How To Go About Starting Your Own Blog

How To Go About Starting Your Own Blog

by Guest Blogger

Gone are the days of scribbling on notepads and scrap pieces of paper. The age of the journal and locked diaries has long passed. In its stead is the technological substitute – the blog.
Originally, blogs were created as personal outlets for creative expression. They were supposed to be virtual works of art, however they have become increasingly mainstream with millions of blogs being set-up on a daily basis.

Furthermore, the blogging platform is now used as a means for smaller businesses to gain a following and earn money.
It is no crime to earn some extra cash while publishing your most intimate thoughts on the life of a grapefruit. In fact, the Google AdSense programme has become one of the most popular and most lucrative options which a blogger may access to earn money via their blog.

Other options include third party affiliate or CPA programmes.
Before you start seeing dollar signs, you must create your blog. The physical act is simple enough, but there is a great deal of planning which goes into developing a successful website.

Firstly, you need to decide what type of blog you will be maintaining. Will it be a personal one or a commercial one? This is important as each topic or niche has a certain writing style and physical presentation. A music blog cannot have cars as a background – it wouldn’t make sense.
To set up your blog you will need to have some technical knowledge of blogging platforms. However, if you are unsure as to how this all works, you don’t have to worry as there are many IT contractors available to hire on the Internet.

If you don’t want to hire someone to help you, the blogging platforms have some step-by-step guides for beginners. Also, doing some research on Google can be beneficialBlogging.
The most popular blogging platform is that of WordPress, although there are many available online. Most businesses and professional blogs use this base as it has more professionally designed themes, and has the option of website domain hosting using their platform.

In recent years, Tumblr has gained popularity among the youth as a personal blogging site. You can find many fansites and ‘gag sites’ on this platform.
Regardless of the site you choose to register with, there will always be the option of design themes. These themes are the background and style layout in which your blog will present itself on the internet.

All will have ready-made themes, some fancier than others, placed in different categories according to different niches. You may choose one of these themes, which can then be customised to suit your individual preferences, or you can go about creating your own theme.

However, to do this you will need some knowledge of HTML.
As may be seen, to acquire a blog is relatively simple. However, the posting and maintenance of the site is more complicated requiring more knowledge and hard work.

Once you have everything in order, it is an exciting means of self-expression.

This seem to be a great tutorial video on how to blog. I’ve been searching
off and on for this information for about 2 years. I do not have much
knowledge regarding the use of a computer. I thought about You Tube and it
looks like I final found what I’ve been looking for. Thanks.

I was told you could have several themes in one co herent blog that would
allow for flexibility in topics to cover without going too much all over
the place is this correct? I was hoping to avoid establishing and managing
    multiple blogs.

Thanks for the video, Eli. I learned a lot. The first computer class I
took back in the 70s was how to make punch cards to enter bits and bytes in
a crude programming system. I have a Blogger account but will see what
WordPress has to offer. Now, I’m less intimidated by the process. Thanks
    again. Cheers!

Straightforward but beware, May 6, 2013

This is a straightforward and no fluff book about setting up a WordPress blog. It is easy to read and follow, there are screenshots to guide you through the steps and I can imagine sitting at my desk in front of the computer screen, with my Kindle App open on my iPad and following the steps.

It is meant for beginners, as I suppose that persons already earning money with their blog(s) have already done this at least one if not more times.

Why I wrote “beware” in the title? If you don’t know what you are going to write about on your blog, you need first to define the subject of the blog i.e. the niche you are going to write about and understand who your target audience is. For that preparation you might need a lot of hours of thinking about your interests and combining it with the knowledge about the market, what is in demand, what are people searching for in Internet. And only then the rest, including this book, can follow.

Even with this book’s step by step approach you might still need much more than an hour. Because as a beginner one is usually unsure of many things, and is double checking things and getting used to new tool and information.

So overall – you will have a very good guidance with this book in setting up your blog if you have already defined the strategic issues of your blog.

This ebook wasn’t just a good read…it was an excellent way to interact with my new blog as I was setting it up. The resources listed were invaluable tools to help me continue with my blog as it grows and my knowledge for blogging grows. Thank you Mr. Scott for such a valuable resource and such a good read. This should be required reading for anyone who is interested in starting a blog with little to no experience with blogs.

Well written and easy to follow along for those who have spent a lifetime with computers and those that are just starting. This does what it promises; get your blog up and running and ready for your first published words. I missed that 5th star when I rated because I thought Steve Scott could’ve done just a little more to explain some of the pros and cons of the items he was recommending to give a little more insight to the reader for which plugins, etc. would really benefit a blog of one subject vs another. All-in-all, this free book explained things better than several others that were changing for their information and detailed everything that the title promised.
