Are you thinking about launching your own website? You should review the following article for some helpful web design tips.

Analyze This

If you are not comfortable enough with HTML or other languages to create your own website, explore different alternatives. You should consider creating a blog with a popular blogging platform such as WordPress. Choose a quality template and take the time to personalize it so your site looks unique. You could also subscribe to a quality web hosting plan that includes a site-building tool you can use to create a simple but professional website. Learn about HTML so you can eventually design your site yourself.

Copyright Information

Think about creating your website by yourself if you know enough about HTML. Organize the content of each page in different elements. You should have a header to describe the content of your page, a menu to draw attention to your other important pages, a text block for your article or content and a footer for your contact or copyright information. Place any other addiWeb Designtional element on the side of your content.

Learn how to use CSS so you can create a separate sheet for your design. Name all the elements on your HTML pages and try creating similar pages so the CSS sheet you create can easily apply to all your HTML pages. You can easily connect your CSS sheet to all your pages by adding an element to the header of your HTML pages. Using a CSS sheet is a good way to make sure all your pages look the same. Besides, you will not have to go over all your pages when you need to update your design.

Html Pages

Think about search engine optimization when creating your design. It is best to create a very simple design and make sure search engine spiders can easily interpret your content. Go over your HTML pages and look for unnecessary tags. Use your CSS sheet as much as possible to keep your HTML pages clean and simple. Avoid using images in your design since search engine spiders cannot analyze this content. Update your design if search engine optimization trends evolve.

Own Website

Test your design before launching your website. You should look at your pages under different resolutions and with different browsers. It is best not to define the size of your website in terms of pixels or your pages will not be properly displayed under certain resolution. Use a floating design and choose percentages if you want to determine the size of your elements or their position. Check your pages with the W3C website to make sure they do not contain any errors. If your visitors are likely to use tablets or mobile phones to see your site, make sure your pages can be displayed by these devices or create a mobile website.

Professional Website

Follow these web design strategies to create a quality professional website. Do not hesitate to hire a professional web designer if you do not know enough about web design to create your own site.

So I see a lot of talk on using spiders, robots, crawlers, on web pages, how do I go about putting it on my webpage for the search engine to recognize it and put it up on top? I have an e-commerce site and am looking to get more hits for what I sell when people search for the products. You can send me links to sites to visit, but please only those that actually explaing how to do it, not explaining what it is.

    • Spiders and crawlers are the search engines. To get them to crawl your site you simply need to add a sitemap and a robots.txt file to your main root directory. This allows the spiders to crawl your page. You can find many tips about search engines in the seo section to massivemarketers blog.

What Is Search Engine Optimization And Whats It Benefits ? How to do search engine optimization for a blog ?

    View Comment
    • Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the “natural” or un-paid (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic.

The acronym “SEOs” can refer to “search engine optimizers,” a term adopted by an industry of consultants who carry out optimization projects on behalf of clients, and by employees who perform SEO services in-house. Search engine optimizers may offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a part of a broader marketing campaign. Because effective SEO may require changes to the HTML source code of a site and site content, SEO tactics may be incorporated into website development and design. The term “search engine friendly” may be used to describe website designs, menus, content management systems, images, videos, shopping carts, and other elements that have been optimized for the purpose of search engine exposure.

Blogging software is really a simple Content Management System (CMS) that easily adds new pages and integrates them into your site’s navigational structure and linkage.

Blogs and blog posts are naturally search engine friendly because they are text-rich, link-rich, frequently-updated webpages that use stylesheets or CSS, and have very little extraneous HTML.

Optimizing a blog is very similar to optimizing a website, and optimizing a blog post similar to optimizing a web page.

But depending on the blogging service or software you use, the results may look somewhat different.

If you follow some simple rules for search engine optimization, your blog can rank much higher than static website pages in the search engine results pages.

Here are the most important rules to follow to get your posts listed for keywords of your choice.

      1. Use your primary keyword in your blog domain
      2. Use your primary key phrase in your blog header tags and the title of your posts
      3. Use your secondary keywords in the body of your post
      4. Use your keywords in the anchor text of links
      5. Make sure search engines can spider your blog easily
      6. Get backlinks from other blogs or websites

How To Deal Profitability With Search Engine Optimization Prices? Hello,

How to deal profitability with search engine optimization prices?

    View Comment
    • SEO prices can be costly, especially for small-medium sized businesses, simply due to the fact that it requires a lot of time and skill to effectively perform. If you are looking for a low-cost alternative, and wouldn’t mind putting in some time yourself to do the SEO, I would recommend a tool called LotusJump. I’ve been using them for the past couple of months and it’s really quite simple and affordable to do. I even found a promo page so sign up under so I’m quite happy with that I’ve been getting. Good luck to you!

Google Seo Spider Search Engine Optimization? I want to create dozens of blogs. I cant possibly update them all. How do I keep the search engine spiders coming back? Is there a way to keep the spiders coming back and is it legal?

    View Comment
    • Googlebot will continually revisit your site and crawl linked pages. You can help/improve this process by implementing the Google Sitemap, an XML file managed in your Webmaster toolset. Totally legal – it helps manage the process. It does not help your ranking, just getting crawled.

Learn about the sitemap (and protocol) here:

If you have a free Google Webmaster tools account, you can see when GGbot last visited your site and see where it tripped over your site while crawling (and what the roadblock is so that you can fix any site errors).
You can also see what has/has not been indexed.

How Does Internet Search Engine Work (Yahoo, Google)?

    View Comment
    • Search engines use very powerful or robust program codes which are called crawlers (or spiders), which crawl through the internet looking for new websites, if they find any, then they automatically catch the link to that site and include it in the storage directory. More powerful the crawler, better is the search engine.

What Exactly Is Search Engine Optimization?

    View Comment
    • Search Engine Optimization, or SEO for short, is a term which describes the process of taking advantage of all of the existing available resources in order to obtain a page one organic search result on search engines, without having to pay for it.

All web site owners want as many visitors as possible to enter their site. Research shows that fully 90% of all internet traffic is delivered through search engines. Therefore, in order to get a slice of this traffic you must adjust your web site (fine tune it) to the point that the search engines want to share your site on page one.

Think about it. When you go use a search engine and enter a word or phrase; do you navigate past the first page of results to find what you are looking for? Because most people don’t. That is exactly why everyone competes for page one search results.

And that’s exactly what search engine optimization does. Hopefully. If you’re good at it.

There are many tools that help with SEO. Here is one such tool that is free to download…

There are also many good newsletters and ezines out there that will guide you on how to perform SEO on your own, without hiring someone to do it for you. You can subscribe to one such newsletter here…

I hope this helps explain what SEO is. To find out more about all of the steps involved in the process, you should check out the two sites I just noted.

    Describe SEO (search Engine Optimization)?

    View Comment
    • SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization which helps to increase the number of visitors a website attracts through search engines. Therefore in order to achieve visitors to your website, proper search engine optimization is required. There are two categories of SEO such as
1)White Hat SEO - It refers to the use of natural SEO methods to achieve desired results. It is what is referred to as ethical SEO
2)Black Hat SEO - This type of SEO is also referred to as spamdexing. It uses methods that degrade the search results relevancy. This type of SEO is not for long term as search engines are incessant in looking for websites that integrated forbidden or unethical methods just to rank.

How Does Search Engine Works..? Please answer it in descriptive way..

    View Comment
    • Internet search engines are special sites that help people find information online. A search engine maintains a database of all websites or web pages it has indexed.

When someone uses a search term to do a search, the search engine will go through its database and pick the sites that it deems to be relevant to the search term used. It does not search the Web actually at this point. It merely presents to the searcher those sites that it already has in its database.

Search engines have software programs called “spiders” that search the Web continuously. These spiders crawl websites and web pages then identify them according to prominent words or keywords.

A new website crawled by spiders will be reported and recorded in a search engine’s database according to the category or keyword that it has been perceived to belong to. Spiders will keep coming back to the site to find any new information worth recording.

Websites that appear on the first pages of search results usually have high page rank. This ranking system is based on mysterious algorithms that vary among search engines. A website has to rank for a keyword or search term.

Websites with high page ranks are usually those perceived by search engines to be important sites or authority sites. This means they have many other relevant sites linking to them, ideally, through hyperlinks that use their keywords as anchor texts.

How The Yahoo Search Engine Works?

    View Comment
    • Search engines use automated software programs knows as spiders or bots to survey the Web and build their databases. Web documents are retrieved by these programs and analyzed. Data collected from each web page are then added to the search engine index. When you enter a query at a search engine site, your input is checked against the search engine’s index of all the web pages it has analyzed. The best urls are then returned to you as hits, ranked in order with the best results at the top.

How To Get Clients – Web & Graphic Design? Hi,

A while ago I started learning web design. I had to stop but about a month ago I got myself motivated to learn and now i’m pretty familiar with HMTL, CSS and I know the basics of javascript and php. I want to start designing websites for people to get some pocket money and I find it very fun. I don’t want to charge like $600, maybe $200 for a 5-6 page html and css site. Where can I find clients?

    View Comment
    • Hi Trevor,

I started a small business doing web design and search engine optimization. I am a couple years out of college and like you am trained in HTML/CSS/PHP. I would like to provide some tips for you as well as answer your initial question of how to find clients.

First of all I am happy you are looking to charge only $200 dollars for a website, but if you are really good at what you do you should be charging $600+. The economy is rough but a lot of people are looking to start their own business or highlight their skills online, and they do that by coming to you to for a great eye catching functional website! They will have no problem paying more than $200 dollars.

Now if you would consider yourself to still be learning HTML/CSS/PHP (most importantly what works and does not work in design) you might want to go a different route than hard coding all of your websites. Consider exploring a website like Theme Forest ( ) and purchasing a theme for your client and then manipulating it to suite your clients needs. You will find many great examples of both HTML/CSS hardcode themes and WordPress themes from $20 dollars there. This is a great place to learn more about the code, by seeing someone else’s work and changing it to your needs.

I would also suggest you work on a content management system like WordPress as previously mentioned. WordPress will not only save you time on development for larger sites, it will allow your clients to easily update their content on their website. To get high rankings in google regularly updated content (read: blog) is the way to go. Providing an easy way for your clients to do this, or for you to provide for your clients as a service is always a plus.

Now to answer your initial question, how to get clients. As a start up company we have two main avenues of lead generation. First and most importantly, we use Craigslist. The free advertising there produces many solid leads and quality clients. Make sure to write eye catching and convincing ads with links to your portfolio work. Secondly we rely on word of mouth, once you have a good client base and provide great service people will mention you to their friends. Also starting out, do not be afraid to cold call or visit door to door small businesses in your area!

Also create a great looking website for yourself that people will be impressed by. Web design is hard to rank for in google, but with some hard work people can find your website in Google alone. That is a whole other discussion itself.

My biggest advice is to be honest, there are a million web designers out their. Set yourself apart by providing a great honest service at an affordable price.

I hope you found this helpful, if you have any more questions feel free to contact me on my website.

      With Regards,

Freelance Web Design? I have been doing freelance web and graphic design for the past three years aside from my full time job. Most of my jobs have been found through word of mouth, businesses go to the college and, when I attended there, I was notified when a business needed a website and I would complete the task.

Now I have graduated, have my Graphic Design degree and Web design and authoring certificate, and my goal is to move into freelance work full time. I have an online portfolio website.

How can I achieve this? What are good websites where businesses can go to post jobs for freelance designers? How else can I get my name out there?

Do Search Engine Crawlers (aka Spiders) Read Text That Has Been Commented Out In HTML?

    View Comment
    • Text within comment tags is ignored by browsers and search engine spiders.

You can check this for yourself by inserting a unique sentence on a page as a comment, then when the page has been indexed search for the sentence in quotes like this “unique sentence here”.

You will not find it and it is not difficult to understand why the search engines ignore it.

What Does It Mean To Allow Search Engines To Index Your Blog? Just wondering (: but i need to know.

    View Comment
    • The search engines like yahoo and google have a spider which reads the files on servers which are “Published” for public view. in the meta setting of the web page header there is a statement to allow indexing which means the blog will be sent to the search results page when someone searches for a keyword which might pull up your blog page.
if its not allowed the search engine will ignore your blog and not list it.

The assign an index to the cashed files they have for faster results for the person doing a key word search .

Has to do with Search engine optimization SEO.

This statement is deprecated in that some Of the major search engines are ignoring this statement and actually reading the page itself to determine what information it has.

Do Search Engines Really Search And Show Everything On The Web? I have a feeling we dont see everything that’s there. If we did we’d have many more results. I’ve searched accurately in the past for things i knew were there and they didnt come up anywhere in the search. Also I find you dont ever receive the thousands or millions of results quoted. You can only go about 50 results pages max, even when you havent seen all the results. Is there any way around this so we can truly explore the depths of the web?.

    View Comment
    • No.

All search engines trawl the web using spiders or robots to gather their info. Any webmaster can include on their site a list of places (on their site) where they don’t want the robot/spider to look. So a webmaster could ensure NONE of their site gets indexed by search engines.

Additiionally if web pages are created with some multimedia packages such as Flash, search engines aren’t able to index the contents of these.

What Is Search Engine Optimisation? What is search engine optimisation?

    View Comment
    • Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (“organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it “ranks”, the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As a marketing strategy for increasing a site’s relevance, SEO considers how search algorithms work and what people search for. SEO efforts may involve a site’s coding, presentation, and structure, as well as fixing problems that could prevent search engine indexing programs from fully spidering a site. Other, more noticeable efforts may include adding unique content to a site, ensuring that content is easily indexed by search engine robots, and making the site more appealing to users. Another class of techniques, known as “Black Hat” SEO or spamdexing, use methods such as link farms and keyword stuffing that tend to harm search engine user experience. Search engines look for sites that employ these techniques and may remove their listings.

    • The newest web authring standards are valid XHTML 1.1 and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). It is possible to creating very clean and appealing websites in CSS without relying on graphics, such as border styles, gradients, rounded corners, etc…

As far as the coding goes, your websites shoud be tableless design layouts with all formatting inside an external CSS file. Take a look at these websites for some ideas and current trends.

If you need a good tableless design layout, take a look at the source code of my website, I don’t have a lot of graphics, its clean and it validates as Valid XHTML 1.1 and Valid CSS.
