How about some music trivia?
B-B-B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets
When Elton John and his band first recorded “Bennie and the Jets”, they thought the song was pretty blah. So, their producer had the clapping, whistles, and other “live” sound effects added to the track to beef it up a bit. Although the band was skeptical, and thought the song would go nowhere, it went on to hit a #1 position on the charts.
Dear John? Really?
On the road together in 1980, Specials singer Terry Hall and The Go Go’s guitarist Jane Weidlin had a brief, but apparently pretty steamy, affair. After the tour was over, Hall sent Wiedlin a letter explaining how they had to break up. Weidlin turned the letter into The Go Go’s first big hit, “Our Lips are Sealed”. Hall was later credited as a co-writer.
Ah, Cars and Women
After AC/DC lead singer Bon Scott died of an overdose, it looked like the band was toast. But, they introduced a new singer named Brian Johnson, hoping the success could continue. While in the studio working on a new album, Johnson was daydreaming and looking out the window while cars were streaming by. He had a thought about how much alike cars and women were… “She was a fast machine / She kept her motor clean”. The rest is history – AC/DC’s first big hit in the U.S, “You Shook Me All Night Long“, was born.
And Now, Some Humor…
I couldn’t pass these up.
“The sign said ‘This door to remain closed at all times’. Correct me if I’mwrong, but doesn’t that defeat the purpose of a door?” – Danny McCrossan
“Is it fair to say that there would be less litter if blind people were given pointy sticks?” – Adam Bloom
You know how yawns are contagious – how if you yawn, everyone around you yawns as well? Birkbeck College in England conducted a study that found dogs can “catch ” yawns as well. Out of 29 dogs, if eye contact was made with a yawner, 21 of the dogs yawned as well.
A Rat by Any Other Name…
Although the Birkbeck College dog study seems worthwhile, I’m not quite so sure about this one. In 2005 Linguists at the University of Barcelona discovered that rats can’t tell the difference between Japanese spoken backward and Dutch spoken backward. Go figure…
