Engine Optimization Techniques - What to Avoid

If you would like to know more about SEO – then you will want to read this article. It includes plenty of information about the subject that is sure to help you better understand the ins and outs that seem to confuse most people. It really does not have to be difficult to understand.

Search Engine Optimization Methods You Should Avoid

Business Reputation

How much do you know about search engine optimization? It is in your best interest to learn more on this topic so you can optimize your website. Go over this article to learn more about the search engine optimization techniques to avoid.

Delisting

Unethical methods can be tempting but your content will no longer appear in search results if you get caught using Black Hat search engine optimization techniques. These methods include hiding keywords on your pages, using false redirection URLs and link farms to draw traffic to your website. You should do more research on the techniques you want to use if you are not sure whether or not they are ethical.

Flash Content

Do not make search engine optimization your top priority. You should focus on creating quality content for your website so your visitors read through it and come back. Regardless of how efficient your search engine optimization campaign is, your site will not be successful if your content is not valuable. Update your website at least once a week and take the time to write quality articles on topics your audience wants to read about. You could also create a video blog or a Podcast if you are not comfortable with writing.

Flash Object

You should not share back-links by commenting on blogs or random message boards. It is best to share a small number SEOof back-links that will be noticed by the visitors you want to target. Contact webmasters who have a similar target audience and exchange links. You should also sent your articles to article directories, online encyclopedias and different online publications. Purchasing ad space is a good option if you use a service that will target your visitors. Use social media and launch your own message board to create your own back-links.

Image Tags

Do not place keywords within the text of your articles. Adding keywords to your articles will lower the quality of your content and your human readers will realize that you are writing for search engine optimization purposes. It is best to place your keywords in different tags so they efficiently describe your content. You should have some keywords in your title tags to describe a page, in your alt tags for your images and in your anchor text for your links. Use Google AdWords to choose popular keywords and remember that keyword trends can change over time.

Optimizing Your Website For Search Engines

You should not entirely rely on an XML sitemap to help search engine spiders find your pages. Organize your website so visitors can find all your pages easily. Connect all your pages through individual links and make sure you optimize your links with strong keywords. Create some site-wide links to help visitors find your main pages. Improve the organization of your site and update your XML sitemap when you add more content to your site.

Relevant Keywords

Avoid these search engine optimization methods and educate yourself about efficient strategies you can use to optimize your site. Remember that search engine optimization trends can change quickly and that you will have to update your campaign regularly.

Why Black Hat Seo Is Harmful For Sites?

    • Misuse of search engine optimization techniques may get your site blacklisted from a search engine. Some techniques that are considered spam are cloaking, invisible text, tiny text, identical pages, doorway pages, refresh tags, link farms, filling comment tags with keyword phrases only, keyword phrases in the author tag, keyword density too high, mirror pages and mirror sites etc. These are all termed as Black Hat SEO techniques. While these techniques might work to give you a higher ranking for a short time, however in the long run they will slow down your progress and can have detrimental and very damaging consequences.

My Site Is Under Malware Attack . Is My Search Ranking Be Affected? How it can affect my search engine ranking and what are the penalties I have to face from Google.

    • As per webmaster guideline nothing is mentioned as there was a decrease in the or huge drop of the ranking but what Google do just place an warning against your site that this may harm your computer as soon as you acknowledge webmaster that every thing is fixed it will reconsider your site and he founds every things fine then remove it’s warning. The factor’s which might effects are the penalties by Google

If not banned from the index, start looking for perceived penalties

Host Server is/was down or having problems during crawl, so pages are not indexed
Robots.txt is blocking the spiders from indexing your site
      Problems with crawlers
Domain name problems (DNS, CNAME, problems?)
Lost links causes ranking to drop
Rankings drop because other sites are better or have more links
Rankings drop because of a search engine algorithm shift

      Also:
Research your logs (site analytics) to find out if there is any unusual activity from a certain moment. If so, try to find out which changes you did before these significant changes.
Contact your host to find out if they are aware of any problems.
Check your competitor’s ranking to see if they have changed too.

If you still didn’t found any reason, then start to find actual (manual) penalties.
First check Google’s Webmaster Guidelines to see if any unethical practice is related to your site.
Read my Bad SEO Practice chapter and try to find out if you (or your Webmaster, or your SEO firm) have recently used one of the black hat techniques in this list.
Google doesn’t publicly acknowledge the existence of actual penalties (unless the reason was obvious or part of their guidelines), but we all know they exists. Therefore it is impossible to offer a hard-and-fast rule that can help you look for penalties.

Known (but not officially confirmed) Google penalties/filters:

      Google #6 (also called: -5) ranking penalty/filter
In December 2007 some Webmasters noticed that some of their long-term #1 and #2 ranking pages now rank at #6. Many other people experienced the same thing at the same time. Like many of the so called ‘numbered’ Google penalties (-30, -950), there is no science that can tell us what the exact reason was for this filter.

Aaron Wall (SEObook) has a great article about this filter, so if your site was hit by this filter I recommend you to read this.

      Google’s -30 penalty

The -30 penalty is a penalty given to websites that use unethical SEO techniques. It started somewhere in 2006. If Google applies this filter, the rankings of that website are downgraded by 30 positions.

Possible reasons for -30 penalty are:

      Guestbook spamming
      Javascript redirects
      Doorway pages
Any other unethical practice published on my Bad SEO Practice list.
People say that this penalty is time related, because it is only for little misdoings. The penalty can be active for about 30 days.

      Google’s -950 penalty/filter

This a penalty where a website suddenly drops to the end of the result pages. A loss of roughly 950 places.

This penalty is never confirmed by Google itself. The reason of this penalty is again guessing. When this penalty was discovered, some people were trying to get answers for this, embracing a sking Matt Cutts (Google’s SE Quality Manager) about this. You never get a straight answer, but one can say that this penalty has everything to do with “over-optimizing” a website. And over-optimizing your website has almost a direct relation with unethical SEO practice mentioned in my SEO don’ts list.

      Other known penalty filters
      Duplicated content filter
Bad linking filter (linking to bad neighborhood)
      Cross-linking penalty (site A–>B–>C–>A)
Excessive use of same (inbound) anchor text
      Excessive use of reciprocal linking
Thin affiliate site (many links to affiliates, hardly added value content)
      Keyword stuffing
      Over optimization penalty
      Hidden text or links penalty
Automated page redirects (meta refresh with 0 seconds)
      Link buying or selling penalty

Hi..can Someone Please Rate My Article On Off Page SEO? Please Rate From 1-10 With Criticism Etc…thank You!? Popular Techniques Used in Off Page Search Engine Optimization

In striving to achieve the strongest possible web presence, off page search engine optimization can be equally as important as using standard on page methods. Interestingly, webmasters continue to debate over which method brings more success. This is a brief discussion on the most popular off page SEO tactics which may be utilized for strengthening search engine rank.

    Links

In a nutshell???off page search optimization involves building inbound back links. In the eyes of a search engine, each link is regarded as a ???vote??? for your site. Thus, the more votes you accumulate, the better. However the all important factor here is the ???page rank??? of the sources that you are linking from. Therefore the key element within off page SEO is not so much how many votes you have, but who is voting for you.

    Techniques

It is good practice to build a wide variety of highly reputable links, using some of the following techniques:

Article Marketing is a very popular method as we live in an age of information, and people enjoy a good read. Ezine, Go Articles, and Buzzle are examples of such submission sites.

Blogs and Forums are important back link sources as they are updated regularly with fresh content, and so readers are inclined to check back on them frequently. Just search for sites related to your niche and post helpful entries with a link back to your website.

Social Media sites are red hot and are continuously on the rise. MPs now ???tweeting??? in British Parliament is testament to this. Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace are among the big guns.

Other techniques include Directory Submission, Social Bookmarking, Reciprocal Linking, Video Marketing, Pay Per Click campaigns, RSS Feeds, and Press Releases???to name a few.

    Strategy

A smart first step in any off page search engine optimization venture is to develop a list of reputable sources with the highest page rank (0-10) ??? with a view to linking from them.

The off page SEO link building process acts like a spider???s web, with your website at the centre. There is automated software and paid back link building services available, but these ???black hat??? methods should be avoided. A natural and organic strategy is more advisable, as search engine algorithms are becoming increasingly more intelligent. It is therefore preferable to befriend search engine indexing robots, rather than trying to deceive them.

    Good Luck!

What Is SEO? Search engined optimizer

    • Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results for targeted keywords. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it “ranks”, the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As a marketing strategy for increasing a site’s relevance, SEO considers how search algorithms work and what people search for. SEO efforts may involve a site’s coding, presentation, and structure, as well as fixing problems that could prevent search engine indexing programs from fully spidering a site. Other, more noticeable efforts may include adding unique content to a site, ensuring that content is easily indexed by search engine robots, and making the site more appealing to users. Another class of techniques, known as black hat SEO or spamdexing, use methods such as link farms and keyword stuffing that tend to harm search engine user experience. Search engines look for sites that employ these techniques and may remove them from their indexes.

The initialism “SEO” can also refer to “search engine optimizers”, a term adopted by an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients, and by employees who perform SEO services in-house. Search engine optimizers may offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a part of a broader marketing campaign. Because effective SEO may require changes to the HTML source code of a site, SEO tactics may be incorporated into web site development and design. The term “search engine friendly” may be used to describe web site designs, menus, content management systems and shopping carts that are easy to optimize.

Can Anyone Say What SEO Is? Is SEO necessary for a website?

I Have A Website Selling Giftware & Aromatherapy I Was Wondering How I Could Drive Customers To It. Any Ideas?

    • Hi,

Craigslist is just one arrow in your quiver of search marketing arrows.

SEO or search engine marketing (SEM) is critical for the success of your web site. Without it, you will get no traffic. No traffic = no customers = no money.

If you own a Web site, the Web site building software should have included SEO. Otherwise, using the software is a waste of time. SEO includes Internet marketing and while articles posting, etc. is important, the most important thing is to select the right keywords that people use to find your Web site. You need to do keyword analysis to find the best keywords for your Web site.

Then, you need to sprinkle those keywords onto your Web pages so that the search engines will find them as their spiders crawl your Web site as well as putting them in your Title, Keywords, headings and description.

Why? Think about how the major search engines work. They key on what word or phrases the users enter. How do you find keywords that users want? Use Google itself at this URL:

      https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Just enter your keyword and it will tell you what the demand is for that keyword and how much it would cost to advertise it on Google via Google AdWords.

Supply and demand is important for keywords. You want to find the keywords with a huge demand, but very little supply.

Another good keyword analyzer is Wordtracker.com. This will cost you money, but it’s the best on the Web.

This is a very good book for building traffic: Search Engine Optimzation – An Hour A Day by Jennifer Grappone and Gradiva Couzin.

With this book you do not need any costly SEO services.

There are Web site builders that do most of this SEO for you. Most free web site builders do not include SEO. That’s why most of them are a waste of time. Creating a Web site is easy, but it is only 10% of the job. The other 90% is SEO and it is critically important.

Do you know about Alexa rank? Alexa is an Amazon company that ranks Web sites. It takes the most active Web site which total about 65 million and compares your web site to all of them. Here is how to get to the Alexa Point Test:.http://traffic-test.sitesell.com/waltera1.html
If you have a rank under 500,000 you are doing good, it you are under 100,000 you are fantastic. Google is under 10.

The Web sites that score high on Alexa have lots of content. Content is king on the Internet. What is content? Its information, information that visitors find interesting and relevant to your keywords. The more pages you have on your Web site, the better. If you have only 5 or 6 pages, the search engines will ignore you. Once you get to about 30 pages, the search engines will begin to take notice. At that time you should begin to link to other Web sites. The search engines love links, but you must avoid link farms.

Trying to game the search engines is a thankless task. They have computer science PHds developing their search engine spiders. Do you think you can compete with them? Not likely.

Sneaky techniques are called “black hat” optimization. Won’t work. The SEs are changing constantly. You cannot find out what they do or how they do it. When someone finds a crack, they seal it up.

Linking is important. SEs love links.

Work hard to create more useful sites. Get great software for building web sites. One that does SEO for you.

The best way to get more traffic is to have lots of pages, 100s of them, thousands are better, with relevant content (information). SEs love quality content.

If you have the right Site Build it software, the software submits to search engines automatically.

How did you build your Web site? I hope it wasn’t one of those free web builder sites.

You see, there are lots of Web sites that will build a Web site for you. That’s where they end. Building a Web site as you probably know is only solving 5% of the puzzle. The other 95% is search engine optimization and internet marketing. Most Web Site Build It software will only do the first 5%, then they nickel and dime you to death with add-ons that purport to do SEO and internet marketing. Unfortunately most of them are scams.

So what is one to do if there is no help from your Web site building software. Do you know about NVU? This is a free web site builder that emuilates Microsofts Front Page and did I mention that it’s FREE. Go here to download: http://www.nvu.com/index.php

Get better software for Site Building. One that has some keyword analysis. Getting search engines to spider your Web site depends on your keyword selection.

Listen! The SEs find Web site by searching for keywords. If a Web site has the right keywords or phrases, the SEs will find it and send you to the front of the class.

But how do you know which keywords are the best. Ahhh! That’s the question and I will give you a web site that does keyword analysis and it’s free.

The Google AdWords Keyword Tool is an excellent preliminary brainstorming tool. Let’s say that you have ten ideas for a theme or Site Concept. This tool gives you a superb “high level snapshot” of how profitable each of your Site Concept possibilities might be. Here’s the URL: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal – remember, it’s free

how they got their website at the top of major search engines.

I beleive there are legit search engine ranking, search engine marketing, seo marketing,
seo techniques course out there and i wan’t to learn more about these course.

Please share your free knowledge or any information about SEO search engine ranking, search engine marketing,
seo marketing, seo techniques or any free information you may have. Thank you n advance!

    • There is white hat, black hat and something in between the two! Avoid black hat (paying for links). White hat is a bit slow to earn. Just keep learning, it takes months/years. Sorry I cannot tell you hard earned methods, but they are not obvious.
I would say start with good, basic SEO first. See what effect that has (should be quite good). Then it gets harder.Good content is most important – and I don’t mean loads of keywords, I mean ux. Write your content FOR your visitors, write something YOU would find interesting and you’re half way there.

Then validate your code – google w3c validator. VERY important.

Then get your description tags sorted also very important.

Then keep your page load quick – google website optimisation.

Then get on webmaster tools – submit a sitemap and check the HTML suggestions regularly – google will tell you if there’s anything it doesn’t like.
Do these things and I GUARANTEE you’ll see an increase.

It gets harder after this. Page structure – make sure things are in the right order – title, h1, h2, paragraphs. Put your important keywords near the top.

If you’ve done all this, google wordtracker – find the popular terms and track your positions – if you want to move up, make sure these terms are in your title tags etc.

Even harder – build some links (genuine ones) and use the keywords in the links.

Then keep repeating all these steps whilst adding content regularly.

How Long Does It Take To Get Out Of Google’s Sandbox?

    • No one can really tell. There are some that says it takes anywhere from 2 months to 1 year to get out of the sandbox. Some folks I know said their new sites got out of the sandbox in 9 months

Here’s what you need to do to be able to get out of the google sandbox as quickly as possible:

      - Start acquiring QUALITY links for your website – no buying of links, no exchanging links with sites not related to your topic, but links from the authority websites in your niche. The best way to do this is to create GREAT content that the big boys in your area would not hesitate to link to you

      - Make sure the site strictly follows white hat search engine optimization techniques — no black hat techniques such as keyword stuffing, doorway pages, etc

Search Engine Optimization Question? I am planning on starting up an e-commerce business with a Yahoo shop and I am currently looking at ways to optimize for number one spots within certain search terms. The problem I am running into is their seems to be so many black hat techniques out there that it is sometimes hard to recognize genuine honest ways to rank higher within a search engine. I recently watched a video course by Stompernet that was shot around 2005 and they could not promote reciprocal linking enough. They were adamant that this is the number one thing you can do to boost your PageRank and nothing else comes close. Well as I said this was shot in 2005 and three years is a long time in Google’s algorithm so does reciprocal linking still hold the key to search engine position or is there something new. If you could point me in the direction of where to find solid honest white hat PROVEN techniques to rank better in search engines I would be very grateful.

    • The following article offered by Google.com really works:

The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is
to first set up a website and publish its domain name
on major search directories such as Google.com,
      Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and
MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these
search directories to provide them with goods and
services. In a sense, these search directories are a
      very large Internet Yellow Pages.

Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage
fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using
such "generic" queries will not be able to discover
your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,
in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,
when observed and committed in designing of a website
with placement of various critical metatags that can
surely achieve a high search engine presence and
increase Internet traffic to your website. These
metatag strategies work well with published webpages
      at Google and Yahoo.

      Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google
and Yahoo and it begins with the “Title” metag which
should consist of no more than 65 characters separated
by commas. The “Title” should describe in generic
terms, the goods and services, followed by a location
from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.
The placement of a domain name which is not generic
within the “Title” is not appropriate, unless your
domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the “Description” which is
usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which
best describes one’s goods and services.

And the very last category – “Keywords” are also
somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural
and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
which could be mistaken as “spamdexed entries” which
is defined as the loading, and submission of
repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
“Spamdexing” when discovered on a webpage and reported
to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the
elimination of your website from their search
      directory.

Here’s an example of a very highly-placed website on
Google.com: Begin with the very “generic” search query
“sandwiches downtown los angeles,” taking note to not
abbreviate Los Angeles to “LA” and of course, leave
out the parentheses (“). It will bring up some 427,000+ search results. Check out where “Nazos.net”
is ranked. It’s ranked no. 1!
Again, Nazos.net’s high web presence was achieved by
proper web design and placement of relevant metatags
      according to Google’s publication guidelines.

      Good luck!
