. It primarily serves to validate your content. Search engine algorithms are designed to rank pages and sites based on their authority and relevance. Without the content, there is nothing for the links to link back to.
So to answer your question, content is king, and link building serves to support content.

Learning About Search Engines? I’m trying to make or find a search engine/search bar that gets results only from your own website.
View CommentI’m familiar with how to create as custom search engine within Google, but not Yahoo. However if I understand what your trying to accomplish then the creation of a custom search engine may not be necessary. If I understand you correctly your trying to perform a search that effectively only searches one site. This can be accomplished from using whats referred to as a search operator.
For this example I’ll use the term Tylenol and the site webmd.com.
Go to Yahoo.com and in the search engine you’d type the following: site:webmd.com Tylenol
The results displayed will be limited to references of the word Tylenol (not case sensitive) within the webmd.com website only.
So, if your looking to search your own site for a particular term the search would look something like this:
site:yourwebsite.com term
If you want to search your site for a connected phrase rather than a singular term then the search would look something like this:
site:yourwebsite.com +term-term
If you’d like to search your site for two or more terms then your search would look something like this:
site:yourwebsite.com +term +term
Note that the www is not necessary for this type of search although you’ll get similar results if you choose to use the www prefix in your search.
Some search engines don’t support the use of search operators, but most larger engine do, including Yahoo and Google.
There are tons of useful search operators that you can use. Here is one article and one video that describes search operators in more detail.

Order Of Internet Search Engine Results? On friday I typed a word into Google and found a web site – it was the 6th link that was showed. Today when I typed in the same word into Google, the same website ranked 3rd in the results. Does this happen often, and if so, why?
View CommentThanks
Google (and other search engines) are constantly scanning the Web to check what links to what, so they can determine how to rank their results.
The essential magic of Google (from the very start) is the notion that “good pages link to good pages”, so if you have a webpage, and you link to someone else about “turbocharged engines”, then Google’s search engine thinks you trust that site, so it will rank that site higher.
This strategy encouraged unscrupulous individuals to try to “game” the system by creating fake sites that all point to one master site, which then floats up to the top of the SERPs (search engine result pages). It’s a dirty trick, but so common that even Google hasn’t figure out how to filter out all the spam.
Since new sites are constantly coming and going, Google’s “robot” (the ‘Googlebot’) crawls around the Web, noticing changes, and updating it’s internal list of rankings. What you see when you search is a list of rankings that correspond to your keywords, which are affected by these sites creating or destroying links.
View CommentWeb Page Contents Unwanted Adjusting……? I am doing a web site project for school. When I test the site in IE6 it looks fine, but when I test in IE7 or firefox, the site all swishes to the top of the page…?!?!? I am not sure how to stop this. The site is done with a master page, and the layout is with divs that are set to relative position (because when I used absolute, it skewed it all over the page when I minimized it). Any ideas?
Oh yeah… we are using ASP.NET 2.0 in Visual Studio 2005.
I am actually using a master page to do all of my positioning. I am using divs for all of the layouts and to get the shell centered, and properly aligned.
The problem I have is with the content moving. I am using the positioning types because in VS 05 it left justifies everything.. that was the only way I could find to sit things on the page properly!
View CommentDon’t use relative or absolute positioning for one thing unless you absolutely need to.
If you are trying to keep your page centered with a certain top margin, then you need to have a wrapping div and then a content div styled properly.
You didn’t mention whether you are using an external CSS, embedded or inline to style your page. Will give just what you need to style the divs:
#wrap { width: 90%; margin: 2% auto; }
#contents { width: 100%; color: #fff; background: #000; font-family: verdans, georgia; font-size: 1.0em; }
Then after the body tag:
Try that and see if it helps. Adjust color of text and background to your taste. same for font family. Without knowing what code you used, I can’t tell you what to remove to get this to work with what you have now.

A program that searches documents for specified keywords and returns a list of the documents where the keywords were found. Although search engine is really a general class of programs, the term is often used to specifically describe systems like Google, Alta Vista and Excite that enable users to search for documents on the World Wide Web and USENET newsgroups.
Typically, a search engine works by sending out a spider to fetch as many documents as possible. Another program, called an indexer, then reads these documents and creates an index based on the words contained in each document. Each search engine uses a proprietary algorithm to create its indices such that, ideally, only meaningful results are returned for each query.
search engines are ::
1. A software program that searches a database and gathers and reports information that contains or is related to specified terms.
2. A website whose primary function is providing a search engine for gathering and reporting information available on the Internet or a portion of the Internet.
A subject directory is a service that offers a collection of links to Internet resources submitted by site creators or evaluators and organized into subject categories. Directory services use selection criteria for choosing links to include, though the selectivity varies among services. Most directories are searchable.
Directories are useful when you are doing topic-based research. If you have a research project, or need to explore an idea, event, subject area, proposition, phenomenon, etc., directories are a good place to begin. Visit search engines for very targeted or obscure topics, multi-concept queries and searches for specific people, sites, etc. Directories are the better place to begin your research on topics.
General Tips
1. There are two basic types of directories: academic and professional directories often created and maintained by subject experts to support the needs of researchers, and directories contained on commercial portals that cater to the general public and are competing for traffic.
2. Academic and professional directories are created by librarians or subject experts and tend to be associated with libraries and academic institutions. These collections are created in order to enhance the research process and help users find high quality sites of interest. A careful selection process is applied, and links to the selected resources are usually annotated. These collections are often created to serve an institution’s constituency but may be useful to any researcher. As a rule, these sites do not generate income or carry advertising. INFOMINE, from the University of California, is an example of an academic directory.
3. Commercial portals are created to generate income and serve the general public. These services contain directories that link to a wide range of topics and often emphasize entertainment, commerce, hobbies, sports, travel and other interests not necessarily covered by academic directories. These sites seek to draw traffic in order to support advertising. As a part of this goal, the directory is offered in conjunction with a number of additional customer services. LookSmart is an example of a commercial portal.
4. Subject directories differ significantly in selectivity. Consider the policies of any directory that you visit.
5. One challenge to the above is the fact that not all directory services are willing to disclose either their policies or the names and qualifications of site reviewers.
6. The lines between directories, search engines and the deep Web are blurring. The deep Web is often represented by searchable news, phone books, dictionaries, maps, stock quotes, items in retail stores, multimedia files, etc. Directories are also present at some search engine sites, and sometimes their contents are searched along with content from the general Web. For example, AltaVista offers the LookSmart directory.
Directory results are sometimes placed before search engine results in order to steer users to the directory’s content. This can be a useful way of getting at substantive content relating to your query.
7. Most subject directories are searchable. For more information, see General Search Strategies later in this tutorial.
Two subject directories useful for initial exploration are Yahoo and BUBL LINK. These services illustrate vastly different policies for the selection and evaluation of sites to include in their collections.
* Yahoo does not reliably evaluate content, but only categorizes sites submitted to the service. Yahoo! is the most famous example of a commercial portal, but it is not an appropriate research tool. To see a selected list of these types of sites, follow this link.
View Comment* BUBL LINK is a significant, professionally-maintained directory that is a UK funded project hosted by the University of Strathclyde Library in Glasgow, Scotland. Its many years of experience are apparent in the breadth of its listings, useful indexing, variety of access points and cogent, well-written annotations
