Creating a professional web design for your site will help you develop a strong online presence and convey a positive image for your brand. You should use the following article to learn more about web design and how you can create a quality website.

Flexibility

Do not create a design that is too complex or out of the ordinary. Take the time to browse through a few popular websites to get a better idea of current web design trends. If you find that a site is not easy to navigate, do your best to avoid making the same mistakes. Try creating a design that corresponds to trends used by other webmasters but keep in mind that your site should stand out, for instance thanks to an original color pattern.

Global Reach

Create a web design that is similar to the designs used on the packaging of your products or on your printed ads. If you already have a logo and some colors for your brand, make sure these elements are well-integrated in your design. Keep in mind that your web design is an important aspect of your branding strategy. Your visitors should be able to recognize your brand right away. Consider updating the promotional material you use if you create a new design for your website.

Globe Web

Your design should allow visitors to easily find your important content. Divide your pages in different boxes, for instance by keeping your articles in the center of your Web Designpage and placing a detailed menu on one side. You could create more boxes, such as a banner to draw attention to your latest product or an element that displays your latest social media updates. Do not hesitate to add or remove elements from your pages but make sure each page looks similar and features the same elements.

New Tools

Use features that will improve the navigability of your site. A detailed menu is needed to draw attention to your main pages. Avoid using an image for your background or header to make your content easier to read. You should also add a search bar toward the top of your page so visitors can simply look up a keyword. Place individual links toward the top of your pages and make sure they are visible. Do not hesitate to make changes to the structure of your pages as you add more content to your site.

Own Web Design

Test your pages with the W3C website before launching your site. The W3C website will help you fix your mistakes and avoid unnecessary HTML tags. Go over your pages carefully and try creating a simple HTML code.Place your design elements on a CSS sheet rather than making your HTML pages too busy. Look at your site under different resolutions and with different web browsers to make sure it is properly displayed and can be loaded quickly.

Personal Websites

Developing a web design by yourself is a lot of work but the results are worth your time and efforts. If you cannot create a professional web design by yourself, consider hiring a professional or using a quality site-building tool.

What Is The Best Way To Learn Web Design? I am really interested in web design and have made several basic pages on my own. I want to reach the next level and try to get closer to becoming a professional web developer. Are there any options other than enrolling in full-time classes? I wouldn’t mind taking online classes if any good ones are available.

    • I highly recommend this book for learning how to build websites.

      http://www.amazon.com/Head-First-HTML-CSS-XHTML/dp/059610197X

It teaches you the right way to build websites (using HTML and CSS), but also does not bore you. It features a sense of humor and entertainment value, and purposeful repetition to help you learn.

I think a normal person can read this in one weekend, and that’s just about the best way to learn how to build websites.

Most Common Professional Web Design Programs? Right now I am using:

    -Dreamweaver
    -Flash
    -Illustrator
    -Fireworks
    -Photoshop

What about Flex, ColdFusion, or Visual Studio?

Oh and about Visual Studio what does it mean by applications for web sites-like gadgets?
Just want to learn the right programs before I get out of High School. (2 more years Woot!)
I probably should have re-worded the question to something that includes web developement. Thanks for your answer

    • Dreamweaver is the standard for Web Design.

Visual Studio is a web Development tool, not a design tool. The difference is pretty crucial. Designers make it pretty, developers make it work.

Flex and Coldfusion are along the same lines, although together they handle Flash Applications, and could be thought of as both design and development…but frankly, if you are using Flash as a design tool, you are asking for trouble (although that might just be me being old-fashioned).

Applications for websites are exactly that…they are programmed, interactive applications run from a browser. Heck, Yahoo Answers is a web application.

Is This A Good Website-http://mbanksphotography.webs.com/? I made this website just and i was hoping for a second view on my website apart from the obvious part of having no photos yet (long story short i’m not on my photography laptop!)

    http://mbanksphotography.webs.com/ enjoy

    • I’m looking at this from a web design point of view:

From looking at your code that looks like was made through automated system. Current trend is optimising web for higher resolution screens, now that more and more people have got monitors capable of far greater than 1024×768. So you need to look at the potential development options open to you. I strongly recommend being literate in some HTML (which is dead simple) if you don’t know it yet. Something like Dreamweaver (even the Macromedia MX version) is perfectly good for HTML web design. You would then be no longer chained to whatever the company wishes you to do.

The other issue is that I’m concerned by the visual design of the website. I feel that it’s somewhat too complex and loud. I personally favour the Bauhaus ideal, and believe that the aesthetics need not be limited to the realms of physical design, and indeed Bauhaus does incorporate graphic work. Remember you’re demonstrating your photography, the website should be like a good waiter, subtle and unnoticeable.

Think about the ergonomics about it, thing about what you want to communicate to the viewer, and then go about realising that.

Now I shall look at it from a photographic point of view:
Personally I don’t particularly care what camera you have and how many megapixels it’s got. It really doesn’t change my opinion of a photographers work, because as long as his work is of quality and justifiable meaning is where the value lies.

Freelance Web Design? How hard is it to make it as a free lance web designer?
i am going to school for ecommerce and this is what i wish to do when i graduate. for awhile i plan on using this as a second job untill it takes off

    • You’d better know javascript, mysql and php well. Most people who are paying to have a website designed for them require a knowledge of these languages.

If you’ve ever entered a contest for anything, you’ll know that it there are a lot of people out there competing in the same contests you are.

Freelancing is the same as entering a contest.. there are a lot of people trying to to get the same job that you are.

Competition are huge for all areas of freelancing.

You’ll find out, or at least you should keep in mind now, that writing articles is the key to making money through self employment.

I can design websites all day and make them look amazing. I can also use photoshop to make my website look very high definition.

I can do this all day but it won’t get me anywhere unless I am better than the best or offer a much lower fee than other web designers.

Web designing is too much work to get paid chump change.

If I were you, I would take the route I took and work on the design of your own website.
Start writing articles on something you love to think about, anything in the world.

If you don’t like writing, try to get used to it.

Keep writing articles until you have enough content for people to accidentally stumble upon your website via search engines.

Include adsense on your website and sign up to affiliate programs like clickbank.com and cj.com

Competing in the search engines may as well be just as hard as competing for someone to buy your web designs.

So you should know that you probably won’t make any money for a good year or 2, maybe longer.

      It’s very hard.

I started out making nothing. Then I made a few bucks here and there, and i’m still not at the top but i’m slowly making more and more money.. which is close to nothing still but I can see the slow increase.

I now get a low, but constant traffic without advertising my website to anyone.. i’ve never advertised my website to anyone.

I own 2 websites currently and I keep them to myself, so any traffic I get is coming from natural searches on google etc.

I hope to create enough content to eventually look like a very professional and legit website, to only then begin advertising my work to the world.

If I can gain enough traffic to my site via content, then I can THEN advertise my web design expertise.

You should do the same, it will someday give you a wider audience.

I know this because i’m self employed in other fields and can make a few hundred bucks every other day without a job.

I only started doing this a little over a year ago, but it took a lot of thought and writing down on paper since I was a kid to finally pull some ideas together.

My first self employed income brought in nothing, and now I can manage quite a good amount of money without an employer.

I look forward to my website bringing in this same success plus more.

I know this is more than what your question asked but I only hope to help so that you don’t have to feel as stressed as I have felt in learning everything I have had to learn on my own.

Long story short, work for yourself and THEN work for others.

What Is The Web 2,0 And Who ? Web 2,0

    • The term “Web 2.0″ describes the changing trends in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aim to enhance creativity, communications, secure information sharing, collaboration and functionality of the web. Web 2.0 concepts have led to the development and evolution of web culture communities and hosted services, such as social-networking sites, video sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies. The term became notable after the first O’Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004.[1][2] Although the term suggests a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to any technical specifications, but rather to changes in the ways software developers and end-users utilize the Web. According to Tim O’Reilly:
" Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the Internet as a platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform. "

Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web, has questioned whether one can use the term in any meaningful way, since many of the technological components of Web 2.0 have existed since the early days of the Web.

Why Java Scripting Is Better Than Other Scripting For Web Design?

    • The primary use of JavaScript is to write functions that are embedded in or included from HTML pages and interact with the Document Object Model (DOM) of the page. Some simple examples of this usage are:

      * Opening or popping up a new window with programmatic control over the size, position, and attributes of the new window (i.e. whether the menus, toolbars, etc. are visible).
      * Validation of web form input values to make sure that they will be accepted before they are submitted to the server.
      * Changing images as the mouse cursor moves over them: This effect is often used to draw the user’s attention to important links displayed as graphical elements.

Because JavaScript code can run locally in a user’s browser (rather than on a remote server) it can respond to user actions quickly, making an application feel more responsive. Furthermore, JavaScript code can detect user actions which HTML alone cannot, such as individual keystrokes. Applications such as Gmail take advantage of this: much of the user-interface logic is written in JavaScript, and JavaScript dispatches requests for information (such as the content of an e-mail message) to the server. The wider trend of Ajax programming similarly exploits this strength.

A JavaScript engine (also known as JavaScript interpreter or JavaScript implementation) is an interpreter that interprets JavaScript source code and executes the script accordingly. The first ever JavaScript engine was created by Brendan Eich at Netscape Communications Corporation, for the Netscape Navigator web browser. The engine, code-named SpiderMonkey, is implemented in C. It has since been updated (in JavaScript 1.5) to conform to ECMA-262 Edition 3. The Rhino engine, created primarily by Norris Boyd (formerly of Netscape; now at Google) is a JavaScript implementation in Java. Rhino, like SpiderMonkey, is ECMA-262 Edition 3 compliant.

A web browser is by far the most common host environment for JavaScript. Web browsers typically use the public API to create “host objects” responsible for reflecting the DOM into JavaScript. The web server is another common application of the engine. A JavaScript webserver would expose host objects representing an HTTP request and response objects, which a JavaScript program could then manipulate to dynamically generate web pages.

Web, Graphic, Or Video Game Design? Which of these jobs is more in demand and more rewarding? Any other advice regaurding them? TY!

    • From Google trends, it does seem there is more demand for web design and graphic design. Game design is generally more niche but still with good demand too, just less than the above two. Also it will require more specialization.

As to more rewarding, it is upto you and best is to try your hand at all three atleast as a beginner to understand the differences. As a thumbrule, if you like creating websites, then go for Web design; if you like creating images or the print media in general go for graphic design and if you are more into gaming, then video game design might be more appealing.

Do Web Site Users And Vistors – (do You) Like Or Dislike The Latest Web Design Trends? Do you like the Flash and Moving images, large colorfull graphics, sound and guided tours that seem to be the craze? Is it helpful or not? Are there any of these sites you really hate, or really love?

    • It depends somewhat on the nature of the site and why I’m visiting. On a promotional site for a band or a movie, sound, Flash, elaborate graphic layout, etc. are fine, provided they’re actually entertaining. I do appreciate a prominently located volume control and an option to skip the Flash intro, though.

If I’m shopping or looking for information, I much prefer an uncluttered design with easy navigation. Google does a great job in this regard.
