Where’s My Yacht?

A yacht in Lorient, Bretagne, France

While I was pedalling into work this morning, I was listening to the morning show on KBOI radio. The talk of the day was all about “free” cell phones and other government waste. Wow. I had no idea how stupid this phone program is. Really opened my eyes.

The original intent of the program was to provide lower income families with a phone for emergencies, and so that they could look for work or be contacted by potential employers or temporary job services. The program has actually been in existence for years (so much for the “Obama phone” jokes), and up until recently was not a real waste of time and money.

A Scratch Card Buffet

Scratch Ticket Buffet

Upon reading the information at Wikipedia, I was surprised to learn that Leonard Cohen wrote over 80 verses. The verses we’re familiar with are the ones he eventually settled on. The song must have set a record for “modern” songs as it is claimed to have been recorded by over 300 different artists (and climbing).

Although I haven’t listened to all of the recordings on YouTube, here’s a few of my favorites. Enjoy.

Damn That Global Warming

(YES SORRY FOR USING THIS ONE AGAIN) BUT IT WO...

We got a bunch of snow this winter, unlike the past few years. Of course, what we had was nothing compared to what they got on the Eastern Seaboard. So, I had to kinda wonder about this…

A famous climate scientist predicted that the Arctic would be ice-free in five years. Unfortunately for him, that was five years ago.

The Guardian published an article in August 2008 in which Professor Wieslaw Maslowski produced a forecast “which indicated that by 2013 there will be no ice in the Arctic, other than a few outcrops on islands near Greenland and Canada, between mid-July and mid-September.”
