Savvy Internet User

Savvy Internet User

Everyone seems to use the internet today for everything from shopping for groceries to investing their money. If you want them to use your website as well, you need to create content which is engaging and a look which satisfies their needs. This article will tell you how to create an engaging website so that it can find great success.

Average Person

The first step is to identify who your target audience is. That is the average person who will be buying what you are selling online. Even if you are just offering ad-supported content, you have to determine who your reader will be. If you can figure out as much about them as you can through market research, you can design your website to meet their needs, for example, larger fonts for seniors or interactive games for kids.

Dark Colors

As you begin to design your site, be sure that it is easy to navigate. That doesn’t just mean for a savvy internet user, but also for novices, those who have a small screen because they are on a mobile device, and even people with disabilities. If you can create an online experience which appeals to everyone and anyone, you will be able to boost your revenue from the site thanks to increases in visitor numbers.

Experienc

Including videos on your website which are hosted on YouTube allows you to have the content right on your own Web Designdomain, but it can also be shared easily with others. You can create how-tos, funny content or even videos of your customers giving testimonials. The more interesting the video is, the more likely it is to be shared with others. People who view it will remember the name of your site and might even drop by to visit.

Fonts

Try to make your site as eye-friendly as possible. That means choosing dark colors on a light background, which has been scientifically proven to be the easiest to read, as well as avoiding graphics which flash in an irritating manner. Keep the fonts at a large enough size to be easily read as well, and don’t put huge blocks of text on any one page. Include graphics throughout to make the experience an attractive one.

Games For Kids

Always test out your website before you publicize it. Get your friends and family in on it so you can quickly get every section tested. That means clicking every single link on a page, looking for broken images and searching out typos. They should test your mailing list, social media links, literally everything a user might use to get around or off your site. Your site shouldn’t go live until it has been tested from top to bottom.

Groceries

Once you have a fun and engaging website built, you will be able to build it to great popularity. If you use the tips in this article, you shouldn’t have any problems at all. All it takes is some determination, drive and knowledge to create an amazing website you can be proud of.

    How Do You Erase All History From Your Hard Drive? I have an HP laptop and I am getting rid of it so I want to completely erase all history from the hard drive (I have my bank account online and other personal sites). I have already cleared the Internet history but I know there are other ways to get to the history? Im not computer savvy so your help would be greatly appreciated!

    • Reformatting and reinstalling Windows will do the job for your purpose…
      Just use your disk that came with your computer (or use the recovery partition).

      It won’t be ‘forensically clean’, but no normal user will be able to retrieve anything.

      BTW, as much as I use and recommend CCleaner, it won’t do what you want here.

      Yes, it can wipe your drives clean – but not your system drive !

      Edit:
      I just re-read the first answer, and he’s *terribly* wrong!
      Formatting the hard drive most certainly DOES permanently delete your files…

      … at least for our purposes – of course someone can spend lots of time and money to recover what was on there, but do you *really* think that the person you are selling your computer to is going to go to that trouble? If that’s the case, slap a brand new hard drive in there and drill the old one full of holes, have it run over by a train, and then get it melted ;-)

    Ok, Guess I’m Not That Computer Savvy ….? So, can someone explain to me (in a non-geek method) just what is a ‘Troll’ ??? Thanks!

    • In Internet terminology, a troll is someone who intentionally posts derogatory or otherwise inflammatory messages about sensitive topics in an established online community such as an online discussion forum to bait users into responding. They may also plant images and data on networks that others may find disturbing (usually indirectly relating to the individual in person) in order to cause confrontation.

    Internet Savvy People, Is My Boyfriend Peeping Around On The Web? Long story short…I’ve had some issues with my bf and internet porn.
    I’m semi internet savvy and went to check his cookies just now on my laptop (which he uses for work) and noticed Adultfriendfinder.com was listed. I use Firefox in case anyone is wondering and I can distinctively tell 2 different types of cookies from ads, etc…and sites listed that he has definitely gone to. Just to double check I switched users over to mine and noticed the same pattern. So my question is….Do you moderate to advanced users think that he did visit this site?

    Here’s what the cookie displays:
    In the Adultfriendfinder.com folder were 2 pages

    Adultfriendfinder.com ffadult_tr
    Adultfriendfinder.com HISTORY

    Mucho thanks in advance!

    • Nope, that doesn’t necessarily mean porn. Adultfriendfinder cookies, I believe, come also from websites that have the Adultfriendfinder advertisement banners (something along the lines of “Find Local Singles”, etc). These are some of the most common types of advertisements on the internet, so I don’t think you have to worry.

    How Can I Keep Employees Off The Internet On The Office Computer? We have a computer in the office at work but i dont want my employees using the internet. Is there a way i can put a password on the internet??
    I have a HP laptop w/ windows 7

    • 1. Go to Internet Options in the Control Panel. Go to the Connections tab and click LAN settings. Uncheck “Automatically detect settings” and then check “Use proxy server” and put settings in for a proxy server that doesn’t exist. This will time out the Web browser each time a user tries to pull up an Internet site. Unfortunately, a savvy user could go into the settings and fix this.
      2. Alternatively, you can set the Internet router to deny all port 80 traffic to the WAN from the IP address of the client PC you want to block. This is something that the user is less likely to figure out, and it will effectively block that one PC from Web access, while still allowing all over LAN users full access to the Internet.”

      TechRepublic member brian added another option:

      “Go to:

      * TCP/IP Properties
      * Advanced
      * Options
      * TCP/IP filtering Properties
      * Select Enable TCP/IP filtering (All adapters)
      * Select Permit Only for all three selections (TCP, UDP, IP)
      * Add only the allowed ports that are needed (leaving out port 80 for Web browser traffic)
      * Click OK multiple times to close out the windows

      These settings could also be set in a Group Policy GPO so that the user can’t change them. You would make a special group just for this user.”
