What Is The Single Best Strategy For Search Engine Optimization? I”m talking about trying to rank for really general terms that are highly competitive… are link directories worth it?

    • For really general terms, I’m going to say it’s probably your linking strategy.

I’ll give you a golden secret here, but this’ll help you considerably if you take the time & effort to implement it.

Find out who your top competitors are and analyze them. Their on-page optimization efforts, and their linking strategies.

      Go to:

      http://www.backlinkwatch.com/

And type in the URL of the pages of the top 5 or top 10 and look into your competition’s inbound links – where they’re located on the page, the topical relevance of the site that is linking to your competition and the anchor text used to link to your competition. You can determine if they’re paid links (or somehow incentivized, not just cash money) or if they’re natural.

Now, to break this down and understand their linking strategies, you’ll have to have a good understanding of link building & SEO yourself, but it’s a good way to help you determine a linking strategy that will likely help you achieve your goals if you’ll follow through with it.

This doesn’t work in all cases, and it’s not a perfect plan – but it gives you some very valuable information on your competition & what they’re doing regarding their link building strategies.

If you need any help, I do offer competition research services – it’s not really cheap, but what I do is listed here (albeit in a condensed format).

Is Submitting To Directories Good For Search Engine Ranking? Hi there,

I have been submitting my website to directories, search engines, etc and have seen my link popularity inch up to 416 which I know still isn’t good, but can you give me an idea of how many links I need before I get some sort of web presence? Also, how important is submitting to relevent directories? Thank you !

    • Submitting to relevant directories is very important for SEO. Make sure you are always linking in the exact same way (i.e. http://www.yoursite.com and http://yoursite.com) If your linking is inconsistent you may end up splitting your link juice and therfore your page rank.

Make sure that whenever possible your link’s anchor text is a search where you’d like to see yourself in the search engines. Do a little research with the google keyword tool and find a search with some traffic.

If you are not showing up on any searches right now either you are in an extremely competitive market or googlebot is probably having trouble with your site due to title or meta tag issues.

Can Any Body Tell Search Engine Optimization? Can any body tell search Engine Optimization?

    • Search engine optimization (SEO also search optimization) is the process of editing and organizing the content on a webpage or across a website to increase its potential relevance to specific keywords on specific search engines and importantly ensuring that external links to the site are correctly titled and in abundance. This is done with the aim of achieving a higher organic search listing and thus increasing the volume of targeted traffic from search engines.

SEO is one of the key Web Marketing activities and can target different kinds of searches, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.

SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Sometimes a site’s structure (the relationships between its content) must be altered too. Because of this it is, from a client’s perspective, always better to incorporate Search Engine Optimization when a website is being developed than to try and retroactively apply it.

Learning About Search Engines? I’m trying to make or find a search engine/search bar that gets results only from your own website.

    • I’m familiar with how to create as custom search engine within Google, but not Yahoo. However if I understand what your trying to accomplish then the creation of a custom search engine may not be necessary. If I understand you correctly your trying to perform a search that effectively only searches one site. This can be accomplished from using whats referred to as a search operator.

For this example I’ll use the term Tylenol and the site webmd.com.

Go to Yahoo.com and in the search engine you’d type the following: site:webmd.com Tylenol

The results displayed will be limited to references of the word Tylenol (not case sensitive) within the webmd.com website only.

So, if your looking to search your own site for a particular term the search would look something like this:

      site:yourwebsite.com term

If you want to search your site for a connected phrase rather than a singular term then the search would look something like this:

      site:yourwebsite.com +term-term

If you’d like to search your site for two or more terms then your search would look something like this:

      site:yourwebsite.com +term +term

Note that the www is not necessary for this type of search although you’ll get similar results if you choose to use the www prefix in your search.

Some search engines don’t support the use of search operators, but most larger engine do, including Yahoo and Google.

There are tons of useful search operators that you can use. Here is one article and one video that describes search operators in more detail.

Do You Think Search Engines Are Useful? I don’t think any search engine is useful except google. Other search engines like yahoo can’t search everything

    • All search engine are pretty useful. Sometimes stuff that you can’t find on google can show up on yahoo. Though I rarely use other search engines beside google since I always find what I’m looking for when searching with it.

And the highest source of traffic in the internet comes from search engines.

Sumbit Your Site To A Search Engine!? How to sumbit my site/ store to a search engine? How Often should i sumbit it? And about how long does it take to be on the search engine!? Please serious answers please!!

    • Different search engines have functionalities that would allow users to submit sites for free. How it usually works is, you would need to browse to the category in which you want your site to appear. There will be a submission link somewhere on that page to let you submit your site. It usually takes a week or two for your site to appear on the search engine though. Once it is submitted, you don’t have to submit again. However, what most search engines do is, they would cache your web page. If you don’t want the search engine to cache your page, you would need to do something on your end to not allow that to happen.

What Is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)? I want to Know about Search Engine Optimization.

    • Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s search results. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content and HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic.

How Do Search Engine Work? Well i tried searching same keywords at different search engine sites
    why always not exactly same?
why for example in this website
    http://www.discuss-bb.org/general/effective-seo-discussbb-style/
i searched this paragraph in google and yahoo…
Before you jump into a car, you need to know where you???re going. In SEO, you need to know what keywords you are going to optimize for before you start optimizing. Spending a few hours researching keywords can make all the difference in the world.
…but the site http://www.discuss-bb.org doesn’t appear at the first page of either site

    • Search engines only do just index what they got from spiders.the spiders or robots are objects that gather information from various websites so it might be depend on engine to engine how they gather information(to process) then they process that information and convert to data(processed information)
and then store that data in their servers as indexes so whenever the used search a keyword from their site that keywords point out to index that stored on the server and return the data to user. so in that context data is the links or image or video URLS.
