Search Engine Spiders

Search Engine Spiders

Now that you have your blog up and running, you’d like some people to start reading it. Makes sense! This article will guide you through a few simple steps which will help you turn your blog into a more popular venue. As long as you keep reading, you should know what it takes to better your blog in no time.

Banner Ads

From day one, you should be optimizing your website for search engine spiders. Spiders are the tools search engines, like Google, use to find out what your site is about. They search out new content and then list it in their database. When someone searches for a site like yours, the search engine will decide how relevant to the query your site is based on its content. If your site is easy to navigate and includes lots of great content, it will appear at the top of the list of links the search engine provides to the searcher. The higher you are on the list, the more often your link will be clicked, and good search engine optimization techniques can get you there. Read more online about how to use this strategy.

Consider where you like to hang out online to discuss the same topic as your blog. These are the sites where you should be promoting your own blog, if the rules permit it. Be careful to read their FAQ before you post any links or else you might end up suspended. Obviously, you can post anything you want on Twitter along with your favorite hashtag, but even Facebook could suspend you if you end up spamming other people’s pages. If in doubt, ask whomever runs the site or page for permission before you post your link, even as a signature, on a forum post.

Business Purposes

Next you should consider which blogs you consider to be authorities on your topic. These are the blogs you should be exchanging links with. For example, you could link to each other in your side page with the link anchor text of the owner’s choice. The goes back to your search engine optimization research, so consider how you want to be linked to carefully. No one will search for “Bella’s Webkinz Blog”, but they will search out “webkinz cheat codes”, and if you provide those, that should be the anchor text for all links back to your site.

Engine

You should also trade guest posts with those successful blogs. The owners of those sites will want to be able to expose your audience to their content, and you can enjoy the same benefit when you post on their blog. It also creates back links which boost search engine optimization even further. Even if one blog owner says no, keep trying with other blogs.

Golden Opportunity

It is just that simple to make your blog more attractive to readers online. As long as you use these tips to help guide your promotional strategy, only good things should come your way. Take the time to do it right and great rewards will be forthcoming.

I do not use photobucket, so I cannot tell you where to secure your albums on that website. I do know however that anything you post to the web is not 100% secure. Some spiders to not adhere to the robot exclusion policies.

If you truly want security, close your blinds on your windows and delete your photos and videos from photobucket. This will secure your privacy to everyone, but big brother.

      Good Luck

      Here you go:

1.2000+ word articles on each webpage.
2.Youtube videos on website (Youtube is owned by Google) Place these videos at bottom of webpages so visitors do not click away to Youtube from your website.
      3.Links, links, links.
4.Regular updating of website helps greatly.
5.Buy a previously owned website with Page Rank 2+
6.Put sitemap links on everypage of website (at the bottom) so search engine spiders can find other webpages on your site easily.
7.Do not use dynamic pages – use static pages: as these get read faster by search engine spiders.
      8. Keep content interesting so visitors stay on site longer – this increase page rank.
Use light coloured pages (statistics show that visitors don’t like dark webpages), interesting pictures, interesting artcles etc.
      9. Download google toolbar to keep eye on pagerank and see if webpages are greybarred (if you don’t understand – look it up on internet)
      10. Links, links, links from websites that directly relate to your website.

Additional comments: Study Proflowers for “above the fold” content : It is the world’s highest conversion rate website (CRO)
Wikipedia ” below the fold” i.e lengthy articles
Build a WWW funnel towards most profitable webpages using blogger, wordpress, other freebie websites & links.
Make sure all images, audio & video have keywords in title so as to be spidered by Google videos, images.

You can place duplicate content across many websites; do not alter them though as Google will penalise you. This method is known as ? (I will add the word when I remember it)

      Useful website:
      http://www.conversion-rate-experts.com
      http://www.conversiondoctor.com/

Buy PLR’s (public label rights) cost $1-$10 approx and post them on webpages across your WWW funnel with links pointing to your most profitable webpages/home page.

This is probably the best, most valuable info you will get from a webmaster.

How Important Is It To Put A BLOG On The Top Level Of A DOMAIN In Terms Of Search Engine Optimization? How important is it to put a BLOG on the top level of a DOMAIN in terms of Search Engine Optimization?

    View Comment
    1. Reply

I’m guessing that you are asking whether your blog should be installed in the domain’s root directory (and have the blog’s home page be the same as the site’s home page) or if the blog should be installed in a subdirectory or subdomain (and have a link to the blog from the domain’s homepage–or from elsewhere on the site)

As far as SEO goes, it doesn’t really matter much whether the site is in the root directory or a subdirectory. Installing it in a subdomain is a different matter, though. At Metapilot, we tell clients that as long as you have links pointing to the blog from other areas of the domain (and from other domains of value), the blog will most likely get crawled and indexed by search engines. If your blog posts are well focused on keywords and phrases, the posts can show up in at the top of the search results, provided the posts have enough links pointing at them from other web pages of quality.

There are plenty of examples of sites with blogs installed in the root directory and in subirectories, as well as in subdomains. If the whole reason for having the domain is to have a blog on it, then you have every reason install it in the root directory. If the blog is not to be the main focus of the domain but the blog’s content is relevant to the main focus of the site but the information on it will be complementary to the rest of the site, why not install the blog in a subdirectory.

If the blog covers an entirely different topic than the primary purpose of the domain, install your blog on a subdomain. The search engines will treat the subdomain as an entirely different domain and though, from an SEO standpoint, it won’t directly benefit from the authority and popularity of your top level domain, its presence won’t confuse your visitors, either.

Guerilla Marketing & Search Engines? I started a design company specializing in wedding invites, baby announcements, and corporate design. My website is up (www.milesquaredesign.com) but it’s really not registering with yahoo or google. I have also put up some flyers in town and I also found some free internet advertising (like craigslist). I need more ideas to get the word out for my company that are cheap or free! All ideas welcome!!!

You need to optimize your site so the search engine spiders can read the content. Just from a first glance, I noticed that your entire site is build of images…you have no text or copy. This is a HUGE mistake. Spiders only pick up copy so they are not reading your site at all. You definitely need copy on your homepage, this is the first page a spider will go to.

There are so many more ways to optimize your website. I can’t explain them all here, and usually you need to pay someone to do this type of analysis. You can do it yourself though. Just read up on search engine optimization. This website is very helpful: http://searchenginewatch.com/.

Hopefully you own the rights to the code so you have the option of optimizing.

Also, if you have a marketing budget, spend money doing paid search. An integrated paid and organic search plan will bring you the best results. You don’t have to spend a lot with google or yahoo. Just do your research.

There are so many different ways to advertise that are effective and cheap, you just need to research and be creative.

But your website is very cool and your work is great. Good luck!

What’s The Difference Between Search Engine And SEO? Search engine optimization?

      Search engine optimization (SEO) :
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it “ranks,” the more searchers will visit that site. The leading search engines, Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft, use crawlers to find pages for their algorithmic search results.

      Search Engine :
A Web search engine is a search engine designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. Information may consist of web pages, images and other types of files. Some search engines also mine data available in newsbooks, databases, or open directories. Unlike Web directories, which are maintained by human editors, search engines operate algorithmically or are a mixture of algorithmic and human input.

Search engine optimization (SEO), a subset of search engine marketing, is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it “ranks,” the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

A typical Search Engine Results Page (SERP)As a marketing strategy for increasing a site’s relevancy, SEO considers how search algorithms work and what people search for. SEO efforts may involve a site’s coding, presentation, and structure, as well as fixing problems that could prevent search engine indexing programs from fully spidering a site. Other, more noticeable efforts may include adding unique content to a site, and making sure that the content is easily indexed by search engines and also appeals to human visitors.

The term SEO can also refer to “search engine optimizers,” a term adopted by an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients, and by employees who perform SEO services in-house. Search engine optimizers may offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a part of a broader marketing campaign. Because effective SEO may require changes to the HTML source code of a site, SEO tactics may be incorporated into web site development and design. The term “search engine friendly” may be used to describe web site designs, menus, content management systems and shopping carts that are easy to optimize.

How Do I Register My Website With All The Search Engines?

    View Comment
    1. Reply

Search engines find new sites with software which follows hyperlinks from site to site. These software are called crawlers (or spiders) and Google’s is called ‘Googlebot’, Yahoo’s is called ‘Slurp’ and MSN’s is called ‘MSNbot’.

Here are some recommendations that will help MSNBot and the other web crawlers effectively index and rank your site http://search.msn.com/docs/siteowner.aspx?t=SEARCH_WEBMASTER_REF_GuidelinesforOptimizingSite.htm

The best way to obtain links when you start a new site is from free good quality directories http://www.seo-blog.com/directory-links.php

You will find that some newbies will suggest that you submit your site to the search engine submission pages of the search engines. No professional SEO does that because it has not been necessary for years. Better to let the search engines find you naturally.

It does not take long. You could put a link here for example and you will be found by Slurp very quickly.

      How a search engines works:

      – it has something called a “spider” that takes a look at a web page, particularly for links to other page. Then it puts the web page into a database, and follows the other links.

      – it then does various stuff with the pages in the database so that they can be easily found.

      – then it allows people to search the database through its own web page.

The above is very simplified. A good first place to start if you want to build a search engine would be to do a college degree in computer engineering.

Building a search engine is also very expensive, because you need a LOT of computers and hard drive space to store as many pages as websites like Google or Yahoo do. I heard somewhere that Google has several *million* computers in order to make it all work. When they started out, an investor gave them a few million dollars to get going.

I just wanted to add: if you just need a search engine for your own website, do a search for “php search engine” or “search engine script”. There are lots of simple small ones out there. They don’t “scale up” to work like Google though – they’re just for your website.

How To Search Engine Spiders Generally Prioritize A Web Site???s Pages To Crawl? I.e. is it true that they target home pages first, those with the most back-links, etc.?

    View Comment
    1. Reply

I have seen nothing published about how the engines prioritize the pages of a website.

However, it would seem sensible that it is a combination of the number of links into a page and also the frequency of changes to the page, if a page changes daily for example then the engines would want to come back on a daily basis to read the new content. It is generally accepted that sites like the BBC here in the UK have pages that are spidered many times a day.

As far as good results goes though, it is not the frequency of spidering that counts – search for “office types” (no quotes) on Google and you will see my page at number one (out of 180 million results), this page is only spidered once every 7 to 10 days now but has stayed at number one for years.

Search engine optimization is the process of ensuring that a website (pages) ranks highly in the search engines when someone searches for specific phrases related to the site.

It is divided into two parts. Onpage optimization which includes all the things you can do to the site (page) itself, like selecting the title attribute, search engine friendly urls, keywords in text etc., etc. Offpage optimization which includes things like obtaining inbound links with appropriate anchor text.

    How Does Search Engine Works?

    View Comment
    1. Reply

The most common search engine type is the Crawler-Based Search Engines.

Crawler-based search engines, such as Google, create their listings automatically. They “crawl” or “spider” the web, then people search through what they have found.

If you change your web pages, crawler-based search engines eventually find these changes, and that can affect how you are listed. Page titles, body copy and other elements all play a role.

There are differences in the ways various search engines work, but they all perform three basic tasks:

      * They search the Internet — or select pieces of the Internet — based on important words.
      * They keep an index of the words they find, and where they find them.
      * They allow users to look for words or combinations of words found in that index.

Early search engines held an index of a few hundred thousand pages and documents, and received maybe one or two thousand inquiries each day. Today, a top search engine will index hundreds of millions of pages, and respond to tens of millions of queries per day.

How Often Do Search Engines Revisit Web Sites With Spiders And Adjust Key Words? I’ve changed the text on my welcome page in order to increase the chance of someone locating it using common key words but the search engines haven’t noticed the changes. The frequency and depth of crawl by the SE bots is a function of how important they consider the page (website) to be. For example a site that ranks in the top ten for very popular search terms might be visited at least every day but a site that ranks only for very uncompetitive terms might be visited only once a month. Normally the higher the PageRank value of the page the more frequent the visits.

Pandak is completely wrong about the Revisit META tag. There is such a tag but Search Engines take absolutely no notice of it whatsoever as anyone who has a website and looks in their server logs can tell you.

The closest you can get to controlling the behaviour of a search engine bot is with the Googlebot and Google SiteMaps https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitema
