Outreach Techniques - After 2011

We have separated the key issues of SEO and put them on their own pages to make them easier to access. You will find the posts highly informative, and while here, have a look at the comments as well. There are lots of great suggestions from our readers, in fact, share your own suggestions, we would love to hear them. Before you do though, check out the article below: it is intelligently written and the author makes some insightful points.

Important Post-2011 SEO Points of Consideration

Content Body

Before early 2011, there was a great deal of speculation about what changes might be expected in relation to Search Engine Optimization in light of Google’s planned alterations. Today, now that the changes have been implemented, and continue to be updated, it’s important to evaluate whether there are improvements that you can make that will help you attain higher SEO rankings.

Keyword Density

In order to groom your website so that it can compete successfully for higher rankings, it’s important to know the key difference between the way in which search engines formerly ranked websites and the current method. In the past, website designers followed the rule ‘more backlinks = higher rankings’. Google’s new algorithm is less impressed with backlinks. Instead, it is more impressed with, and therefore gives higher rankings to, sites with verified authors and indications of good visitor experience. >

There are some common sense ways that you can convince the search engines your website is worthy of higher rankings. For instance, place a profile picture of yourself near your blog posts. Make frequent updates to your profile, showing active participation in the website’s maintenance. Spruce up your website’s design so that visitors will spend more time viewing, and reduce bounce rate.

Keyword List

In addition to giving visitors to your website a clear impression of who your are and what information you offer, and doing that in an attractive format, you will want to become familiar with using the search engine’s favored html tags and social media outreach techniques. Here are some basics to get you started.

Outreach

Using Schema markups will help ensure that search engines can access the information in your website, and this in turn will enhance your rankings. The more targeted search options offered by Schema makes it easier for visitors to find exactly what they are looking for on the internet. Websites that incorporate this will be more apt to have higher rankings.

Outreach Techniques - 2011

The new search engine methodology not only looks at your authorship validity, it also ‘judges’ the authorship validity of other websites that you have circled with Google+. If those sites have good rankings, it can have a positive influence on your site’s rankings. For that reason it’s important to be mindful when networking.

Search Engine Optimization

If you have links on your website, take care that visitors will be able to follow those links to valid websites. Deadend links will appear unappealing to the search engines, and will negatively impact visitors’ experience. The new search engines’ purpose is to give people the best possible search results. If you have links that go nowhere, search engines will see that, and you might not achieve optimum search rankings.

Search Engine Results

With the changes that were made by Google in 2011, you can now expect to receive favorable rankings if your site is focused, attractive, with valid authorship and follows Schema markup. This is an encouraging scenario for website authors who are devoted to giving their visitors the best possible experience and high quality material. Keep these points in mind as you evaluate your website, and you can expect to attain optimum search engine rankings.

What Is The Difference Between Different Search Engines? What Should I Use? There are many popular search engines in the internet. What is the difference between them? Example Ask Jeeves, AOL, Google, Infospace, MSN and Yahoo! Can anyone expalin to me what are they for, this different search engine?

I would go with AOL, Google, MSN, and Yahoo!. The reason is because those are the most popular and professional ones. Ask Jeeves is just the search engine Ask in kid version which is a kids’ homework helper. Infospace is a non-popular search engine. And some people use it. But its not as good as the other ones. Ask is good but it has a lot of ads. Which gets really annoying.

What Type Of Skills Would I Need To Get A Job In Website Design? I’m constantly looking for ads from companies that need website designers and it seems like I know everything I already need to know to design a website (I’ve already made several of them just for fun). I’ve got advance computer skills, a freakishly fast typing speed (although I’m guessing that isn’t very important), it’s easy for me to learn to use new programs, I know a pretty good amount of HTML, I’m really good with computers in general, and I LOVE designing websites.

Problem is I’m not sure if that’s enough… It’s kind of like I’m missing some advance skills. So what kind of skills would an employer expect me to have?

For web design you would need to know CSS AJAX (javascript/xml) HTML and graphic programs. A web designer deals with the UI and client side development.

Now, for a web developer you would need a server side programming language: ASP, PHP, JSP. You would need to know a DBMS, such as MySQL. Javascript.

Does Anyone Know Of A Good Website Designer In The Houston Area? I’m looking for a professional website designer to build a new site for my consulting firm. Willing to pay whatever necessary.

I may not know of a good one to recommend to you, but I most certainly know of a bad one that I'd like to warn you about just in case you stumble upon their information so that you can avoid them at all costs. I have a business in which, at the time, I needed someone to build my site. I solicited the help of Content Media Group (located in the Houston/College Station area). Steve LaSalle, the CEO of this company was my specific point of contact and decided to personally take on my project. Throughout my time working with Steve I found him to be short with me, rude, and have little integrity when it came to doing what he said he was going to do. He was a "bully" in trying to do what HE wanted to do for MY project instead of him trying to meet client satisfaction. Steve LaSalle made promises he couldn’t't keep and in the end I ended up paying him much more than he deserved just so that I could be done with the nightmare of working with Content Media Group. Now I am stuck having to look elsewhere to find someone who can fix the things that Steve couldn't do and left incomplete on my site. I said all this to say, don't get involved with Steve LaSalle or Content Media Group.

How Much To Charge To Redo A Company Website? My boss figured out that I am an amateur graphic designer/ website designer. He asked me to redo their very complex multi page company website. He wants an initial price but I have done this for my personal website and for fun so I dont even know where to start. Whats a fair price for the intial set up, per picture, flash plus per page?
Please advise… also if it depends upon my location. I work in California.

I usually have a set hourly wage and when it comes to developing for people that i know, I usually just cut the hourly price by however much i want to depending on the relationship. So i would say just think of how much you want to make, a fair price then think of how long it will take you, and simply calculate! :]

Should I Become A Website Designer/developer? Right now, I’m in a bind in choosing career paths. I’ve attempted at a Computer Science bachelor degree, but found I am too overwhelmed with the math. I do have an affinity for website design, developing and could work hours on end developing a website.

    – I have an affinity for website design/development (a passion of mine)
    – Have self-taught myself HTML, XHTML, CSS, PHP, SQL, XML, Javascript
    – Have learned Java, Python, C, Assembly (from university)

So should I pursue becoming a website designer/developer (although that field is known to be overpopulated) or will my talents be wasted? Will becoming a website designer/developer guarantee me at least an average lifestyle?

Any input and criticism is welcome. Thanks!
To the SQL question, specifically, I’ve used MySQL.

Nowadays, “website Designer” is an overcrowded profession: there are thousands if not millions of people that, after using dreamweaver for 10 minutes, call themselves “web designers”.
They are not: they are just amateurs.
Web design requires THREE skills (and excellent experience in all three):
      – Artistic and Design skills (Graphics)
      – Marketing
      – Coding.
Artist you can be: it is first a gift, second a practice. You can learn all the techniques to draw, that does not make you a Salvador Dali! However, this is what make your site “attractive”. On average, 1 out 10,000 is well designed…
Marketing? You must be good at it to “sell” your website or your products. In the first 2 seconds a visitor sees your home page, HE must be caught by something FOR HIM, that interest HIM. Not you! He is lazy: no long texts. Straight to the point. Sell your idea. This eliminates 80% of sites. They are not interesting.
      Finally, coding… The hard part.
Since 2003, AJAX has entered the market (interactivity), and everyone wants it. This means you MUST be expert in (X)HTML, javascript, PhP, (Perl), MySQL and AJAX to the LEAST.
You site MUST work smoothly and without bugs. This eliminates also a great number of sites, written with Web Editors that do not cope with the current requirements.

In the past (Web 1.0), you could write a static site in a few hours. More interactive with javascript would take you a week or two. AJAX can take you months to write a site.
… Clients now want Web 2.0… for the price of static pages…

Now money… Even if you are good, it is not (really) worth it!
The competition is extraordinary high (a cut-throat!) (especially from “emerging economies” like India, who can work for 2-3 us$/hr.)
To be successful, you not only need to be good, you need luck.
      You have the cards.
      Good luck!

There are many online website builders that allow you to build your own website for free, and these free website designers also help you to choose the best theme, color scheme, and layout for your website. The free website designers have their advantages, but you may find that the disadvantages far outweigh the benefits of using these “free” website designers.

Website designers make a website look and act the way the website owner wants it to.

It can be very simple, containing nothing but text, or it can be very complex.

How To Ping For Search Engines? I make a sitemap for my new site, and I want to ping for major search engines, is there an easy way?

I think ping for search engines is useful. sitemap can help search engine crawl complete and quickly, and ping just like a notifier, which can tell search engines, there is a update waiting for crawl. that is to say, without ping, you are waiting for search engine to crawl, and ping, you will let search engine to crawl.

and if you want to ping, you can use the tool i use, it called SitemapX, yes, as the name shows, it not just for ping, but for sitemap making, it is a free tool, you can try it.

Before you jump into a car, you need to know where you???re going. In SEO, you need to know what keywords you are going to optimize for before you start optimizing. Spending a few hours researching keywords can make all the difference in the world.

Search engines only do just index what they got from spiders.the spiders or robots are objects that gather information from various websites so it might be depend on engine to engine how they gather information(to process) then they process that information and convert to data(processed information)
and then store that data in their servers as indexes so whenever the used search a keyword from their site that keywords point out to index that stored on the server and return the data to user. so in that context data is the links or image or video URLS.

There are literally thousands of search engines. All you need do is type the word “search engines” into your search slot and presto you’ll be looking at loads more than you can deal with.

I’ve got at least 20 stored in my favourites.

Google is not the best search engine by any means. What it does do however, is make life easy for us surfers. However, for more detailed searching there are other and better engines.

There is so much competition between search engines, that the Yahoo spell checker seems not to know that the word Google is now part of the English language. Just how childish is that?

Search Engines? Do you know where I can find a professional search engine that is credible?

    View Comment
    1. Reply

In the search engine list below. you can find the major search engines of the web.
Why are these considered to be “major” search engines? Because they are either well-known or well-used.

For webmasters, the major search engines are the most important places to be listed, because they can potentially generate so much traffic.

For searchers, well-known, commercially-backed search engines generally mean more dependable results. These search engines are more likely to be well-maintained and upgraded when necessary, to keep pace with the growing web.

      – Google
      – Yahoo
      – Ask
      – AllTheWeb.com
      -AOL Search-
      -HotBot
      -AltaVista
      -Gigablast
      -Live Search
      -Looksmart
      -Lycos

how do I search without my specific preferences in google? eg- i have been visiting a site lots today so it comes up as the first result in google, but it doesnt on the other computer.

      Hi

Most major search engines will find your website naturally, however it is possible to manually submit to search engines (here’s Googles for example – http://www.google.co.uk/submit_content.html) There are tools available to submit sites to multiple search engines but this isn’t something that is recommended.

The description under the link in the serps is called a meta description. This can be changed by editing the More details here -http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2067564/How-To-Use-HTML-Meta-Tags

I think your visited sites are showing as the first result in Google because you are logged into a Google account? You can simply log out to prevent this or go to the following link – https://history.google.com/history and make sure “Web History is off” you may also need to go to search settings and turn off personal results. This will then show the true search results.

      Hope this helps!

Mostly a website designer figures out how to make a site pretty and still incorporate all the crap the other people in the company want on the site. it can be difficult because often what you learn in school is not what the rest of the world wants.

In a large company, a designer only come up with the skin for the site and developers do the useibility, but in a smaller company, you would most likely be responsible for all of it.
