What Is The Best Way To Increase Traffic To Your Blog?

    • ===========================================
      Getting Traffic on your Blog/Website
      ===========================================
      1. The fact is that best of the traffic comes from search engines directly by searching your blog related terms, so the most important part of your advertisement must be getting listed in search engines. But remember only major search engines, don’t bother about submitting in 350,000 search engines as 99% searches are made in top 3 search engines only and 60% in Google only. Also if you waste your time submitting your content in many search engines, it may depress your favourability in top search engines.
(Best way to automatically include your stuff is using directories, see step 2)( See resources list ).

      2. List your blogs or websites in relevant directories in most relevant category. Directories are good source of traffic as well as they increase the visibility of your website for top search engines. But again don’t bother to submit your websites to 1000s of directories and don’t use any service ( free or paid ) or any software which does the same thing. ( See resources list ).

      3. Use Pay Per Click advertising. It is best hassle free way to get traffic but not for beginners. An expert draws maximum Targetted visitors out of low budget while newbies may waste a lot of money for generating useless traffic only which doesn’t make any good to your business. Before trying PPC make your you have done enough “Keyword Analysis” Search Google for Adwords Keyword Analysis. ( See resources list ).Google’s Adwords and Yahoo’s Search Engine Marketing & MSN’s Adcenter are best programs. Search for Discount coupons if you find none for free contact me.( See resources list ).

      4. Purchase paid reviews, It improves both Traffic & Search Engine ranks. It almost boost your search engine rankings. ( See resources list ).

      5. Submit your business in free classifieds like Craigslist. ( See resources list ).

      6. Hire an SEO ( Search Engine Optimization ) expert or learn by yourself how to optimize your website to get better ranking in search results for your blog related terms. getting into first page is necessary as 90% of searchers don’t go beyond first page, and 70% don’t go beyond first five results.

      7. Make your blog a brand. Use catchy graphics fast loading pages, beautiful banners. let your visitor feel to bookmark your website so that he may come ( or probably purchase later )

      8. Use Social bookmarking websites to spread your articles. periodically write useful and fresh articles and make them popular in interested people. it will improve all brand, traffic, customers and search engine positions. ( See resources list ).

      9. Always write fresh articles most blogging websites have an automatic Ping method which notifies about your new posts to search engines. So keep posting being stick to your Blog’s theme. Means don’t post cricket news on your blog related to mobile models.

      10. Last but not the least. Never try black hat methods you will get black listed and will loose potential search traffic instantaneously. Never try anything which says improve your search engine rank very fast or very high. remember always that anything which seems too good to be true is never true.

What Is More Important Incoming Links Or Just SEO? I work for a small non profit and we are trying to gain ranks in search engines. From the SEO firms we shopped around some tell me that the page just needs optimization and some maintenance and one firm tells me that the page is optimized enough and what I really need is a lot of incoming links to gain ranks.

What is the best route to take? What is the mos effective way?
The incoming links would be coming from articles, so says the SEO firm encouraging the links

    • On page SEO is just as important, if not more so, as off page SEO.

Off page SEO is simply backlinks, however, the method of obtaining those backlinks vary and can be incredibly beneficially if done properly and can hurt you in the worst way (by having your site deindexed) if done improperly. You can encourage backlinks without being black hat or grey hat (I hope you’re familiar with these terms.)

It is untrue that ONLY on page SEO is approved by search engines. However, it is true that you should know what the SEO company promoting backlinks is trying to get you into. What type of links do they build? Where are the links placed, get a report of every backlink they’ve placed. If they are article marketing, ask which directories they submit to and who is generating the content and how the content will be relevant to your niche.

There’s nothing wrong with article marketing and article marketing through directories can help with SEO but doesn’t get you in front of an audience. There are ways of generating backlinks that will do both.

Do you know where your natural, organic traffic is coming from presently? If not, install google analytics and monitor that for a week to get an understanding of how people are finding your site. This can also be found in awstats which is located in most hosting company cpanels.

The first step you want to take in getting more traffic is to optimize your on page SEO by optimizing your site for keywords most relevant to your non-profit niche.

Ask yourself and your coworkers this question: What would someone type into google to find your service? Those are the keywords you want to optimize for.

Once you’re optimized and getting natural traffic, consult your analytics to find more keywords you’re being found for and continue to optimize for those.

Then begin your backlinking campaign with a company that specializes in white hat methods and has signed the SEO pledge to first do not harm.

      I hope this was helpful.

Also are the purpose are SEM only for larger corporations since they have all the money to spend.

sem refers to search engine marketing it is paid form of seo . u have to first deposit money to google to show ur listing.

What Determines Where A Site Comes Up On A Google Search? I made a website selling health supplements last week, it’s registered with google and the domain name is registered. It comes up on the side advertisements when certain words are searched for but that’s b/c I made a google adwords account. How can I get it to come up in the actual search results? What about the first page?

    • Your answer is summed up in the three magic letters every webmaster strives for SEO.

SEO is search engine optimization. I other words, what can you do to bring your site to the forward most pages of a web search. There are obviously many web services that will charge for this, but many you can do yourself.

There are good, white hat and bad black hat strategies. Using a black hat strategy will make things worse or ban you al together.

Google has a secret algorithm that it does not share. But common knowledge would have this it is a combination of your URL, keywords, content and back links coming into your website.

Your key strategy is to break down those 4 and make them the best you can. But keeping in mind that it is for the audience you are designing for, not search engines.

The first thing is keyword analysis. Then make sure you have relevant and unique content. After that directory submissions. You will then be off to a good start.

      Good Luck with your SEO!

What Are Tips To Help My Website Come Up In The First Few Pages Of A Search Engine? My website is creativeforgings.net , I have heard about optimizing?, but I dont know what all this stuff means, I am a blacksmith artist not a website specialist and it seems like every time I pay to get stuff done….I feel like I being robbed!

    • At its most basic, the steps for SEO are:

      1) Keyword research – find relevant keywords for your site and those that will create targeted traffic. A good mix of competitive and niche keywords will help you short and long term.

      2) Accessibility – make sure your site is accessible. Good navigation is essential to ensure search engines can index every page and also to ensure visitors can navigate properly to relevant pages.

      3) On page optimisation – content needs to include the main keywords for that page, as well as topically or semantically related keywords. Alt tags, Title tags, and description tags can also include keywords but not unnecessarily.

      4) Off page optimisation – essentially, this means building links (HTML links with relevant keywords used as anchor text) for each of your pages and it needs to be an ongoing process. Link building can be done through a combination of techniques like social media marketing, article marketing, and directory submissions.

      5) Be ethical – don’t use black hat (unethical) methods or you face the very real risk of seeing your pages and site being penalised by the search engines.

      6) Keep it up – SEO is not short term and you shouldn’t expect immediate results. Keep up the hard work, add new content, develop new links. Begin again and again.

ANy Tips For Search Engine Optimization? Does meta data matter for search results in search engines?
where is the best place to put meta data?

What the best structure for metadata?

ANy tips for search engine optimization?

    • Meta data is only used by search engine spiders. It appears above the HTML code that forms the underpinnings of your site’s presentation layer.

Meta data includes such things as your site’s name, URL and key word tag. Once the most important factor in search engine results, keyword tags in meta data don’t have the weight they once did.

      SEO tips:

      1. submit your site map to Google and Yahoo. This provides spiders with a set of directions and “personal” invitation.

      2. Add HTML title tags to each page. Each tag becomes a Google listing, thus providing many more site access points. That’s why, if I search “Harry Potter” on Google, one listing on the first search engine results page (SERPs) will be for Amazon. If I click on it, I’m taken directly to the Harry Potter page rather than coming through Amazon’s front door.

      3. Even though meta data stays the same from site page to site page, add it to every page. SE bots are none-too-bright.

      4. Avoid keyword stuffing. 2-3% is good. Anything over 5% starts to sound like gibberish.

      5. Use embedded text links in the main texts of your site. Search engine spiders follow links, so if you give them a lot of links within your site, spiders stay longer, index more and provide a more accurate picture of your site.

      6. Use your HTML description tag to appeal to humans, not spiders. The description tag content appears directly under the blue link for your site on SERPs.

      7. Avoid anything that even hints at black hat tactics, i.e. no invisible text, title tags match page data, keyword density of less than 5% in main text; 50% in headers.

      8. Place keywords in headlines, underlined, bolded or italic text.

      9. Focus on your top five keywords and phrases at first. Then, gradually expand your list.

      10. Finally, visit Google’s webmaster central. This search engine runs the web world so you might as well do exactly what the Googlistas want, and they tell you what’s legal (and good) and what isn’t regarding SEO.

      Good luck with your site,

What Is Search Engine Optimization? I am a layman, please make me understand in simple language.

    • SEO describes any actions taken to try to improve a web site’s search engine ranking.

For example, if my web site is Widgets.com and I want people to see my web site when they search on Google for “widgets,” then I would try to optimize my site for that keyword.

Optimization can include a variety of internal actions, such as including desired keywords in the page title, meta-tags, page headings, and body text.

Since “optimizing” a web page for a specific keyword will usually reduce that page’s ranking for other keywords, SEO also includes creation of separate “landing pages” optimized for specific keywords and keyword variations (for example, I might create a separate page optimized for the phrase “blue widgets” and another for “widget cleaners,” and if widgets are used in making fromitzes, I would probably create a page optimized for “fromitz”).

There are also some “external” strategies, such as requesting links from other web sites (the link text, number of links, and quality of inbound links are all considered to some extent by Google in determining a site’s ranking for a keyword). Most of these strategies seek to improve a site’s “Google PageRank.”

Note that many search engine optimization techniques are considered “unethical” or “inappropriate” by Google and other search engines. For example, paying other sites for links, or “stuffing” keywords excessively on a page, can result in complete exclusion (“blacklisting”) of your web site. These are often called “black hat” techniques, although the people who do them try to persuade clients that they are “gray hat” strategies.

As the first response here notes, there are many firms that will seek your money to help you improve your site’s search engine rankings. Many of them are honest, respectable people and agencies; unfortunately, a huge number are unethical, incompetent, and/or dishonest.

Does Search Engine Optimization Last? I’ve been applying SEO to my website for more than 1 month now but I am not sure whether this will last for long. Anyone have an idea?

    • White hat seo lasts…
Google tries to close the door on black hat seo…

Some things that were permitted under white hat seo sometimes loose their effect, things like circle or wheel sites no longer help you, but accurate alt tags and an informative page aren’t going to loose their effectiveness.

Getting backlinks, and linking out to relevant subject material is always going to help you, and if you stop adding content, you will slip in pr, and google will give your search position to an up and comer who has better content on the page…

But… if you have quality content, that is going to trump what anyone else does with seo if they have poor quality content….

I Saw A Job Opening Titled “search Engine Optimization.” What Are The Qualifications For Such A Job? I am a recent journalism graduate with significant reporting experience. Can I play up my research skills?

    • A search engine optimization expert basically helps clients understands how search engines work and get their websites to the top of the search engines. Basically you need to be able to:

      – Keep track of what’s happening with the search engines, including movements in datacenters or changing algorithms or new methodology (often from new patents granted) to rank web sites
      – Know how each of the search engine works and what the different ones, especially the big three (Google, Yahoo and MSN) require for a site to get good rankings
      – Understand the factors that can propel a site to the top of the search engines without resorting to black hat techniques (eg. doorway pages, excessive keywords, etc) that can result to the banning of the site
      – Know the process how to make a site banned by a search engine and delisted in their index to return to the SEs database
      – Know the latest tools available to help optimize a site from creating a Google sitemap to determining the right keywords of the site
      – Understand both organic and paid search engine rankings, and know how to do both
      – Manage and handle pay per click campaigns of the clients in the search engines, from determining the keywords, tracking conversions to keeping track of the costs

Research skills can be useful in terms of finding out ways how search engines work. But there are many forums and blogs where other webmasters and employees of these search engines gather that you simply go to these places to learn (e.g. SearchEngineWatch.com, WebmasterWorld, Matt Cutts blog, etc) that you don’t need any research skills at all.

Understanding and knowledge of programming is essential — e.g. managing .htaccess files, how to do 403 redirects, how to ensure dynamic URLs are accessible to the search engines. Many also help their clients plan and create content and analyze the usability of their websites to ensure better search engine access.

If you are interested in this field, I suggest you start going and reading up various forums at WebmasterWorld.com http://www.webmasterworld.com to understand the mechanics and dynamics of search engines. SEs constantly evolve so SEO experts need to be able to dissect and analyze the new changes in ranking websites and how their clients can benefit from these changes.

What Is Search Engine Optimization? I know it means Search Engine Optimization, but what does the term actually mean and refer to? Can someone explain it to me?

    • SEO is marketing your website using techniques designed to help search engines understand what your site is about to asist in helping rank yuor site for keywords people search for. There are a set of techniques that search engines approve of (called white hat SEO), and a set of technique that they disapprove of (called Black Hat SEO). If you do Blackhat SEO, eventually your site will be punished, if you do white hat SEO, usually you will be fine.

Additionally, there is on-page SEO, and off page SEO. On page SEO is the technical aspect of setting up your page so the search engine can figure out what it is about. This involves giving the proper information to the search engines by placing it in the places search engines will look. When people talk about meta tags, and headings, this is what they are referring to.

Off page SEO is the reaction of the web to your website. You are allowed to market your website by building links, and some people who find your site will also link to it. But if you start building a lot of links that don’t look natural to the search engines, then you can be punished for it.

Off page SEO also covers social media, maps optimization, and creating a buzz about your website on the web. On page SEO is a set it and forget it deal. Off page SEO is a continual battle, because everyone who you are trying to beat is trying to beat you.

Why Black Hat Seo Is Harmful For Sites?

    • Misuse of search engine optimization techniques may get your site blacklisted from a search engine. Some techniques that are considered spam are cloaking, invisible text, tiny text, identical pages, doorway pages, refresh tags, link farms, filling comment tags with keyword phrases only, keyword phrases in the author tag, keyword density too high, mirror pages and mirror sites etc. These are all termed as Black Hat SEO techniques. While these techniques might work to give you a higher ranking for a short time, however in the long run they will slow down your progress and can have detrimental and very damaging consequences.
