Tuesday Trivia

How about some music trivia?
B-B-B-B-B-Bennie and the Jets
When Elton John and his band initially taped “Bennie and the Jets”, they thought the tune was pretty blah. So, their manufacturer had the clapping, whistles, and other “live” sound impacts contributed to the track to beef it up a bit. The band was skeptical, and thought the song would go no place, it went on to strike a # 1 position on the charts.
Dear John? Really?
After the trip was over, Hall sent out Wiedlin a letter discussing how they had to break up. Weidlin turned the letter into The Go Gos first huge hit, “Our Lips are Sealed”.
Ah, Cars and Women
After AC/DC diva Bon Scott died of an overdose, it appeared like the band was toast. However, they introduced a brand-new singer called Brian Johnson, hoping the success could continue. While in the studio dealing with a brand-new album, Johnson was fantasizing and looking out the window while cars were streaming by. He had a considered just how much alike women and automobiles were … “She was a fast maker/ She kept her motor tidy”. The rest is history – AC/DCs first success in the U.S, “You Shook Me All Night Long”, was born.
And Now, Some Humor …
I couldnt pass these up.
” The sign said This door to stay closed at all times. Correct me if I mwrong, but does not that beat the purpose of a door?” – Danny McCrossan
” Is it reasonable to say that there would be less litter if blind people were given pointy sticks?” – Adam Bloom

The band was doubtful, and believed the song would go nowhere, it went on to hit a # 1 position on the charts.
Weidlin turned the letter into The Go Gos first big hit, “Our Lips are Sealed”. You understand how yawns are infectious – how if you yawn, everyone around you yawns? Out of 29 pet dogs, if eye contact was made with a yawner, 21 of the pets yawned.

You know how yawns are contagious – how if you yawn, everyone around you yawns? Birkbeck College in England conducted a study that found dogs can “catch” yawns also. Out of 29 canines, if eye contact was made with a yawner, 21 of the pet dogs yawned.

Is There Bennie And The Jets Haley Reinhart Instrumental? I need a karaoke version by Sunday and my voice sounds best with the music Haley uses, but I can’t find and instrumental/karaoke version of it. Does anyone know where I could find one or is there anyone that could make me one? It would be so amazing.

I couldn’t find Haley’s version and it sounds like you don’t want to consider Elton John’s version. I did find an instrumental (not karaoke) version done by Sliding Doors. Check it out and see it’s more to your liking:

Why Do Some People STILL Dislike President Obama? President Obama rescued the nation from a collapsing economy!
He has caused the unemployment rate to plummet.
He has put an END to and slashed gross government spending that was implemented by Bush.
He has brought our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan.
He has passed a bill that will give every human being in America FREE health care and free college tuition!
He has even won the freaking Nobel PEACE prize!!!
    What more do people want?
Why do people still oppose him? Will racism ever die?

I do not dislike Obama personally. Differences of opinion and ideology, passionately held, drive the opposition to Obama’s policies. Idiots, wing nuts and haters exist — on both sides of the political spectrum — in a country of 300 million people. Those who threaten and engage in violence should be arrested and prosecuted. Those who use incendiary language should be denounced.

But which “hater” said the following, and where was the condemnation?

“The (George W.) Bush administration and the Nazi and Communist regimes all engaged in the politics of fear. … Indeed, the Bush administration has been able to improve on the techniques used by the Nazi and Communist propaganda machines.” Was it a) Miss Piggy, b) Lady Gaga, c) the Dog Whisperer, or d) George Soros, billionaire Democratic supporter?

“(George W. Bush’s) executive branch has made it a practice to try and control and intimidate news organizations, from PBS to CBS to Newsweek. … And every day, they unleash squadrons of digital brownshirts to harass and hector any journalist who is critical of the President.” a) Dan Rather, b) Katie Couric, c) Helen Thomas, d) Al Gore, Nobel laureate.

“(Republicans are) coming for our children. They’re coming for the poor. They’re coming for the sick, the elderly and the disabled.” a) Mother Teresa, b) the Grim Reaper, c) Jack Bauer, d) Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga.

The contest between Democrats and Republicans is “a struggle of good and evil. And we’re the good.” a) Wolverine, b) Spider-Man, c) RoboCop, d) Howard Dean, then-Democratic national chairman.

When asked whether the number and prominence of blacks in the Bush administration suggested a lack of racism, he said, “Hitler had a lot of Jews high up in the hierarchy of the Third Reich.” a) Adolf Eichmann, b) Joseph Goebbels, c) Heinrich Himmler, d) Harry Belafonte, entertainer and liberal activist.

He called President Bush’s perceived lack of help for Katrina victims “ethnic cleansing by inaction” and called it a “calculated … policy.” He added, “So by simply not doing anything to alleviate this … crisis that was so greatly exaggerated by Katrina, they let the hurricane do the ethnic cleansing, and their hands are clean.” a) David Duke, b) Jack the Ripper, c) Jeffrey Dahmer, d) Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass.

“When you look at the way the (then-Republican-controlled) House of Representatives has been run, it has been run like a plantation. And you know what I’m talking about.” a) Kunta Kinte, b) Harriet Tubman, c) Booker T. Washington, d) then-Sen. Hillary Clinton, former first lady and current secretary of State.

“George Bush let people die on rooftops in New Orleans because they were poor and because they were black.” a) Ming the Merciless, b) Ivan the Terrible, c) Vlad the Impaler, d) Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.

“It’s not ‘spic’ or ‘nigger’ anymore. (Instead, Republicans) say, ‘Let’s cut taxes.'” a) Bernie Madoff, b) Bonnie and Clyde, c) Bennie and the Jets, d) Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y.

“You’re damn right; Dick Cheney’s heart’s a political football. We ought to rip it out and kick it around and stuff it back in him.” a) Dr. Seuss, b) Dr. Oz, c) Dr. J, d) Ed Schultz, MSNBC and radio host.

“We are in danger. The extreme right wing has seized the government. Tonight (John) Ashcroft and the CIA and the FBI and Homeland Security and the IRS can work together. So look out, because without a definition of who is a terrorist, anyone can be. … Martin Luther King could have been. … The right-wing media, the FBI — they are targeting our leadership.” a) Mr. T, b) Flavor Flav, c) Gary Coleman, d) the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

“And what we are dealing with right now in this country is whether we are having a kind of bloodless, silent coup or not. … (George W. Bush) is trying to bring to himself all the power to become an emperor — to create Empire America,” a) Darth Vader, b) Satan, c) the Rev. Pat Robertson, d) Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash.

Lanny Davis, former special counsel to President Bill Clinton, campaigned for Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut. Lieberman, despite his reliably left-wing voting record, infuriated the left for supporting the Iraq War. Davis found himself on the receiving end of “hate and vitriol of bloggers on the liberal side of the aisle” and “their extremism, bigotry and intolerance.” A friend and fellow Lieberman supporter, said Davis, became “fearful for his physical safety.”

“I held on to the view,” Davis admitted, “that the left was inherently more tolerant and less hateful than the right. … I have reluctantly concluded that I was wrong. The far right does not have a monopoly on bigotry and hatred and sanctimony.”

The majority of Americans oppose ObamaCare. Their opposition is not racist, fascist or intolerant. Let us work to prevail. o_O

Looking For Title Of The Soundtrack Of Gnomeo And Juliet ? I am looking for the title of the soundtrack of Gnomeo and Juliet, at the scene where Gnomeo is standing on top of Shakespeare’s head. The song is so beautiful….
I’ve browsed through all the titles but cannot find the right one. Maybe because it’s instrumental and not listed as soundtrack.

What Is It Like To Work For Continental Airlines? Do you like working for Continental Airlines?
Are you familiar with their communications department?

Is the airline industry going to last a long time?

    View Comment
    1. Reply

I’ve worked for Continental for 23 years. Like ALL of the majors, we’ve had our challenges, including 2 bankruptcies, a major merger of 4 airlines in 1987, 9-11, etc. I have seen it’s ups and downs, and while the US airline industry as a whole is still reeling from the after shocks of 9-11, and the price of jet fuel is making all of our futures uncertain, Continental remains a favorite for our customers, and is consistently rated on top of all major US airlines. All of us here at CO hope that that continues. Pay, perks and bennies for employees at airline companies (and many other companies) have definitely been reduced…dramatically in some cases…since 2002. The industry as a whole will never be the same. That said, I wouldn’t trade all the triumph and turmoil I’ve enjoyed and endured for the past 23 years, for anything. Continental is a good company, and for the most part, and excellent employer. We’re a proud group, doing what we love and all that that involves.
I’m sorry to report that I have no information about our communications dept. You can find more information about Continental and employment opportunities with Continental, at…click on About Continental, then on Employment opportunities.
To answer the second part of your question…until another mode of transportation is invented that makes traveling easier and faster and cheaper, you can rest assured, the airline industry will be around.
      Good luck!

Hey kids, shake it loose together
      The spotlight’s hitting something
That’s been known to change the weather
We’ll kill the fatted calf tonight
      So stick around
      You’re gonna hear electric music
      Solid walls of sound

Say, candy and ronnie, have you seen them yet
But they’re so spaced out, bennie and the jets
Oh but they’re weird and they’re wonderful
      Oh bennie she’s really keen
She’s got electric boots a mohair suit
You know I read it in a magazine
      Bennie and the jets

Hey kids, plug into the faithless
      Maybe they’re blinded
      But bennie makes them ageless
We shall survive, let us take ourselves along
Where we fight our parents out in the streets
To find who’s right and who’s wrong

Song That Sounds Like Bennie And The Jets? Does anyone know of a song that sounds similar to “Bennie and the Jets” by Elton John?

It can be instrumental or maybe just have a pop style like Elton’s music does. I’m having difficulties gaining copyrights to it so if there’s an alternative you know of, I’d appreciate your feedback.

Benny And The Jets By Elton John? What does it all mean??

    View Comment
    1. Reply

“Bennie” was Bernie taupin’s fantasy of an imaginary rockstar performing with her band “the jets”. In 1973, it was the height of what was called in England “Glam Rock”, with bands such as Morc Bolan dn T Rex, David Bowie, Mott the Hoople, and even the NY Dolls all sporting androgynous male/female persona, dressed in wigs and sparkly, “spaced out” costumes (Ergo the line “Electric Boots, a mohair suit”). Elton’s shows were also heading in that direction, and “Bennie” was Taupin’s answer/observation to the whole trend. The song was sung from the perspective of an obsessed teenage fan talking to her friends.

The version on the album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and released as a single in 1974 ‘is’ the studio version. The applause was dubbed on afterwards to make it sound live. I’ve never heard the undubbed version and I don’t suppose it’s ever been released.

Elton John – Bennie And The Jets? I’ve wondered for a while now, what the phrase “Hey kids, plug into the faithless, maybe they’re blinded, but Bennie makes them ageless…” means in this song. Considering the meaning of the song, does anyone know what that phrase translates to?
