Search Engine Optimization Strategy

Search Engine Optimization Strategy

The best way to be successful is to avoid the mistakes of your predecessors. That means learning all you can from them and about the errors they have made. This article provides you with some hurdles they have faced and how you can avoid them yourself. The more you know, the better a web designer you will become.

Bullet Points

Content which is hard to digest won’t work. You have to have smaller chunks of text which is easy to scan through. Visitors won’t necessarily be focused on what they are doing, so they have to be able to quickly get the gist of what you are trying to say before they dedicate themselves to reading the content in full. This means using lists, headings and bullet points to get your message across quickly and easily.

Link text which is confusing or irrelevant won’t help your search engine optimization strategy, nor will it help readers to click through to other pages. Most people will link not thinking of how the text they use impacts their site. For example, linking from “click here” is always a horrible mistake. It doesn’t tell the reader what they are clicking through to, and Google won’t know how to categorize the page it lands on. Instead, use descriptive text like, “handmade bracelets from Brazil” or “how to build a birdhouse” for super SEO and reader understanding.

Descriptive Text

HTML tables are old and no longer relevant. Instead, you should be using CSS to move your text around the page. You can do everything from creating borders, even with rounded corners, padding space around the text and coloring in the background. CSS works in all browsers in the same way, while tables can be mixed up or even broken by some platforms. CSS is also fast and completely reliable.

Complex navigation only leads to people leaving your website. The simpler your navigation set-up is, the happier your readers will be. Think that less is going to do more for your site. Give the reader less than seven main menu headings, and then include sub-menus if you need to have more links available. Your menus should be repeated on every page in the same place and in the same style. Don’t leave your visitors confused by changing the layout on every page.

Badges don’t mean anything to anyone anymore. Once upon a time, they let the world know your site was safe to surf, part of a network or endorsed by other websites. Today, no one cares about badges Web Designand most will just ignore them. They suck up your bandwidth, make your site load slow and offer nothing of value to the reader. Unless your badge is from a reputable security company, skip it completely.

Handmade Bracelets

Becoming an excellent web designer means you have to pay attention to both good and bad strategies. If you understand the mistakes of others, you won’t make them yourself. Use this article to learn all you can and be sure that you are on the right path towards success.

What Is Your Reason For A Website Redesign? I’ve been reading this article from Gerry Mcgovern with a heading ‘Web redesign is bad strategy’.

My reasons for a website redesign is to respond from customer feedback about the site, reviews from usability experts, company rebranding and make the site visually appealing.

Another would be to make a site SEO friendly. Search Engine Optimisation is more than just ‘keywords’ and ‘descriptions’ but contents. Search engines cant read Flash pages and images needs ‘alt’ tags.

What is your reason for a website redesign?

    • Well, having just re-designed a few sites, I have to disagree entirely with Gerry’s article. I assume he was paid to spout all that mis-information and really he doesnt seem to have the slightest grasp about what is good or bad for anything.

Notice if you will that one third of his post is consumed (padded) by his simple analogy of the Jones family, which was at best weak and I struggled to find any real similarity between cats peeing in the wrong place and efficiently managing a website …..anyone else share that thought?

His view that most websites are re-designed as they have fallen into disrepair is just wrong!
Most websites are re-designed as the marketing departments of the company go through a re-branding exercise or a promotional strategy change and, quality of your web presence is the obvious place to make the first changes when you implement the new strategies.

From this stems the need to stay abreast of new technologies and embrace them where they will work for your organisation. Dynamic HTML, SEO, CSS are all examples of progressive technologies and all make good reasons to re-design.

Sure you can post “good quality content” in a plain old html page but if it doesnt look exciting then people wont read it.

It seems that if Gerry had his way, we would all still be reading text web pages…….you just have to move with the times….again, anyone with me there?

Hmm, turned into a bit of a rant there……hope you enjoy :)

What Exactly Is Search Engine Optimisation And What Is The Job Of SEO?

    • Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is getting the website into the Free/Organic listings of search engines.SEO has been there since the beginning of the Internet. The primary advantage of SEO is that it can be done entirely free, without any cash outlay.

The Job of an SEO is to make the website reach the listings and achive a good page rank through many factors like link popularity, page rank, improving content(i,e) making rich content wrt to search engines.

SEO specialists would have to "guess" and adapt to ever-changing strategies and tactics to either maintain their positions or improve their rank. One month could mean you're out of the top ten with no warning.

SEO is slower in terms of ranking your site on a lot of chosen keywords. You would have to make numerous link requests, multiple pages, press release, etc. Also, it takes a lot more time for search engines to index new sites' domain names (it can take months).

Any Affordable Search Engine Optimization Systems For Small Business? Have a small law firm. How do I optimize my web site?
I thank you in advance for you answers

    • You may want to consider some simple algorithms which, when observed and committed in designing of a website with placement of various critical metatags that can surely achieve a high search engine presence and increase Internet traffic to your website. These metatag strategies work well with published webpages at Google and Yahoo.

Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based website, make sure to fill-in the property entries such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the Internet audience and their incoming setup. For example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages take too long to load up and therefore analog users will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple question, “Who’s my end user – is he on dialup or DSL?” And if you had to choose between these two users for maximum marketability, then select analog users since 80% of most resident users are still analog Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages is best for them.

A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text, is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.

Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots are unable to properly classify textual material.

      Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google and Yahoo and it begins with the “Title” metag which should consist of no more than 65 characters separated by commas. The “Title” should describe in generic terms, the goods and services, followed by a location from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state. The placement of a domain name which is not generic within the “Title” is not appropriate, unless your domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the “Description” which is usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which best describes one’s goods and services.

And the very last category – “Keywords” are also somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries which could be mistaken as “spamdexed entries” which is defined as the loading, and submission of repetitive words into a particular metatag category. “Spamdexing” when discovered on a webpage and reported to Google’s can result in the elimination of your website from their search directory.

Here’s an example of a very highly-placed website on Begin with the search query “pizza downtown los angeles.” It will bring up some 1.4 million+ websites as results. Check out where “Pizza Next Door” is ranked. It’s in the Top Five! Again, Pizza Next Door’s high web presence was achieved by proper web design and placement of relevant metatags according to Yahoo’s publication guidelines.

      Good luck!

Search Engine Optimization? If 100 SEO companies offer optimization service to 1000 companies selling the same “super widget”, isn’t it logically impossible for them to guarantee (or even ALMOST guarantee) that your “super widget” company can get ranked on the first page of Google for the keyword “super widget” and simultaneously give the exact same guarantee to the other 999 as well?

    • The answer to your question is yes it is “logically impossible for them to guarantee (or even ALMOST guarantee) that your “super widget” company can get ranked on the first page of Google for the keyword “super widget” and simultaneously give the exact same guarantee to the other 999 as well”?

However only the poor quality SEO companies and the scammers will give a guarantee. The professional SEO knows that you can only guarantee that over which you have complete control. Of course no one has any control over the search engine algorithms except the search companies themselves. Since they change/modify their algorithms regularly no one can guarantee where a site will appear for a competitive search term.

Good professional SEOs don’t waste their time looking for clients either because they have more clients than they can handle and several money making sites (normally affiliate sites) of their own to look after.

If you need a good SEO I would suggest that you start by looking here and here Draw up a list of (say 10 – 15) companies whose web presence and spectrum of services meet with your approval. Then make a simple initial approach to these companies and reduce to a short list (3-5) based on the quality of their response and their understanding of your requirements. Interview the companies on your shortlist and include the following questions in your interrogation:

      1. Ask for 5+ references and current clients and make sure you follow them all up. When speaking with the referees if you are not entirely happy ask for another 5+ references.

      2. What type of reporting will they provide?

      3. Do they offer Return On Investment (ROI) analysis? (You want a YES here!)

      4. Can they assure you that the optimization strategies and methods used will be ethical and hence guarantee no penalties for your website?

      5. Do they place a link on their clients sites to their site? (You want a NO here!)

      6. Ask to see a sample contract. Check that it says ‘what is’ and ‘what isn’t’ required on the clients part and details what they say they will do.

      7. How many hours will they put into working on your site?

      8. Make sure you will not be ‘ransomed’ if you decide not to use them any more at some stage.

      9. Do they outsource any of the work?

      10. What results can you expect and over what time scales?

Hope that helps to answer you question a little more fully.

    What Is Search Engine Optimizatin?

    • Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a group of tactics and strategies to help you rank higher on the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) so that you can get more visitors to your website. Page One of Google is usually the main place you want to be for keywords (search terms) that people are looking for when they seek information or products you are providing.

There are two main elements to SEO: On-page SEO and Off-page SEO.

On-page SEO refers to the things you have direct control over on your site: domain name, page content, images, videos, meta data, ALT tags, title tags, H-tags, keyword density and much more.

Off-page SEO is mostly link building and social sharing.

Link building refers to getting links from other sites that connect to your site. But be careful, not all links are equal.

Social sharing involves sharing your site across social networks, social bookmarking sites and more.

Both elements are important but the importance of different parts of those elements changes frequently as Google and the other search engines change their search algorithms.

Participation’s in Forums and Google Group discussions
Important News, Classifieds, Yellow Pages Submission services
    Social networking and bookmarking services

if i am missing anything in this flow ?

    • Here is a Basic SEO Workflow that works

      1. Initial project planning: Meet with an SEO expert. Pay them for their time. Have them map out when and how the SEO team should be involved in development.
      2. Information architecture: Before you create your new site map, pick your keywords and verify that they matter. Organize your keywords into topics. Be sure your architecture reflects this. Remember, this isn’t just how search engines see your site. It’s how people look for you, too.
      3. Tools selection: If you’re using a shopping cart, content management system or something else, make sure they support SEO. And no, I don’t mean “SEO friendly URLs” or other trite sales speak you’ll hear. I mean that these tools support unique title tags, correct semantic markup and won’t turn your web site into a pile of search-repellent spaghetti.
      4. Content: Let the expert help you structure and write great copy that’ll also get the search engines’ attention.
      5. Design: As your creative team gets to work, get your SEO expert to have a glance at the design. You don’t want to take, say, headings and turn them into graphical text. The SEO can work with the designers and help them find the best balance. She may know a thing or two about image replacement and other tricks that can help create a beautiful, search-friendly site, too.
      6. Mockup: Sooo many companies ignore this. Have a truly great XHTML coder create templates for each unique page layout on your site. Then have your expert review for potential issues. This will make your developers’ lives much, much easier, because they won’t have to become HTML producers.
      7. Development: Make sure the SEO team has access to the site-in-progress. They’ll watch for alarm bells like uneditable title tags, straying from the mockup or hacked-up code.
      8. Pre-launch: The SEO expert can use whatever tools they have to ‘crawl’ your site, checking for busted links, search engine roadblocks, etc..
      9. Pre-launch, 2: The expert will give you a set of 301 redirects to set up, so that critical link authority isn’t lost.
      10. Launch: The SEO expert will join you in biting collective fingernails.
      11. Post launch: Now the expert will start working on the stuff most people consider ‘search engine optimization’ – link building, tracking metrics, content optimization, strategy, etc..

      Hope this helps.

What Is Search Engine Optimization? Hi

What is seo. how built my website seo in google yahoo search engine. my keywords is vasth

    • Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s “natural,” or un-paid, search results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic searchnews search and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic.
