The Walking Dead: The “Andrea”sode

Laurie Holden Andrea The Walking Dead

This reminded me a bit of what used to happen with Star Trek: The Next Generation. Every so often the writers would create and episode that centered around a specific character – like a “Warf”isode, or a “Data”sode.

Episode 14: “Prey”

In this episode, we follow Andrea‘s actions as she tries to tries to estrange herself from “the Guv’na”.

It was interesting that they started the episode with a flashback to when Andrea and Michonne were on the road with Michonne’s “zombie pets”. Andrea broached the question whether Michonne knew the pets prior to the apocalypse, which seemed to bother Michonne for some reason. Apparently, Michonne knew the pets previously, but did not like them. Perhaps they were family, but had a criminal history?

So, most of the show was about Andrea trying to distance herself from Woodbury and the Philip (the Governor). He, of course, had other sinister plans, and pursues her as best he could. At the old warehouse (I think the same one where they had the summit meeting last week), Andrea actually escapes and leaves Philip in the clutches of a group of “biters”.

Andrea gets within shouting distance of the prison, and the Governor jumps out of nowhere and pins her to the ground before Rick can see her (he is on watch). Philip then takes her back to Woodbury, lies to everyone about whether he found her, and chains her up in the interrogation/torture roomwe think he originally set up for Michonne. That’s the last scene we see.

A few notes. Rick did see something in the distance when Andrea arrived, but he shrugged it off as another one of his “visions”. Milton displayed a certain amount of rebellious chutzpah by burning up the caged zombies and zombie traps outside Woodbury while the Governor was away. Tyreese seems to be suspicious that the Governor is a bit off his rocker. This is important because I know in the comics Tyreese becomes one of Rick’s confidants, but the series does not always follow the comics, so who knows.

One question I had – Andrea is running down the road and hears a car behind her. Then she runs into the woods and stops! Biter all around. Why didn’t she just keep running when she entered the woods? Zombies are slow…

The Talking Dead episode afterward was pretty good. They discussed Dale‘s impact on Andrea, and how the Governor seems to be into caging people up – like they are his own personal toys to use as he wishes. Personally, I’m still not sold on Andrea as a heroine – she still seems too self-centered. My favorite characters are Michonne (the survivor) and Herschel (the conscience).

Tonight’s episode was good, but it was nearly as suspenseful and intense as last weeks summit. I guess next week we’ll return to the prison and see what the consensus is about turning Michonne over to the Governor. I’m sure they will suspect it’s really a trap (if they have any brains at all).

Does The Omnibus Collection Of The Walking Dead Contain All Of The Graphic Novels? As a Christmas gift someone asked for the graphic novel “The Walking Dead.” I know I won’t be able to afford buying the original comic of each, however, if I bought the omnibus collection would all of the graphic novels be included?

You’re actually better off getting the Compendiums. The first one has issues 1-48 and the second one has issues 49-96. They’re 35 bucks each on Amazon. The omnibuses are more expensive and have less issues. Each omnibus has 24 issues and they’re like 60 bucks, for that price you could get both Compendiums and almost have all the Walking Dead issues up to date.

How Did The Zombie Apocalypse Start In The Walking Dead? Is it ever mentioned how or what started the zombie infection in the walking dead? I know Shane says that it started as a few weird stories on the news but what is the actual cause?

That was never explained. Also the writers of the show don’t want to dwelve into that and focus more on the drama and cation.

I’m pretty sure the show films in GA and luckily I live in GA. So does anyone have any info on how to become an extra zombie on the show? Thanks in advance.

What Is The Difference Between All The Walking Dead Comics? After watching The Walking Dead on AMC, I decided to start collecting and reading all the comics. I bought the first volume (Days Gone Bye) and noticed on the shelf that there were hardcover books as well. When I checked online, I saw the regular comics and countless different hardcover books of the series. It’s got me really confused on what to buy? Will I be missing out on anything if I just get the single volume paperback comics? Do the hardcover editions have any bonuses or extra things that the regular comics don’t?

The Living Dead is an anthology of zombie short stories edited by John Joseph Adams that I really enjoyed. It’s got some pretty wicked zombies in it and the stories are written by some of the top horror and fantasy authors of the day.

World War Z was good. Don’t let seeing the movie stop you from the book. The book is laid out very differently.

Day by Day Armageddon by JL Bourne is one of my favorites. It preceded the current zombie craze, but it’s a solid good read.

Last Bastion of the Living by Rhiannon Frater is also a good read. A little different, imo, but still pretty good.

Cell by Stephen King is sorta zombies, but not the standard issue. It’s got a bit of just straight up paranormal, but again, still a good read.

Monster Island by David Wellington is pretty good too.

I’m not much on the graphic novels for Walking Dead either, but I have read them lol. Guess I’m a Walking Dead geek. There’s also 3 Walking Dead novels: Rise of the Governor, Road to Woodbury and Fall of the Governor. You might be interested in them.

Poll: The Walking Dead Or Supernatural? Which show do you think is better The Walking Dead or Supernatural?

Although “The walking dead” is a great show, for me, it does not even come close to “Supernatural”

The storylines, the realationships between the characters, the intensity and above all, the bond between the brothers. The show has made me laugh and broken my heart.

No show or characters in a show has ever touched or moved me the way “Supernatural” and “Sam and Dean” have. ?

The Walking Dead Vs Falling Skies? I watched the first season of the walking dead and absolutely loved it. I TRIED to watch falling skies and managed to force down 3 episodes, it was terrible. the walking dead has much better characters, the characters are so much more realistic, much more depth and development and are much better actors. the seeting is much more realistic, and dark unlike falling skies where its all bright and happy for some reason, any why are therelike 10,000 survivors thats so stupid. the characters are undeep, and no character deveopment and terrible acting.Id actally feel sad of someone died in twd, becaus e the characters were deep and deveoped, but i couldnt give a toss if a character die in fs, dont even know theyre names. I just much prefer the walking dead as a whole and cannot wait for season 2. I really wanted to like falling skies I really did, I love all the zombie ,alien post apocalyptic , group of survivors story but just coldnt watch the falling skies and wont watch season 2. what do you guys think?

The Walking Dead is my favorite show! I haven’t enjoyed a show this much since LOST. So, if I had to choose it would win over Falling Skies…no contest! ?

But I do like Falling Skies. I know a lot of people hated it but I liked the family focus it took. Instead of showcasing a bickering family, Tom and his sons actually supported each other. Also, I found the aliens to be really interesting and I look forward to learning more about them.

I definitely agree that there could have been more character development done. The supporting characters were really weak but I did feel for Tom (the main character) & his family.

It’s no Walking Dead but you should try to give the show another chance. It gets really good in later eps! ?

Zombie Books? Ex: Walking Dead.? I LOVED the Walking Dead TV series and even thought the game was interesting but are there any good zombie books? It would be nice to have a romance during a zombie apocalypse NOT A ROMANCE WITH A ZOMBIE (that is disgusting). ?

There are many, mostly not much romance. Some that do have it are:

The Shore of Monsters by David J. Nix - 2011. Five generations earlier, a horde of monsters nearly obliterated humanity. All males are dead or ruined by a monster plague; words like ‘father’ and ‘romance’ have lost meaning. When teenager Sky joins an expedition to the shore that falls apart, she must survive amongst the monsters that roam the ruins. She gets unexpected help from a very surprising source. Mystery, action, and romance follow!

Enclave by Ann Aguirre - 2011. In a shattered, post-apocalyptic world, 15-year old Deuce's dream has come true. She has been named a Huntress, trusted by her community to brave the world outside of the sheltering tunnels and the threat of monstrous Freaks to bring meet to the tribe. The assignment is complicated by her pairing with the rebellious and handsome Fade, and a realization that the Freaks are growing more organized and cunning. Deuce and Fade must convince the tribal Elders of the imminent danger before it is too late.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan - 2010. Seven generations have passed since the Return, a plague that reanimates dead humans into creatures that feed on the living. Teenager Mary lives inside one of the last enclaves of uninfected, protected by a chain link fence that surrounds her village. When the fence is breached, Mary flees the village with a small band of survivors. Their flight toward an uncertain salvation is both harrowing and revealing, as they try to determine if they are humanity's last hope.

The Walking Dead Season 4 Begins Filming in May, Premieres in October

I’m super pumped for it though ? I’ve been wanting Andrea to die pretty much ever since she shot Daryl. I do like how they revamped her purpose of keeping the peace between the groups near the end of the season…..then BAM…dead D:
